In this conversation about the source of creation, a woman asks about the meaning of a passage from the Quran: ‘I was a hidden treasure and I loved to be known, so I created the world that I might be known.’

Rupert says: ‘What I think it means is that within consciousness, there is infinite treasure or potential which in consciousness’s experience of itself remains unmanifest. There is just the knowledge “I am” – no world or objective experience.

‘But at the same time, that “I am” contains all knowledge and experience. It’s as if consciousness is pregnant with infinite potential – and it has to be born. So, the birth of the universe is the means by which that which lies in potential in consciousness is made manifest.’
