Getting To Know Priyanka Chopra Jonas | Pieces of Me

Hi, I'm Priyanka. My height is five, six and three quarters. My astrological sign is cancer. Being a homebody, sensitive, don't like going out very much. My nickname is Mimi, M-I-M-I. People also pronounce it as Mimi, but I call it Mimi. This is a photo of me as a child, probably two years old. I think I was dressed for somebody's wedding because that looks like a lehenga. I loved wearing Indian clothes. I loved anything sparkly and shiny, and obviously this outfit was one of them. My father's first love was music. His day job was a surgeon. He was called a singing surgeon. My mom, she's a student of life. Her resilience, she's a survivor. My husband is super thoughtful. When he's around, everything feels like it'll be okay. He's taught me to approach things from a much calmer place. I was a tornado, still am, mile a minute, be in a bonnet kind of person, and he's not. This is Holi 2020. This is him being a Hindi movie dramatic hero where he comes with me with a chutki bhar sindoor and puts it in my maang and claims me for life. I wasn't sure what I wanted to be when I grew up. I suddenly went from looking like a 11-year-old boy to having a female's body. I wanted to take photographs for a scholarship that I was applying to for college, and that ended up being my first portfolio that was sent to the Miss India pageant and subsequently to the Miss World pageant and kind of kick-started my career. What I would love for people to notice about me first is my confidence in myself. I don't have too many tattoos. I have this, which is my dad's handwriting. Then I have a cheque and a box behind my ears. My husband has them on his arms because when he proposed, he asked me that, you know, I checked all his boxes, and would I check another one? Then I have a map of the world on my arm here, and when I put my arm down, India's right next to my heart. Then I have one on my ankle, which is three different paw sizes for my three little pups. I think our daughter is the best gift that we've ever received. She's loved and surrounded by a lot of people, but when she needs just me, that feeling is amazing. This is an important new decade in my life with lots of changes. I'm hoping that I'm the kind of woman that will be able to live the next years of my life with grace.
