Harvesting Ginger

[Music] good day welcome to White CER my name's Steve and today we're going to be looking at harvesting Ginger so here I am at that small Ginger plot that I planted about 9 months ago details of that planting you can see on another video on this same YouTube channel but you'll notice now about 9 months later that the plants themselves are starting to die back this in itself is an indication that this particular crop is ready to harvest so let's go ahead and do that [Music] so I've now removed all the ginger plants from this small little plot and typical of what I've been able to remove is this and you can see here the the ginger plant itself which has started dying back and you can see this wonderful ryome um that has has been produced at the base of this particular plant what I'll now do with this uh New Harvest is I'll go through it and I will select a few good growing buds from the Harvest that I've just collected those growing buds I'll then put into the soil and they will provide my uh crop for next year however before I do that we've got to remember that Ginger is a crop that is a very heavy feeder it likes moist soil it it needs a a good solid uh source of nutrient from the soil so in order to ensure that it has that water holding ability as well as provide the nutrients that the ginger crop requires I'm going to get some good uh Lush compost that I'm now going to add to this soil dig it in and then in another week or so I will then plant out next year's crop once you've harvested your Ginger you can then either freeze it or you can just simply store it in a nice dry area it will last for quite some time but don't forget to make sure that you select some good growing buds that you can put back back into the ground for next year's Harvest I hope you found this video useful I hope there's been some information that will help you grow ginger in your backyard or perhaps in pots can I encourage you to participate in the online discussion in YouTube or visit our website I cultivate Donnet thanks for watching [Music]
