Look at this drop, wow.
Somewhere in Switzerland, there is a hike known for being one of the most dangerous
in the world.
Built over 20 years ago, it basically consists of crazy long ladders, lots of sketchy steps
and some of the most insane features I've ever seen on a hike.
So naturally, after hearing about this, I felt like the only reasonable thing I could
do was to climb it all alone.
So this is that story.
The day started pretty early.
I had been waiting all week for the weather to clear up, so I could not wait to get going.
And even though things look pretty easy, here's what the hike actually looks like.
It is divided into three stages, each one more difficult than the last, meaning the
higher you go, the harder it becomes, which makes me slightly nervous for stage three.
So with that said, wish me luck.
There's the campsite, but I'm already so tired and it hasn't even started.
Look at that mountain.
I should have taken the cable car.
Look, the cable car is there.
Oh, why?
The first stage was mostly a regular hike, lots of steps and a good amount of elevation
gain, but nothing too difficult.
To be honest, looking back, I should have taken that cable car to save some energy for
later.
But anyway, after two hours, I made it to the beginning of the actual climb.
Climb up the fixed route route at your own risk.
Nice.
I hope I'm ready for this.
I think this is probably a sign for me to put my harness, so let's do it.
I'm a unicorn.
We should be safe with this.
Here we go.
I'm so excited about this.
For some reason, I'm not that scared.
There is the trail.
Nobody.
Am I the only one crazy enough to do this?
Okay, I think this is where the cables start, so I feel safer now.
Let's go.
Okay, slowly.
Slowly.
The clouds are coming.
This is definitely sketchy.
Look at that.
It's a thin metal rod just poking out of the mountain.
Look at this.
This one came off from there.
Not now.
It was already like this, but that's not good.
This is crazy.
What am I doing here?
My grandma is going to freak out when she watches this video.
That's for sure.
I'm not going to lie.
That part was very sketchy.
I couldn't really film it because I was just holding.
I can't even talk.
Yes, please.
So, I want to take this little snack break to tell you a little story.
The other day, I got this email from YouTube asking me to review my password.
And there was this link for me to click on.
Just to be clear, everything was super normal, not suspicious at all.
So, I was about to click on the link when I got this message from NordVPN
telling me that that link was actually not safe.
It was a scam and they were pretty much just trying to steal my password.
Which, as you can imagine, would be pretty bad.
So, that's why I'm partnering with NordVPN to give you the same kind of protection.
There's a link down below, but I want to tell you a bit more about them.
A VPN allows you to connect to the internet in a more secure way
or to route your connection through a different country which has all kinds of benefits
like being able to watch media from other countries
or get discounts on things that are more expensive in the country you live in.
But most people use NordVPN as a threat protection tool.
The internet has become very sophisticated
and there's a lot of secret stuff happening when you're surfing the web.
And Nord helps make that more secure,
protecting you against stuff like malware and scams.
So, there's a link down below, it's NordVPN.com slash Bernardo.
When you click on the link, it helps support the channel,
but also it'll give you a nice big discount and four extra months off NordVPN
when you sign up for the two-year plan with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
So, go check them out, see if it can make your life easier
and I'll get back to climbing this mountain
because there is a lot to climb still.
Let's go!
The second stage is where things get interesting.
There are lots of ladders and the cliffs are just insane.
In case you're wondering how I'm filming all alone,
that's how.
One, two, three.
Oh, my legs are shaking a little bit.
Look at that.
Oh my God.
There are so many traps, look at this.
Oh, this is probably the craziest day of my life.
Here we go.
This is definitely easier than climbing on the rocks.
Whoa, my heart.
I made it to the Switzerland flag.
Oh, so good.
I'm so tired.
I'm really enjoying this, but it's scary.
And it's a bit sketchy at times.
Honestly, don't do this if you have no experience with this kind of climbing.
That's not a good idea.
The third and last stage is by far the most difficult.
Your body's tired, the climb is very technical,
and the only way out is to get to the top of the mountain,
which makes it very risky.
I'm tired just by looking at this wall.
Oh, my God.
I put my gloves on.
This was too hard for my hands.
There are so many rods missing,
so you're pretty much climbing on the rock.
I'm definitely not used to that,
but now I have to keep going,
because going down is pretty much impossible.
So, up we go.
I don't know if you can tell,
but I'm genuinely scared.
I'm just trying to really focus on this,
because there's nobody here.
Nobody's going to come and save me.
So, I need to focus and just keep going.
I can do this.
Just one, two, three.
Step at a time.
Okay, this is better.
You probably cannot tell how high this is on camera.
It's insane.
I'm so tired.
I just found this ledge,
and I'm sitting down for a little bit,
because I really need to recover,
especially my arms.
They're not used to this kind of exercise.
And the annoying thing is that there's no way out
before I get to the end.
So, I really need to get to the end,
and it's already 5 p.m.
The sun sets in three hours.
Hopefully, it doesn't take me that long to get there.
The views are insane.
I cannot believe where I'm standing right now.
I'm trying to enjoy it,
but this is not fun anymore.
This is just dangerous and difficult.
Now, there's this bridge to the other side,
which basically consists of this thin metal rope.
What am I doing?
Look at that.
Oh, my God, this is so high.
Crazy transition.
Okay, okay, okay.
My God, it's a giant cave.
Wow.
That's cool.
But I cannot look down.
I'm not looking down.
Okay.
Slowly, slowly.
Oh, great.
I just cannot wait to get to that ladder.
Everything is wet.
There's a waterfall, so the rock is super slippery.
This makes no sense.
I wish I could just, like, snap my fingers,
and I would be gone from here.
Things really took a turn here.
I was insanely tired, and my body was slowly giving up.
My arms were not able to hold me anymore.
My muscles were screaming.
And the worst part was that I was all alone.
I had no one to talk to, no one to share my thoughts with,
no one to save me.
I was scared.
But somehow, I kept moving.
I honestly have no idea how my body was still responding after all that climbing,
but the truth is, I was not going to let myself fail.
That was not part of the plan.
And so, I can't recall exactly what happened,
but after 12 hours on that mountain,
I was finally able to detach myself from those cables.
And I cannot describe how it felt.
I think I made it.
I made it. I made it.
Oh my god.
Unfortunately, I celebrated a bit too soon.
I thought I was done, but I'm not done.
That's the end. That cross.
I'm so exhausted.
And the sun is just setting.
It's going to get dark in no time.
It's really going to get dark in no time.
I'm just going to do it. I'm not going to film it.
This is too dangerous.
To this day, I still can't fully understand how I finished this climb.
I'm sure the guardians of that mountain were looking after me,
in which case, I feel incredibly grateful to them.
But if there's something I take with me,
it's that sometimes there are risks not worth taking.
And this was definitely one of them.
I was so thirsty.
So good.
Thank you.
