Oscar-winner Chloe Zhao: People At Birth Are Inherently Good/Shanghai Oscars Party Hits VPN Snag

A live stream of the Academy Awards in Shanghai, hosted by alumni of Oscar-winner Chloe Zhao's alma mater, ran into China's Great Firewall. The organizer said the firewall in China blocked access to his virtual private network service for nearly two hours.
Chloe Zhao, born in Beijing, won the best director for "Nomad-land" on April 26, making her the first Asian woman to win the category in the award's 93-year history. Her critical comment on China in 2013 resurfaced after her nomination, sparking a backlash in China. Despite China refusing to air the Oscars live, there was cheering for Zhao at the Shanghai event.
Other than Chloe Zhao's Chinese background, the film "Nomadland" has virtually nothing to do with China.
