Yamaguchi Barber Shop, if you didn't already know, is a 4th generation-traditional Japanese barbershop tucked away in the coastal town of Hayama 🌊 Easily reachable by train from Tokyo, it's a popular weekend destination known for its beaches, yachting, windsurfing, and now its Showa-era barbershop!

Yamaguchi Barber Shop originally opened in 1920, but for the last 20 years has been in its current location. Modeled in the Showa era (circa the 1920s - 1980s); natural stained wood, timeless vintage accessories such as the clock and desk calendar, and a vinyl collection that many music buffs would be so jealous of! 🕰️

Slip off your shoes when entering, the interior beckons with a feeling reminiscent of a traditional Japanese public bath house.

At the heart of this intimate barbershop is a desire to provide the best possible hospitality to customers using handed-down family traditions 💈❤️

We were met by 77-year-old Masao Yamaguchi, a 3rd generation barber who works alongside his 4th generation barber son, Taro Yamaguchi. Masao-san has been barbering since he was 17 years old and studied in Yokohama! He likes motorcycles, fishing, and jazz music. Masao-san particularly enjoys listening to Bob James & Stevie Wonder 🎶

Masao-san says he enjoys all aspects of barbering including haircuts and shampooing. You may have seen Masao-san's work on the Yamaguchi Barber YouTube Channel. Masao-san says he loves watching his videos on YouTube!! He is happy when he sees lots of views and interesting comments
