Tibouchina Pruning Part 2

g'day welcome to i cultivate my name's steve and today we're going to be doing a quick follow-up video looking at this tippuccina here that we pruned approximately six to seven months ago now you remember when we looked at this particular tivocina plant some months ago it was in desperate need of a trim and i was very severe with that trimming i in fact took a chainsaw to it and cut down right down to the stump level of this particular tree now we're coming in close we'll have a quick look at where the new growth has emerged from so you can see in this shot here where the cut was that we did some months ago and the vigorous growth that has been stimulated by that cut around the margins of that original pruning you can also see down a little bit further here down towards the bottom that the heavy severe pruning has stimulated quite vigorous growth elsewhere on the plant as well so you can see that tibetanas and tippuccinos of multiple varieties as well are extremely resilient to a hard pruning in fact i would go as far as saying that they are more than resilient they actually enjoy it and benefit from having that hard pruning when necessary but now that i've given it that hard pruning and we have now got this new vigorous growth i'm going to just give it a light prune and this is something i'll do regularly in order to keep it to the size and the shape that we need in this particular location for that job i can just use some normal hedging shears so you can see this tibetan are now pruned down to roughly the size and shape that we would like to keep it permanently that of course is going to require a fair bit of regular maintenance but it will get some quite vigorous growth over the coming months and it will then start to produce those vibrant purple flowers that tippecanoes are well known for i'll show you an example of that in a moment so while this is a different variety of tivocina you can still see the type of outcome that i would expect from having given that other tibichina the pruning that we did you can see the profusion of new flower buds that have emerged on the relatively new growth and there is an enormous amount of flower actually emerging from that this one in fact is starting to get to the point where i feel inclined to give it a small trim again but that's a really hard decision to make when you see such profusion of buds that are going to emerge soon so anyway we'll give that some thought but this is the type of outcome as i mentioned before that you could expect from having pruned a tibicina in the way in which i just did so i hope you've enjoyed this video can i please ask you to go down to the thumbs up and give us a thumbs up subscribe to this channel and go to our website icultivate.net and become a member of the community thanks for watching [Music] you
