Big cities in China, including Beijing and Shanghai, have warned their citizens that bird flu cases are on the rise.
Despite that, the Chinese CDC has yet to provide details on this public health concern.
This is what Beijing Daily, a news media owned by China, said.
On Thursday, the news made a warning from the Chinese government,
saying that bird flu and monkey flu are spreading and can infect humans.
The announcement said that bird flu in humans is still at a low and uneven level.
The announcement also asked officials around the country to, quote,
take preventive measures and control from the epidemic.
Furthermore, the warning from the Chinese CDC for January and February
indicates that influenza A has been detected in humans.
However, both sources failed to provide details, such as where the cases have been found.
The latest report did not even provide data on what bird flu strains were found.
They only said that the infection was caused by, quote, other strains.
The United States has long criticized Beijing for covering up information about public health,
especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Shanghai, a Chinese Internet user shared a statement on Chinese social media two weeks ago.
The statement indicated that patients need to inform their health care providers
if they have been in direct contact with bird flu within 10 days of getting sick.
Recently, the Shanghai authorities have banned the sale of life jackets and will do so for the next three years.
That is to, quote, avoid the risk of public health, but only a little information is provided.
We will continue to report the latest news on what is happening to public health in China
as the situation develops.
