President Trump called for an end to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, making a direct appeal
for peace.
It's time to stop this madness.
It's time to halt the killing.
It's time to end this senseless war.
Trump called out Europeans for what he sees as not pulling their weight.
Europe has sadly spent more money buying Russian oil and gas than they have spent on defending
Ukraine by far.
The president said he received a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier
in the day stating Ukraine is ready to negotiate for lasting peace.
He said, my team and I stand ready to work under President Trump's strong leadership
to get a peace that lasts.
Zelensky also signaled Ukraine's willingness to sign agreements on minerals and security.
Simultaneously, we've had serious discussions with Russia and have received strong signals
that they are ready for peace.
Wouldn't that be beautiful?
The president also tackled energy, highlighting international cooperation on a major energy
initiative.
My administration is also working on a gigantic natural gas pipeline in Alaska, among the
largest in the world, where Japan, South Korea, and other nations want to be our partner
with investments of trillions of dollars each.
South Korea's industry minister confirmed Tuesday that Seoul and Washington will form
a working group to discuss the pipeline, energy, shipbuilding, tariffs, and trade barriers.
Turning to trade, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to tariffs, saying they will boost foreign
investment in the U.S. and reduce the trade deficit.
Other countries have used tariffs against us for decades, and now it's our turn to start
using them against those other countries.
He said reciprocal tariffs will be imposed on any nation that levies fees on American
products.
Countless other nations charge us tremendously higher tariffs than we charge them.
It's very unfair.
A series of tariffs, including 25 percent fees on goods from Canada and Mexico, and
20 percent in addition to those already imposed on China, took effect on Tuesday, and reciprocal
tariffs are set to take effect on April 2nd.
Whatever they tax us, we will tax them.
We have been ripped off for decades by nearly every country on earth, and we will not let
that happen any longer.
While critics warned tariffs could fuel inflation, Trump dismissed those concerns, calling any
impact temporary.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said tariff negotiations with Canada and Mexico hinge
on addressing the fentanyl crisis, with an announcement expected as early as Wednesday.
Fentanyl deaths in America need to come down.
Right?
It's black and white.
China responded sharply to the new tariffs, with a spokesperson posting on X, if war is
what the U.S. wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war, or any other type of war, we're
Moving on to the fight against terrorism.
Trump also made a major announcement regarding the 2021 Abbey Gate bombing in Afghanistan
that killed 13 U.S. service members.
Tonight I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible
for that atrocity, and he is right now on his way here to face the swift sword of American
justice.
Officials have identified the senior member of the branch of the ISIS terror group based
in Afghanistan as Mohammed Sharifullah.
Trump said Sharifullah was turned over to U.S. authorities by Pakistan.
From a major energy project to Ukraine peace talks, Trump's address signals significant
change ahead.
