What's up everyone? We're here in the trendy area of Jim Zajay here in Hong Kong
and I found a pretty interesting alleyway. A lot of people are coming down here
and there's a lot of quick bites down here. This area as I found out is a pretty big tourist area
and it's known for a lot of Korean food and Japanese. We've got some Thai food here at
Manay Thai food. Very small counter space and then over here you can get egg waffles,
shumai, meat on a stick and more. There is no seating here at all.
Indonesian noodles and then next door you have some more options.
Let's see how Hong Kong does these egg
cakes. I would call them egg cakes. I last had them in New York City Chinatown.
They have some really strange things here too like octopus legs on a stick.
Now this is 22 Hong Kong dollars. That I would say is about two dollars and change
in U.S. Yep two dollars and 82 cents U.S. and the shumai I'm getting five so that's 11 Hong Kong.
That's $1.41. Let's take a while to heat up.
Oh wow well I didn't tell them how many I'm getting I guess uh a little bit yeah
yeah why not we'll go for the 10 shumai which is 20 Hong Kong. Yes all right let's try this.
All right everyone eating Hong Kong street food for the first time. We're gonna check out this
shumai. They asked if I wanted spicy or not. I've never had a spicy shumai. You know it's definitely
not a shumai that I've had before. It's very bouncy in its texture. The outside is kind of thin.
The spice level is not that good and yeah pretty satisfying the shumai. It's not like the dim sum
shumai where it's like nice and plump but it's really good and has the consistency of like a
marshmallow. All right Hong Kong egg waffles. These I had in New York City but first time
trying them in Hong Kong. They're much more common here in Hong Kong compared to New York
City. In New York City I think there's only like one or two carts that make these but look at this
thing. It is hefty and a good size of egg cake. This is how to peel them out like that and pop
them in your mouth. Oh this is really good. Quite satisfying and really here's my cravings for this.
I when I was a kid and I always passed by the egg cake cart I would always try to get one but
these are so much better than what I remembered when I had them in New York. These are crunchy
and filled with a lot of egg goodness. Really good. All this for 41 Hong Kong dollars.
I think a little under five six dollars for all this. Yeah you can't just have one you gotta
have a whole bunch more. These might be the best egg cakes I've had Hong Kong style egg cakes.
They're the ones I remember in New York. They're kind of soft and more mushy but these
they got substance to them. Don't go away because I'm gonna get some more food.
Now we're gonna go over to hashtag d here. I saw there was a lineup earlier for their egg tarts.
Those look absolutely amazing. I might get the matcha version.
All right hashtag v. This is a famous place here in Tsim Sha Tsui and we got here a pistachio egg
tart. This is street food to the max. Looks like there's even a bit of burnt brown sugar on it or
maybe caramel. And I love how they shape it in the design of a flower. Looks like a lotus. It's
definitely an interesting looking crust too. It's kind of thin and not as flaky as other
Don Tots that I've had. Let's see if the hype is real for this place.
You know this is a very very unique Don Tot. The pistachio and I could see why
people line up for this thing. I mean wasn't cheap. This was 32 Hong Kong dollars which uh
let me see how much that costs in the U.S. $4.10 for this Don Tot and it's not hot.
They have their fresh egg tarts made at 11 a.m. Right now it's like eight o'clock at night so
this has been sitting out for a while. But this is still pretty dang good. Nice pistachio flavor.
Love the pistachio nuts on it and it is very satisfying. Wow truly great egg tart.
I would dare say it's not worth the price. Four dollars for this egg tart. You can get
a bunch of other egg tarts for two dollars and be much more worth your value than this. But
still great street food here in Hong Kong tonight. That'll do it for this wrap up of a food review
Hope you enjoyed it. Hit that like button. I'll see you next time. Bye bye.
