In May and June of this year, Chinese warships took turns appearing outside the first island chain, including the Liaoning aircraft carrier in eastern Taiwan and Okinawa waters. The specific method of the CCP’s Anti-Access and Area Denial is to attack the U.S. aircraft carrier formation so that it does not dare to approach China’s surrounding waters easily. In June and July, the U.S. military launched counterattacks in the East China Sea and the South China Sea in response to the CCP's weaknesses. It made clear that the Indo-Pacific strategy has become a priority for the U.S. in recent years.

in may and june of this year chinese
warships took turns appearing outside
the first island chain including the
liaoning aircraft carrier in eastern
taiwan in okinawa waters the scale of
the chinese navy's deployment is
unprecedented with the north sea fleet
leading the way employing half of its
main fleet including circling japan and
threatening the taiwan strait
the east china sea fleet has also
cooperated
the chinese navy consists of three major
fleets the north sea fleet which is part
of the northern war zone the east sea
fleet of the eastern war zone and the
south sea fleet of the southern war zone
the liaoning aircraft carrier is
assigned to the north sea fleet the
shandong aircraft carrier is assigned to
the south sea fleet and the ec fleet has
fewer large warships
the 003 aircraft carrier just launched
on june 17 2022 and is named fujian and
on the opposite side of china's fujian
province is taiwan
it is not known whether this ship will
be assigned to the eastern war zone in
the future whether the fujian has become
a maritime threat to neighboring
countries in east and south asia has
aroused the concern of all countries we
can see that beijing's current strategic
intention is to bring the aircraft
carrier closer to the first island chain
or even the second island chain in the
eastern waters of taiwan forcing the us
aircraft carrier to retreat
in this way the taiwan strait is like
the ccp's possession the specific method
of the ccp's anti-access and area denial
is to attack the us aircraft carrier
formation so that it does not dare to
approach china's surrounding waters
easily that is the ccp army tries to
prevent the us military from intervening
in potential military conflicts in the
east china sea taiwan strait and the
south china sea breaking through the
first island chain where japan taiwan
and the philippines are and even
deterring the second island chain where
guam and the mariana islands are and
gaining local military advantages
however the chinese navy's large-scale
operations in the past two months have
exposed its weaknesses when moving
beyond the first island chain including
difficulties and logistical supply poor
defense capabilities and a lack of air
support
it has also demonstrated the gap between
the quality and reliability of chinese
naval equipment and that of the us and
its allies not to mention the huge gap
in manning and training levels in june
and july the us military launched
counter-attacks in the east china sea
and the south china sea in response to
the ccp's weaknesses it made clear that
the indo-pacific strategy has become a
priority for the u.s in recent years
its various joint military exercises are
designed to respond to and deter the
ccp's intention to expand at sea if a
conflict arises between the u.s and
china in the future the greatest
probability is that a naval armageddon
will take place in the western pacific
with the safety and security of the
taiwan strait region being the focus
let's look at the east china sea region
first in this area china has two j-20
brigades stationed the first j-20 group
is stationed here
its objective is to defend the area
while also having the potential to
launch attacks in the east china sea
the second j-20 brigade is stationed
here but its main objective is supposed
to be to protect the chinese capital
beijing while looking out for the korean
peninsula the us has stepped up its
cooperation with japan and south korea
in june usf22 fighter jets were
mobilized to bases in japan to drill
with japan-based f-35s these fighters
have been deployed to the east china sea
supposedly to primarily counter china's
j-20s to ensure air superiority
on july 6 u.s australian and japanese
warships conducted joint drills in the
east china sea and the amphibious
assault ship uss america lha-6 loaded
with f-35b warplanes also cruised in the
east china sea
on july 12th american f-35 fighters
based in alaska were deployed to south
korea to perform joint drills with south
korean f-35 fighters in the yellow sea
this move could simultaneously deter
north korea and warn the kim regime
if beijing decides to risk war the us
f-35 fighters could also strike from
their bases in south korea and quickly
launch airstrikes against the chinese
navy bases in qingdao and dalian via the
yellow sea even threatening beijing
if the ccp's air defense radar can't
detect the usf-35 fighters in time there
is a possibility that china's j-20
fighters could be destroyed on the
ground
if beijing initiates a strike the
american military could have full use of
japanese bases or launch a
counter-attack from its spaces in south
korea as well on july 18th the us
military issued a press release namely
u.s air force navy operate aboard
destroyer in east china sea
it says joint operations test the
capabilities of u.s forces serving in
japan
fighter pilots and air controllers from
the air force navy and marine corps
tested their skills during active
missions allowing them to integrate and
train in a joint environment
the u.s aircraft carrier uss reagan is
stationed in japan but in all likelihood
the east china sea doesn't need an
aircraft carrier
u.s bases in japan and south korea have
large numbers of warplanes and f-35s and
f-22 aircraft in alaska and hawaii can
also support them quickly
with onshore anti-ship missiles air
fighters light aircraft carriers aegis
system-equipped ships and submarines the
ubus military can completely block the
ccp fleet within the first island chain
or even directly paralyze it in the home
port if the chinese air force is
dispatched after its major fighter jets
such as the j20 and j16 suffer heavy
losses the air gateways to the east
china sea and the yellow sea would be
wide open
the series of actions by the us military
clearly shows that despite the frequent
provocations by the chinese naval and
air forces they can't travel beyond the
first island chain but the
counter-attack by american forces is
capable of causing complete loss of
naval and air forces in china's north
and east war zones
if the ccp goes to war in the taiwan
strait american forces may swoop in from
the east china sea and if the ccp
prepares to attack american bases in
japan at the same time the us forces may
make a preemptive strike
let's look at the south china sea
beijing has long been encroaching on the
south china sea reclaiming land in
disputed areas constructing military
projects and deploying military aircraft
and radar making neighboring countries
uneasy
according to the japanese media beijing
intends to designate the south china sea
as internal waters which japan
challenged to the u.n commission on the
continental shelf line in mid-june
china's south china sea fleet is also
expanding and consists of almost half of
all the landing ships in the navy the
first type the 075 amphibious assault
ship is assigned to the south china sea
fleet instead of the east china sea
fleet which faces the taiwan strait
because of concerns that the islands and
reefs in the south china sea may be
attacked at any time in june the us
aircraft carrier uss reagan entered guam
after participating in a series of
drills in the philippine sea in early
july the carrier circled the southern
philippine islands and on july 13th the
u.s military announced that the uss
reagan carrier had entered the south
china sea instead of remaining in the
philippine sea east of taiwan the last
remaining u.s aircraft carrier in the
western pacific entered the south china
sea it serves as yet another strong
message to the ccp's provocation that
the counter-attack of the american
military will include the seizure of
islands and reefs in the south china sea
on july 13th and 16th u.s destroyers
sailed in the waters of the shisha
islands and the nansha islands and
publicly expressed their refusal to
recognize the territorial waters
delimited by the ccp
the u.s state department has emphasized
more than once that it denies the ccp's
claims in the south china sea and
supports the philippines adherence to
the 2016 international court of justice
arbitration in the south china sea
if the u.s military were to take action
in the south china sea to destroy
military facilities on chinese-occupied
islands because there are no
international legal and judiciary
constraints an attack can be launched at
any time and would not be considered an
invasion a chinese war in the taiwan
strait or east china sea would give the
u.s military ample reason to launch a
counter-attack in the south china sea
over the past 20 years the chinese
communist party has sought to seize
islands in the south china sea and build
islands by reclamation
however these islands are in fact
vulnerable difficult to defend and
provide support to making them a major
military weakness of the ccp
the chinese ministry of defense
protested verbally against the u.s
destroyer sailing near the islands in
the south china sea but had no
substantive counter moves on july 6 the
u.s military announced the passage of a
submarine supply ship through the south
china sea a move supposed to let the ccp
know that the u.s submarines have in
fact been patrolling the south china sea
the air force of the ccp's south war
zone the closest aviation brigade to the
shisha islands should be stationed here
it's equipped with su-30 and su-35
fighters imported from russia which can
theoretically perform air defense in the
south china sea as well as carry out
maritime strikes and support the defense
of the islands in the south china sea
however the distance is too far the
frequency of flight training is low and
there is a lack of experience in actual
combat
other related air brigades should be
even more distant and difficult to carry
out a maritime strike mission
so in the south china sea china's air
force can only play a very limited role
if its navy were to deploy it would be
at a distinctive advantage in a naval
battle regardless of whether the
shandong aircraft carrier could be
deployed
once the ccp south china sea fleet is
paralyzed it will no longer be able to
compete for the islands and reefs in the
south china sea and taiwan southern
waters will be spared a major threat
whether the ccp goes to war in the
taiwan straits or the east china sea the
u.s military is bound to launch
counter-attacks in the south china sea
and does not rule out the possibility of
early action to disrupt the ccp's
deployment in addition on july 10th the
u.s military announced the deployment of
b-2 stealth bombers to australia
if the ccp dares to make a move the b2
bombers could strike the ccp's medium
and long-range missile bases in eight to
nine hours after taking off from
australia
it doesn't rule out the option of a
preemptive strike either
on july 12th exercise rimpac the rim of
the pacific exercise and the world's
largest international maritime warfare
exercise hosted by the us military
reached its climax when ships and
aircraft from the us australia canada
and malaysia sunk a decommissioned navy
frigate
[Music]
such exercises naturally simulate
attacks on chinese warships chinese
communist warships are unable to
withstand similar strikes in either the
east or south china sea
the u.s amphibious assault ship uss
essex lhd2 which participated in
exercise rimpac demonstrated the mode of
landing in island capture
the amphibious landing ship also
demonstrated the coordinated beach
landing of amphibious combat vehicles
the america-class amphibious assault
ship uss tripoli turned into a light
aircraft carrier while uss essex
demonstrated the amphibious attack mode
finally let's take a look at the ccp's
aircraft carrier
take the uss kennedy the second ford
class aircraft carrier launched in 2019
as a reference to sum up in terms of the
quality of the aircraft carrier the us
main carrier the ford class is above the
fujian in terms of performance and the
amphibious assault ship the united
states of america is far above the
liaoning in terms of performance and at
present the shandong carrier is not
completely combat capable yet it will
take 5 or 6 years for the fujian to be
effective in combat
now the us 7th fleet can rely on a
nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and an
amphibious assault ship to limit the
chinese navy to the coastal areas
after the zero zero three aircraft
carrier the ccp has no plan to start the
construction of the zero zero four
aircraft carrier
it will take at least 10 years or more
for an aircraft carrier to start
construction and be combat ready in
other words china is waiting for the
test results of the 003 aircraft carrier
to make a 004 construction plan
that is to say in the next 15 years the
ccp is likely to just rely on the three
aircraft carriers on hand the united
states is continuing to build new
aircraft carriers the second ship of the
ford class the uss kennedy started
construction in 2015 was launched in
2019 and is expected to be officially
commissioned in 2024 making its service
date even earlier than the zero zero
three fujian the third ship enterprise
also began construction on april 5th
2022 and is expected to be launched in
2025
the fourth and fifth ships of the ford
class are expected to begin construction
in 2026 and 27. it can be said that in
the next 12 years throughout the western
pacific despite the service of the zero
zero three fujian the ccp will still not
be able to change the situation in the
area where the u.s is strong and china
is weak
now that the u.s military is
demonstrating counter-attack postures in
both the east and south china seas the
ccp's provocations proved to be weak in
substance making the mass of chinese
naval sorte more of a display in the
political sense and lacking in real
combat significance
in contrast the strength and response
options showcased by the us military are
more focused which will make beijing
consider the range of consequences of
going to war
including its own security and the risk
of undermining its regime
on the question of whether taiwan can be
seized by force by the ccp we believe
that much will depend on whether the
white house is determined to protect
taiwan
