All right, so we just got a phone call
From my neighbor who is a califormer. He's got cows. I don't say he's a califormer
But he's got a good many cows across the street. Y'all seen brooke go over there
And see his cows feed his cows or give them treats
uh, they got the three donkeys that she
likes to go over there and talk to and
Especially the ones that's her and mary carl named snow white when we first came over when we first moved here
and
But long story short
Uh, he called brooke
He is under the weather. He's not feeling well
And he said that he has a calf
That's in trouble. Um
The mama abandoned it
and apparently another
cow
or another mom
Took it under its wing and she I take that back. I'm, sorry. I messed that up the mother cow passed away
The original mama cow passed away and then another cow came in
And started taking care of it and now she's abandoning it
But he doesn't know how long all he knows is is the calf is not doing well at all
And so yeah, we're gonna go we're gonna go check it out. See if there's anything we can do
I don't know how bad the situation is
uh, but uh
Fix a load up the side by side
and go across street and see what um
Um, see what's going on
Okay, I see a cow down there
Oh
There's something over there where you see it black on the ground, okay
Where's the calf snow white
All right. So the little the little fellow's not doing well at all
Let's see here
That's probably better the other way bro, because did not turn around backwards
All right, baby, let me see we can get you home ready
You want to put him in the back i'm gonna call for that will it take you about a second to put him in the back
ready
Yeah, got it. I got it not hurting your arm. Is it i'm okay?
You got it don't try to slide him don't try to slide him i'm gonna go around okay and i'm gonna get in okay hold it
Okay
Then we ought to send out the vietnamese
All right, he's he's warm just go through this few boxes if you can remember how to get back out
Grab this
You got it
All right, so he is not doing good at all just not um
Yeah
So would you get me that um, what do you call it?
Okay
Okay pedia like first we got milk replacer
and
we got
some goat colostrum
We're gonna have to read about that
and
We're going to contact dr. D as well. Let's see
We can tell he's severely dehydrated
I got the drench guns. I got electrolytes in her. You may get them or she's bringing some
She has not he has not had diarrhea. Oh, yeah
He has not had diarrhea
Well, that's good
I you can tell he's dehydrated though
Did he say if she he had colostrum or not
That's true. That's true. So he's had colostrum
No diarrhea, okay
So can we go to the
Oborn and get the resorb or you know, it's for cows. I don't know if that's gonna help. Okay
i'm going to
Send dr. D a text and see if he can tell us some advice
over texting
Right here
Thank you, katherine
He made a couple of noises since he's been feel that is that too warm the heat's on me that feels pretty good
That's kind of he's gonna make somebody some grunting noises since he's been under the heat we can do it together
We're just gonna try to get him hydrated
Hold on. Let me get the flashlight
Look at you
Big man
Yeah
Hey, baby
It's just i'm just so weak. He's weak
Come on, big man
Come on
Here we go, he's swallowing oh
He smells horrible. That's not me. It's okay
It's probably me. Well
I smelled it sooner than we put him in. It's okay. He's swallowing. He is swallowing. He's thirsty poor baby
Yeah
His mama died his mama died and another mom had taken him up and then she left him for another calf
Baby, I wish this so wouldn't you think he got colostrum?
I don't know
All right, buddy
Come on, did dr. Lee say he's coming back?
He hasn't answered me yet, but right now he's just
He's down. Yeah, he's down. He's definitely but he's better than he was
Yeah
Better than you were but he ain't good
He ain't good
He's been breathing. Yeah
I can see his eyes moving one time. He got to breathing pretty hard when
When he started getting warmed up some but there you go swallowing. Yeah, there you go, baby
how many nights i've stayed awake with deer just
stimulating
Slept in the floor with them. Oh my goodness. It happens. That was the best one. Yes, it was
You
All right, so
we are loading up
about to
load up this fella
and take him to
Dr. D
And hopefully we can beat the rain. It's not a good day to be having
An animal problem. Oh, it's not at all and i'll just go on and tell you
It's not and he may not make it. He may not and if he doesn't make it
at least
At least he can go
peacefully
inside the barn
covered up by a heater
Instead of outside in the stormy weather and if he doesn't make it it's not because we didn't try right
It's not because mr. Butch didn't try right?
Um, and it's not because dr. D didn't try that's right
Hey, buddy
Okay, that's okay
Hey, buddy. Hey sweet boy. Don't try to get you fixed up buddy. This is the best i've seen
Yeah, yes, sir
All right, so we got him loaded and we're headed on out
Okay
All right, so we're leaving uh, dr. D's
and
Um, he's the baby calf is in bad shape as you guys know. Um
He did respond well to
The ivs he gave him three bags of ivs. He gave him antibiotics. He gave him steroids
sugar sugar
Um, so he's he's giving him everything he can
And basically it's a waiting game
And if he makes it through the night
And he looks like he has improved
Then tomorrow then dr. D's gonna give him some more fluids
Yes, we will bring him back in the morning if he has improved but he has to show us that
You know that this is working, right?
you know
Things are going for the good not for the bad, right?
Yeah, um, yeah, so
It's gonna be there's no way to know which way it's gonna go. No way to know. He is fighting
He's really really fighting
It's just that dr. D thinks he is septic
And that he's got some infection and don't think he got colostrum
so
A lot of negatives working against it is a lot of negatives working against him
But at this point colostrum would do him no good right he's um
We know he was born on tuesday. Yes, and today is saturday, right? So, you know
Not gonna help at this point milk replacement will help right he gets to the point where he can suckle
but he's not there he's not there and
If he is better tomorrow and he's holding his head up and showing signs of improvement
If he doesn't want to suckle with the milk replacer so just to get something on his stomach, yes
His gut is moving. We know that and he did urinate. Yeah, he did. So, uh, we know that his organs are working. Yep
Which to me was a really good sign
And he's trying to move now when we first brought him in there. He wasn't moving at all. But once he got about that
Second bag in he's trying to hold his head up. He was trying to move his legs
So, uh in his eyes got way brighter
Um, so he's definitely definitely improving that doesn't mean he's gonna make it through the night by all means
but he did respond well to the
The medical cocktail, I guess you could call it that. Dr. D gave him. So
So we're headed home. We're gonna get him back in the stall. We're gonna put the heat the heater on him and um
Pray and hope for the best in the morning
Well, y'all it is the it is the next morning, uh, we watched him throughout the night
Oh, y'all know we did have the the bad storms come through the area through the whole southeast
but um, he was inside by heater warm, but he did pass away this morning, so
um, you know, we hate to
We hate to make videos like this and you know, I almost
I almost
Didn't post this video. I didn't
Because you know, we're always about
Happy and making people smile and don't want to make anybody sad by all means
but then I thought you know, we we're
we're transparent we try to show you guys everything that happens on our farm and
um
you know, I have peace with myself that
He was inside the barn warm had a heater on him
and
You know that
He did go peacefully
and was not out in the weather or anything like that and that um that does put me at peace and
but um
anyways
uh, I do hate to to
to let you guys know that he did pass away and um
just um
There was a reason why we got the phone call
And that we were able to find him and help him and do everything. We did there were there was a reason and in
And and I know that is
That he was able to come in the barn where it was dry
warm had a heater on him and that that um
you know that he didn't stay out in that terrible weather last night and
And struggle through all that. So
Anyways, you know
Yeah, I hate I hate to make videos like this. I really do
but I just thought you guys
Should know what happened and you know, we're gonna continue
Continue to be a light in this world and try our best to to do what we do here on our farm
