Tastes good
Morning folks
finally
cattle work
Weaning we're starting today. Love bringing them calves home getting those cows to stocks dad's on his way here
He's got 15 calves in a trailer
I just stopped at Storla station and got a couple stress lick tubs threw them in there hooked on to the portable corral
We're gonna bring 35 calves home from a pasture just a couple miles east of here
So we kind of gotta keep moving when I starts getting around five o'clock and it's almost pitch black out
With our old setup it said right on there one man
Ten minutes no lifting
It was more like two man about ten minutes
One of them probably got a hernia with this thing
It's more like that one man ten minutes. No lifting. I wouldn't have even attempted it with our old corral, but this healer
It's uh, it's a Cadillac. I'd be surprised
I wouldn't believe you if you said there's something better than this one had another baby appointment this morning
Everything's healthy looking good
Doc did say
for weight the babies in about the
78th percentile a little bit big but then they got to the head. They said the head
It's in the 90 98 or 99th percentile. Meaning his head is bigger than
98 out of 100 babies
He's a big boy
There's our bigger pasture by home there's 35 pairs out here, it's gonna take two trips, but we're only three miles away from home
You're a little sluggish today if you think I'm not myself today guys I
Feel like I got a vice grip on my little toe and it also feels like the vice grip is inside my shoe
Clamp to my little toe. So I'm a little slow
I'm not so jovial and we'll get her done
Come on honey, you got to keep going. You've got to go you got to go missy
Oh
20 the first load, okay
It takes two guys to push them into the trailer
And one guy to keep them from coming out of the trailer
Pretty tough when you only got two guys
We got the first 20 loaded up and a four-wheeler and we'll come back for the next four wheeler in the last
15 calves
So once we get these last ones home
We're gonna run them through the shoot be giving them a five-way shot as a booster
We'll give them some stuff called therapies
We did that last year and we'll be weighing the bulls on the new Gallagher scale. We installed this summer
Get this connected to the shoot
So we'll be giving them a five-way
We gave them
five way and seven way in
September and we're giving them a booster today. We also have
Therapies we use this last year. That's supposed to reduce stress. They claim the calves will quit balling earlier
Ball for less amount of time
They have tons of studies on it when we run bulls through the shoot and if they have a low weight and we don't think
We want to sell it as a bull won't make the cut. We're gonna band it with our calicrate bander
Now one thing exciting that I want to mention to you right now
You know with people asking us what we use so often this summer with the help of some folks my wife
We have started a vet store online at sunny farms calm. We of course
have
Optimizer gel still on there. We shipped to US and Canada with that but new things on there on the website sunny farms calm
We do have therapies the the big bottle, which is the one liter and the 300 milliliter
We have the calicrate bander, of course and a bunch of other things a lot of things centered around calving
So I just ask you to check that out if you're in need of some stuff for weaning or especially calving
Go to sunny farms calm and see if it's worth your time
I just really appreciate y'all looking, you know watching the videos and maybe checking out our new online vet store
We got a heifer 418
Weighing 612
It's a good weight for a heifer
a
Little backstory here dad's making fun of me because I am bad with numbers and
953 just became 95 93
Caught it before it went away
Good boy
Excuse me get out of here Oh
Hey, come on, come on big fella, he's one of the top guys
Yep, hey nice-looking fella
So earlier today I was spreading some straw for bedding
But the big idea behind that since we've had a half inch of rain in the last about 70 days
We're hoping that keeps the dust down, but we got their pen pretty much ready and it looks nice. It's pretty good
We also have these windbreak panels set up, you know
They're gonna be looking for their mom's pacing a lot. And so we're hoping that they're walking along this fence
They run into
Windbreak panel the hang a left and then they run into a bale and hopefully they start eating
You want them to quit walking around you want them to just eat get a full belly
So we've got a couple of things set up like that. We also have a couple stress lick tubs grab those this morning
How's they work? That's a good question
Look it and it relieves the stress
That's what the scientists say
And then we have a big water tank up here for them in three or four days. We'll start giving them a
liquid sulfa, which is supposed to help against
Shipping fever and it's kind of an antibacterial. So we got a whole bunch of things trying to keep them healthy
So in the north feedlot we have about
40 ish pairs
From the two pastures close by they ran out of feed
So we've been feeding them in the bunks for the last few days and that's tomorrow's job
We'll get them up split them work the calves and then there's about 20 pairs over at my place the South Farm
So we'll split and work 60 calves and then we'll chase uncle Jeff's down the road and probably work his split his I would definitely
Appreciate if you checked out sunny farms comm and the new online vet store
Of course many of you have purchased the optimizer gel over the last few seasons
And so that's still there shipping to US and Canada and then the rest of the vet supplies
There's about 15 or so other items that will ship to the contiguous u.s. That's a new exciting frontier for sunny farms
Thanks for watching folks. Love to see you next time. Have a good one
Look at these guys. They're circumnavigating the windbreak panels. They're just headed straight across they outsmarted me
