We previously made a video on types of friends, and one of them was rare, and many of you loved it! However, not all friendships are healthy, and some can be downright harmful.
In this video, we’re breaking down six types of toxic friends you need to watch out for, especially #4, which can be the most dangerous. The goal of this video is to help you recognize these red flags so that you can help you set better boundaries and protect your peace.

Have you ever had a friendship that left you feeling drained,
or wondered if any of your friends are really as good for you as they seem?
Imagine your social circle as a garden, but every now and then a weed creeps in,
slowly draining the life out of everything around it.
The tricky part, some weeds disguise themselves as flowers,
and by the time you realize the damage, they've already taken root.
Luckily, psychology can help us spot the patterns before it's too late.
With that said, here are six types of toxic friends,
and which are the most dangerous, according to experts.
The Gossip
Ever had a friend who always seems to have the latest scoop on everyone?
It's fun at first, feeling like you're in the inner circle
and being privy to secrets no one else knows.
But then you start to wonder,
if they talk about everyone else, what are they saying about me?
That's the problem with the gossip.
They don't just share stories, they trade them.
Your personal life becomes their currency,
and before you know it, your secrets are making rounds.
This kind of toxic friend is hard to trust,
and a real friend protects your confidence, not uses it for entertainment.
The Flaky Friend
This kind of toxic friend cancels plans at the last minute,
leaves you waiting, and forgets to tell you they won't be coming.
Sound familiar?
That's the flaky friend for you.
They promise the world, but deliver little,
leaving you feeling unimportant and uncared for.
While their behavior might seem harmless,
over time it erodes trust
and can make you question your worth in the friendship.
The Underminer
Ever had a friend who's also your rival?
Or at least, they certainly act like it.
With the Underminer, everything's a competition.
You achieve something, they did it better.
You're struggling, they had it worse.
Instead of celebrating your success or empathizing with your feelings,
this so-called friend diminishes them.
Share a personal achievement and they'll respond with,
that's nice, but anyone can do that.
It's as if your victories cast a shadow over them,
and they can't stand not being in the spotlight.
Healthy friendships celebrate each other's wins,
but toxic ones turn everything into a scoreboard.
Over time, this constant negativity can chip away at your self-esteem and motivation.
The Master Manipulator
This is the friend you need to watch out for the most.
They're not just toxic, they're skilled at being toxic.
Unlike other toxic friends who might be flaky, competitive,
or emotionally draining without realizing it,
the Master Manipulator knows exactly what they're doing,
and does it with precision.
At first, they might seem incredibly charming, kind, and supportive.
They make you feel special,
like you finally found someone who truly understands you.
But over time, they start pulling invisible strings,
controlling you without you even realizing it.
They might use tactics like guilt tripping or gaslighting.
They might isolate you from other friends to make you more dependent on them,
creating drama.
I heard they were talking about you behind your back,
but don't worry, I'll always be here for you.
Or they could use kindness as a weapon too,
by doing something overly generous,
then using it as leverage later.
I did all this for you and this is how you repay me?
Or showering you with affection and compliments right after hurting you,
so you second-guess your emotions.
The Energy Vampire
Spending time with this friend feels like running a marathon.
You start off fine, maybe even excited,
but by the end, you're completely drained.
That's the effect of an Energy Vampire.
They don't just take up space in your life, they consume it.
Every conversation is a one-sided therapy session
where they unload their frustrations, insecurities, and crisis,
all without ever asking how you are.
At first, you listen because you care,
but slowly, it becomes clear.
This isn't an equal friendship.
To them, you're not a friend, but an emotional landfill.
They dump their negativity, feel lighter, and walk away,
while you're left carrying the weight.
A healthy friendship is a two-way street.
With an Energy Vampire, it's a dead end.
The Victim
Much like the Energy Vampire,
this type of toxic friend always has a problem,
and somehow, nothing is ever their fault.
At first, you feel bad for them, you want to help,
but after a while, you start to notice a pattern.
No matter what happens, they never take accountability.
They always have an excuse,
and they reject every solution or suggestion you try to give.
Because they don't actually want your help,
they just want your validation.
They thrive on sympathy.
The worse their life seems, the more attention they get.
If their struggles start to fade,
they'll find something else to complain about
to keep the sympathy flowing.
Over time, this dynamic turns you into their unpaid emotional caretaker.
And trust me, you don't owe anyone that job.
So, do any of these hit close to home?
Toxic friends don't always start that way.
Some change over time,
while others slowly reveal their true colors.
The key is recognizing when a friendship drains you more than it supports you.
So, be honest with yourself.
Is this friendship making your life better or worse?
If it's the latter, maybe it's time to start weeding that garden.
