How's it going everybody? I'm Nikki Delventhal. This is my dog Camper Delventhal and we live in
this 2006 Toyota Prius. Today is episode two of our Camper Cares Giveback Project.
A little background. In August of 2020, I decided to start this YouTube channel and shortly after,
it became monetized, opening up all these possibilities. Around the same time is also
when I found Camper in the mountains and decided to take him into the Prius. You're perfect!
Which was amazing, but that's how Camper Cares was created. Camper Cares is a charity project
that I created paying for the medical and vet bills of animals, families, and fosters in need.
And it's fully funded by my YouTube channel and its external ad revenue and from all of your
generous donations. So honestly, just by watching this video, sharing, liking, and commenting,
you're helping fund an animal in need. So thank you for that. Stories today, but today's main story
is quite an unexpected one and a very wild 24 hours. So a few months back, I was checking my DMs,
which is very rare for me to check my direct messages, so that alone was like...
So Sam, who's now one of my really good friends, had reached out. He's originally from Brazil
and he was crossing the country, living out of his car. This was a dream he'd always had,
just like mine. He was on day two of his car living journey and he was connecting with one
of his friends in Houston, who was at a hotel. He was popping in to give him glasses and take
a shower and all of a sudden, a dog shows up out of nowhere. Sound familiar?
So knowing my involvement in animal rescue, that I was literally in the same situation,
he reached out to me for some guidance as he couldn't just leave the dog there. He wanted
to make sure that the dog was okay. And even if he wanted to leave, I don't think the dog
was going to let him.
So the first thing Sam did was feed her and check for ownership.
There was a collar, but no tags. So first thing was Sam prepped the car to bring the dog to a
24-hour veterinary service, where they could scan the dog and see if there were any microchips
or any sign of ownership.
Good news, or so we thought, there were owners. So the vet tried to call them, Sam tried to call
them, I tried to call them multiple times. It was three in the morning, so we still had some hope.
In the meantime, Sam was planning to go to California. So I just contacted every rescue,
every friend, anyone I knew in the area that could possibly help out. At this point, Sam is pulling
an all-nighter, and we're just waiting for everybody to wake up to see what the next steps
are going to be. So Sam drove to a local shelter. It was closed, and he was just going to wait till
it opened to see what his options were. Sam told me when he got there, he saw all the animals in
the windows and realized firsthand she wasn't going to have many chances there, and had this
really extreme emotional response thinking about leaving her there. The owner still hadn't answered,
and he just couldn't leave her there. He all of a sudden had this
kind of new attachment to the dog. One of the posts that I had posted on Facebook
had got a response from this wonderful human named Michelle. So I connected Sam and Michelle.
And together they gave her a bath, they also did some tick and flea prevention,
and just relaxed in the yard while we figured it out.
We were still obsessively calling these owners.
Please leave your message. Honestly, I don't know about you guys, but if you lost your dog,
I would be out at all hours looking for my dog. So we're concerned at this point.
And then Michelle had the idea. She has a local number, so maybe they would pick up for her.
Do you have a number to the owner? Oh, yes. I'll try it from my phone. Sure.
53. Okay, let's see if they answer. Hi, my name's Michelle. We have your dog, Shadow.
Did you guys lose a dog? We scanned her microchip.
Do you not, well, do you not want her? We can put her, we can give her away.
Okay, they don't want her. What did they tell you? She said give her away.
Sam felt immediately attached to previously Shadow, now Stormy.
You're a traveling dog now. Thank you, Michelle.
Knowing that Sam and now Stormy were just starting their car living journey,
and I know how tough it can be in the beginning, I offered to pay for all of the vet bills,
everything to really get them off their feet. Say hello to Nikki and Camper. Thank you, thank you,
thank you. Michelle, just such an amazing heart. She even went out and got them all the supplies
they would need. Sam is a really, really loving and smart human. He's had dogs in the past,
so he knew what was in store. And I really think the perfect person to find Stormy.
Good night, sweetheart. I was so touched by their story and how everything happened. A few months
later, I decided to meet up with them on the road. We had so much fun hiking around. Camper made a
new best friend. We had a Walmart parking lot party. It was just an amazing time. But that's
not all. Sam's moving back to Brazil, and guess who's going with him? The queen of the car.
He is, oh, hi, girl. They are going to be together forever. And that is, that's what makes me so
happy. You know, like, it worked out so well. So this was my favorite main story. Stormy, Sam,
thank you for being such an amazing human. And you're so lucky to have you as friends. So I hope
this inspires you guys to, if you see a dog on the road, don't just leave. We are going to have
to do a follow-up of their time in Brazil together, but that's for another episode. In the meantime,
let's go ahead and recap all the other animals, rescues, fosters that we were able to help this
month. This is Nemo from Buckeye Australian Cattle Dog Rescue in Ohio. Nemo was born deaf,
but also just like in the movie, with a lucky fin, as his leg did not develop properly. Although he
gets around and plays great, after evaluation, the vet determined that the best thing for Nemo
to not be in pain as he gets bigger and older was to have it removed. I'm happy to report he gets
around just fine, and he's a fabulous tripod. I fell in love with Nemo so much, I thought we should
go ahead and sponsor his siblings as well, who were also born deaf. By giving them special collars
to help them learn different commands, they have stolen our hearts. All the puppies currently have
pending adopters. This is Pearl. Pearl came to Wesley's Wish in Connecticut with her 11 puppies.
They couldn't imagine what she had been through prior, and likely would not have been able to
deliver her baby safely. She was abandoned and emaciated, shy, withdrawn, and scared,
but the puppies thrived, and with time she put on weight and began to trust and understand she
was safe and loved in her foster home. Although she did have some setbacks, as she tested positive
for heartworm. Right now she's under treatment, as she awaits her forever home. We also sent
treats, pads, foods, and supplies to these cuties in Houston, Texas at their foster home.
This is Sugar. Sugar was struck by a vehicle going 70 plus miles an hour in January outside
of Dallas. Initially the first vet said to put her down, because the leg was not repairable,
as she shattered both her hind legs. Refusing this fate, Ehrenregen Animal Sanctuary got another
opinion. I'm happy to report after a successful surgery and much physical therapy, not only is
was adopted and now has her forever home. We also helped a kind man in Florida,
who had a very unfortunate accident, putting him out of work temporarily. Worried for his many
animals he cared for on the ranch, we supplied them with food for the month. His story and the
amount of animals he has brought in and cared for is amazing. Thank you so much for watching,
but even more, thank you for helping support these animals and those of you with your generous
donations. We seriously couldn't do it without you guys. Just by liking, commenting, subscribing,
turning on notifications, and sharing with your friends, you are helping us help more animals. So
from the bottom of our hearts, we love you. Also, if you'd like to help support us, if you want all
these videos early access and during that time ad free, you can join our Patreon for as low as
one dollar a month. Have a great day. Camper and I love you all.
