I'm absolutely thrilled to finally share this dress with you. My sewing journey with this project began a year ago, but when the weather turned scorching hot, I decided to pause and ensure an excellent fit. However, I was met with a puzzling challenge: my past self left little information behind. No marked darts, no hints on where the bodice attached to the skirt. The intricate weave of the material didn't make things easier, but it's a challenge I'm excited to tackle again, especially as I have plenty of fabric left to create a matching cape.
In this video, we'll also discuss vintage zippers versus modern ones. I'll be heading to Joann's to experiment with current zipper options and sharing my conclusions with you.
Mistakes happen, and in this project, I had a major one related to overconfidence in the sleeves. The fix may not be period-correct, but that's perfectly okay – after all, I'm not working for a time travel agency!

This black dress will turn heads. It doesn't matter if it is from a different decade, it's still amazing. The timelessness of a good black dress is wonderful staple for any wardrobe.
I am thrilled to finish this dress. I started a year ago and right about the time it was to finish itm the weather got HOT. I decided to pause and wait on the finish in order to ensure an excellent fit. I was deeply confused by the lack of information that past me left now me. I didn't seem to have marked any darts or where the bodice attached to the skirt, I found the material to be exceptionally difficult due to the weave. I am very interested in working with this again, which will be soon as I have plenty to then make into a matching cape. I also am reconsidering my use of vintage zippers. I will be going to joannes and playing with some current zippers and then talking about my conclusions.
I had a major mistake in overconfidence in the sleeves that has resulted in a fix that is not period. This is okay as I am still not in fact working for a time travel agency.
