Today's the day folks, it's Friday and it's blind day and Trenton is on a mission to knock
down the number one bourbon in the world.
Well let, it's not, it's not.
And I'm going to prove it in this video because we have four hand selected by yours truly.
This is, I'm not trying to necessarily dethrone wild turkey rare breed, but I am interested
to see how these, because I would call these, these four bottles kind of like a elevated
core lineup.
It's not like a bottom shelfer, almost like top shelfer.
Like these are very good bottles.
I know, I understand completely what you're saying.
This is fantastic lineup for about 60, 65 bucks.
Yeah.
I mean the rare breed of course can be a number one.
It's a little cheaper than those other ones over there, but not by much, 55.
You just had to sneak that in, didn't you?
But that's great though.
I mean those are great bottles.
Well, well, Maker's Mark Cast Strength, 46 Cast Strength, rare breed, Baker's 7, Old
Forester 1920.
Yes.
Excellent lineup.
Well, let's bring, let's bring these out here quick so the, so the good folks can kind of
see what we're working with.
Crazy.
I, I did pick these, so there might be a little bit of a bias, but I think a lot of times.
You did a good job, man.
Yeah, I don't know.
See, I had this great lineup.
I think that on it, like for me as of late, it seems like Baker's 7, 1920 from Old Forester
I've been ranking pretty high and I feel like for both of us, Maker's 46 Cast Strength,
I think that might be the sleeper of the evening.
I kind of did a little.
He was worried.
I did because I remember how much I liked that when we were doing our series.
That one really shone bright, man.
Yeah, I think, I think this kind of made, I think it's made his tummy hurt a little
bit.
I don't know if it was that or the cod for dinner.
With that introduction.
Either one, but yeah, my tummy did hurt a little bit.
Was it undercooked?
No, your mom did a fantastic job.
So we're going to do this.
It's just like with our other blends that we do.
We know what's in the glasses, but we don't know what glass contains what bottle.
I don't.
He doesn't.
The only person is mom over there.
She's probably not even paying attention.
She's here tonight.
She is.
She's here tonight.
She missed last time.
Last Friday.
We don't have to open a bunch of envelopes.
So just before we start, I want you to have the, I want you guys all to know that whatever
wins is Kurt's new favorite whiskey.
It takes the cake.
I need one minute before we start.
What is my objective here?
You just want me to, because you know me, it's hard to lie.
Actually, let me just say, I'm not going to lie.
I'm just not.
So I hope you wouldn't, and I'm not.
Is it my objective to pick out the wild turkey rear breed or you just, you truly want to
know what I like the best?
Yes.
And I was trying to figure out how to do this best because Kurt and I, we come up with the
ideas.
We pitched different video ideas to each other and that kind of thing.
With the video that came out on Monday, which was about the rear breed, I wanted to do a
follow up blind and I can't just, I didn't know how to make it happen so that the bottles
got chosen without some intervention from us.
That's all right.
No, it's good, man.
It's a fantastic lineup.
Yeah.
So we do know what's in it.
There was really no other way that I could think of to make it just a pure blind with
no idea.
Yeah.
I'm definitely going to be, I will definitely be honest.
I will definitely choose what my favorite sampling is of the evening.
You're just that kind of guy.
I truly am.
I learned a long time ago, Trenton, that lying is not the answer on any level.
It just isn't.
Wow.
Oh, you're really trying to, to kind of.
I'm worried.
You can tell I'm, I'm, I'm.
You're stalling a little bit.
Yeah, you're stalling.
I can tell.
I'm rolling every glass right off the bat.
I'm, I'm, you know, I'm a little nervous, I'm a little nervous.
Why are you nervous about?
It's fine.
Sometimes you have a favorite.
I was stepping out on a pretty high soap box.
Yeah.
On that video.
Yeah.
As you can see, I'm, I'm, I'm kind of staying over in my neck of the woods like I'm supposed
to.
Your mom watched that video and I was, and there she goes, you just keep going right
into his, you're just right in the center.
You're just going right up against him.
I said, I don't know.
Thank you.
I was passionate.
I was passionate about that video.
You're kidding me.
I did.
I could smell his breath.
I would be like, get in your side.
So I've got that in my mind, honey.
I'm, I'm trying to stay in my side.
All right.
That's what I'm doing.
But, oh, sorry.
I think I skirted the question.
The objective is to just pick whatever you like the most tonight.
And keep in mind that this could change day to day.
His cod, his, his upset tummy could have, could have something to do with it.
So there's some, what do they call it, plausible denia, deniability.
There's some of that, but.
It's called blind tasting.
Yep.
That's blind tasting.
It could change every day.
I almost don't want to really say much about it.
You know, I know.
I'm with you.
Because I don't want to, you know, influence you.
This gives me more vanilla notes, vanilla icing.
I am glad that I had some food before this because all I had today was a Lean Cuisine
and a couple of pretzels.
And I don't think, you know, these are all higher proof, uh, Baker's 107 proof, the 1920
I think is 115, uh, the rare breed is 114 point something, I think, oh, 116.8.
And then the Maker's 46 cast strength is 50, uh, is 110.3.
I didn't know that.
I thought it was a little higher.
No.
Now, that's probably another reason why I like it quite a bit, you know, that 110 is
perfect for me.
I didn't label mine.
I like that trend.
It didn't go deep and dark on me.
It had a nice, a lot of nice confectionery notes in there and had some, still vanilla
carried through, some oak in there.
See this, this is weird because, and I've, I've been trying to, when I, when I say a
weird note, I've been trying to like pinpoint exactly what the heck does that mean?
Because surely I haven't eaten a, well, I've eaten some of the stuff I've said, but like
this just gives me a mossy, moldy, mildewy type, type of vibe to it.
That's something I can't relate to.
Well, I guess I can when I, when I'm actually sipping on something that's extremely old.
Sometimes you get that whole dusty basement type thing going on.
Yeah.
We've, we've said that before.
Leather shoe type action or whatever.
I don't get that quite.
I have, yeah.
Get that quite on this one, you know, I think it's pretty good.
Get a little of an, an, an asbestos note on it.
I hope you don't.
I don't think I'd be alive if I did.
All right, here we go with B.
I thought about putting a Four Roses in here too, but sometimes when you do five, you,
then you can just start tossing in a bunch of other mainstays from a lot of, from a lot
of larger distillers.
I'm with you.
I think I made a mistake several weeks ago when I put five in the blind.
That's just, you know.
That was a, that was a couple.
Yeah.
That wasn't so good.
I like this a lot.
Oh yes.
There's a lot going on in there.
Oh, there is.
Got a real nice barrel char note there.
A little syrupy note.
It gives me a little sweet and sour going on in there.
That's nice.
It seems like to have a little bit of a bite to it.
A little bit.
Yeah.
Kind of on the, on the tail.
Wow.
It's like a little bit more of a bite than the first glass.
For sure.
I'm just like struggling to, to, it's like you eat saltwater taffy.
Your mouth is like juice.
I hate to say that because you put it in my mouth.
You were trying not to, weren't you?
I'm trying to find like a good way to go about it, but I don't think there is one.
It's juicy.
If you've ever had jujy fruits, it's kind of like that.
I think I'm not, I'm not eating jujy fruits and things like that anymore.
I'm off that.
Why don't you tell the good folks?
You'll kind of, you kind of led yourself into that one.
On our trip, Trenton was so kind and he knows I like candy too.
I like candy.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
I'd rather eat some candy than a piece of cake and stuff sometime.
Right?
A hundred percent.
Not her.
Excuse me.
And what did you have?
Mike and Ike's Sours or something like that?
Yeah.
Super chewy.
Broke one of my teeth off.
Right there.
One of my teeth broke off.
We were at a dentist appointment Monday.
Oh, did you?
Good.
Yeah.
Broke that puppy right off.
We were in the car on our way back from some kind of small event in downtown Chicago and
I gave him some candy for the trip and he was, you know, popping them away.
We were sitting in a little bit of traffic and he was talking and then he just got real
quiet and he just, he's like, oh look, there's a tooth.
It was awful.
At least it didn't hurt though.
Like, you know, there's just certain things about getting old that's just not fun, Trent.
I feel you.
I'm starting to go bald.
I was editing the last video and I went like this and there's like a big old blank spot
there and that's, I think that's foreshadowing some stuff to come.
Yeah, you just gotta embrace it, pal.
You gotta embrace it.
I love the nose on this one.
I'm not gonna lie.
This is my favorite nose.
Oh, it's so good.
The only thing that I can really put down for C is yes because it's very good.
I'm a big fan of C.
So good.
Cinnabon action in there.
I'm getting some vanilla custard action in there.
Getting a nice toasty flavor going on in there.
It's really good.
I'm not gonna lie.
I'm not getting, what did you say, a lemon custard?
No.
Like I said, a vanilla custard.
Oh, vanilla.
Okay, I can see that.
I was like, eh, I'm not really getting a whole lot of lemon.
No, no, no, no.
Okay.
Nope.
Alright, brother.
We're gonna go on to D then, I guess, huh?
Last but not least, eh?
Yeah.
Alright.
What's gonna happen if you don't choose?
Are you scared?
Are you nervous?
Honestly, it's not on my mind.
I can't.
You know how I am.
I'm not like you.
You like to try to think you know which one it is and everything else.
I'm truly not trying to do that.
I have to try to, that keeps me on the path of objectivity.
You know, I'm just trying to make sure I'm tasting and trying to choose what I like the best tonight.
Holy moly.
That is, I don't even, I didn't even know this word was in my vocabulary.
That's magnificent.
It's not for me.
Really?
I'm not magnificent.
Wow, okay.
Alright, alright.
It tastes a little dirty.
Dirty?
A little dirty.
I would die if this was red-brained.
It might be.
I would.
Now you just put the fear of God right through me, man, because now I'm speaking out.
You know, I, boy.
You're welcome.
This is fun so far.
I'm enjoying myself.
I know you're not.
That put a lot of angst in me right there because it just seems, it seems a bit peppery.
It is a little peppery, but it's also got this like.
There's something in here that is good, though, on second sip.
So for me.
It is a bit oaky.
Maybe a little dry on the back end.
There's something in the middle, though, in the middle of the palate that's pretty decent.
Pretty nice, actually.
On second sip.
So I get a little bit of like a peppery, like a char, a barrel-y type thing.
And then it goes into some really nice flavors.
But you got to get there first.
Yeah.
Second sip, I was able to get more than the first.
First sip just was kind of like a.
Maybe it was coming off.
I really liked.
I really like C.
So maybe coming off a C, it kind of, you know, it's a whole different ballgame from C to D.
Yeah, correct.
For sure.
Yeah.
It's growing on me a little bit.
I have to say.
Starting to feel a little bit warm in there.
Yes, indeed.
All right, buddy.
I don't know if you're ready to push one out or not.
I've got to.
I might be.
I've got to go back to A really quick, Karen.
Now that I've kind of went through the flight, I want to get one more sip of A after I've had my palate.
It's a little bourbon.
Sorry, A.
A is just not an A today.
In my opinion.
Sorry, D.
Wow, you.
Wow.
Well, what I can tell you is this right now.
All right, honey.
Trenton pushed out A first.
I pushed out D first.
That is not what I was expecting.
However, I'm going to push out A next, and I'm going to stick with my first time through B and C were my favorites.
I'm going to go through the lineup.
I'm going to go through my last three.
Yeah, go ahead.
Take your time.
I kind of knew, you know, A and D were, you know, I knew they were kind of down there.
I just wanted to kind of delineate and taste A again to make sure which one I wanted to pull out first.
But I might regret that, but that's what it is.
Okay.
Yeah, I may regret that, but I'm going to stick with it.
It is what it is.
All right.
I'm worrying myself now.
Not why.
Oh, you haven't pushed out another one yet, have you?
I have not.
Here I'm back.
I'm trying to go into next.
You haven't even finished up yet.
My bad.
C is coming out for me next.
Well, you guys are totally different tonight.
Oh, are we?
No.
No, I'm surprised by that.
I'm really surprised.
We are usually on kind of the same wavelength.
Yeah.
Not today.
Right, babe?
Right.
Not today.
Wow.
Okay.
Do we have one thing in common?
Okay, we do.
So we have B in common.
We still have B.
Okay.
We still have B, but that's it.
Oof.
I got good ones.
Glass.
Honestly, I just got a little bit of Lemon Pledge.
Did you?
I did.
Wow.
Is that a good thing?
No, it's just like, I drink quite a bit of bubbly LaCroix, not sparkling, what do they
call it?
Carbonated water, that kind of thing.
And sometimes on a Lemon LaCroix, you get a Lemon Pledge-y type, no, not that that's
a bad thing, I haven't tried, I haven't blinded Lemon Pledge against a LaCroix.
Probably not advisable, but people eat Tide Pods for a while, so it wouldn't be the weirdest
thing.
Don't eat Tide Pods.
You kids these days.
I didn't do it.
Surprisingly, I didn't do it.
Yeah.
Really?
No kidding.
Okay.
Oh man, that's so good.
I love that barrel char note in there.
Sweet and sour.
A lot to offer there, but I love this one too.
I really do.
I really like C.
One more taste on C.
Man, this is honestly maybe one of the hardest blinds we've done.
I feel like this might be harder than some of the blinds we did in Bourbon Madness earlier
this year.
These two is a difficult choice for me, because I like them both and they are completely separate
two.
They're not like profiles.
They're really not.
So it's just what I'm into tonight.
And for me, I'm going to have to push out C next, what I'm into tonight.
So for me, B is the winner tonight.
C is second for you?
Yeah, but I like it a lot.
I really do.
I would not be unhappy at all to be sipping on that.
But tonight, with the nose even changed while it was sitting there, this one's just really,
really nice.
Second for me is D.
So we agree on first place, which is B.
Trevor's second is D.
Okay.
Trenton's first is B.
For me, B was just a little bit more like smoother, well-rounded, got a nice like a
velvety, nice sweetness.
I love that bell moment in there too.
For whatever.
For sweetness, you're right.
D is giving me like, it's really good, but there's like this peppery note right up front.
Oh, sorry.
Did I?
You did that right in front of the camera.
You did.
Apparently, yesterday I-
At least this time, you blew it straight forward, not in my eyes, so it wouldn't be watering.
I accidentally burped in his face yesterday when we were closing out the video.
I had the hardest time finishing the video.
It almost leveled me behind here.
Legit.
I don't know what he ate or what was going on.
He didn't drink it.
Dr. Pepper.
I did a stellar job just keeping straight face and moving forward.
I so bad just want to say, cut, and we're starting that over again.
Don't do that again.
Wow.
Anyways, D just had like, it was a little bit more, a little bit more spicy, peppery
up front.
Like the flavors at the end were nice, but that up front just kind of, it was an uphill
battle to get to the end.
I'm going to take back my dirty comment on D because on second sip, it was quite a bit
better than my first sip.
But anyways, we're all over the place.
What do you got?
How do you want me to even start this?
Because this video is kind of for you, the whole rare breed situation, we're going to
go with Kurt's lineup.
I'll put mine up on screen here.
Are you gonna though?
I'm gonna.
If I don't, I will leave the show.
I'm gonna put this on a sticky note before he leaves.
Well, don't leave the show again.
I don't know what I'd do back there by myself again.
Leave.
He did it before.
It'd be scary.
Kurt's lineup.
Your fourth place was D.
Yeah.
Which was Old Forester.
You called Old Forester dirty?
How dare you?
19-20, over here.
I just, I, I, what is happening with this bottle for us?
Legit.
What is happening?
That was my second place.
I sort of, okay, I sort of had a feeling because I got like a banana-y type, like Old Forester
kind of thing at the end.
Of course, now that I know, but this won our tournament, our very first bourbon tournament.
It's won like two things, blind.
And it's like, but here lately it didn't do well on a previous blind that we did with
it in either.
Did you put pepper in it?
I don't know.
It's gotten quite a bit spicy, I'm not going to lie.
I don't know what's going on with that.
That just, that disheartens me quite a bit.
Anyways, I apologize.
Alright, moving along.
Yep, moving along.
Keep us going.
Kurt's third place threatens fourth place, which was A, is Baker's.
I had a feeling it was Baker's.
Well, that's wild that this is beating out this.
I would have gave you ten bucks if somebody would have told me that that would have been,
these two would have been flopped.
I'm going to be honest with you, it doesn't surprise me the two that are remaining are
in my top two.
That doesn't surprise me.
It surprises me.
Does it really?
Honestly, I would have put money on the fact that this and Maker's would have been in my
top two.
Yours?
Okay, so my, not estimate, but what do you call that?
What was it?
What I thought it was going to be was Baker's fourth, Rare Breed third for me.
This is my lineup.
And then it would have been a toss-up between the Maker's 46 and this.
The fact that this got put out and the fact that this beat that.
Alright.
I told you I made a regret.
Kurt's second place.
I'm sorry honey.
Alright, second place.
Yeah.
Are you ready for this?
Yeah.
Maker's 46.
Okay.
So, that means that you both chose Wild Turkey, Rare Breed.
Oh, he's loving it.
Oh my gosh.
Dude, bring them over.
That's that.
We got to redo it.
Are you starting over?
No, you're not.
I will say this.
Can I say a few things?
No.
You said no.
The only one, Trenton, the only one that I picked up on that I thought in my head that
I knew I was sipping because I tried not to do that, but it just was in my head was this
one.
It was delicious.
Bee?
It truly was delicious.
Bee was Wild Turkey.
Now, I could have, this could have been any of these other ones, and I will say though,
and I think I said it a few times, this one here had a sweet and sour taste, and that's
usually a Wild Turkey thing for me.
Sweet and sour delivery right in the front of the palate.
It's a little sweet, little sour.
That's kind of like what's an identifier for me for Wild Turkey, and so, but I picked this
bottle basically because of the barrel char note that was in there and the sweetness
that came along and some other things.
This one was kind of all sweet for me.
It didn't really have the depth of this one tonight.
This one had all those French oak stave things going on in there that you get, right?
The cinnabon, I think I said that, the vanilla custards and things like that.
An excellent sip, an excellent sip.
This shocks me to no end, to no end.
It does.
If you had asked me what I thought my lineup would be, it would have been this.
And the only reason is because this did so well in our previous blinds.
You know, I was hoping this wasn't going to be down there, but that would have been my
guess of how it would have ended up, but I completely apologize for saying dirty about
Old Forester 1920.
That's just awful of me.
You might want to switch those again.
Yeah, you're right.
Well, in the words of Michael Scott, that's from The Office, by the way, they haven't
seen The Office, if they should watch The Office.
That show goes everywhere.
It's a little dry to start.
I'll say it's a little dry to start.
And it's fast cut, but it's good.
It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong.
And I'm that big man.
Wow.
Honestly, this isn't what I would have expected the lineup to be tonight.
Honestly, I thought Baker.
Give me yours.
Give me yours, what you thought.
What was mine?
Trenton's fourth.
Yeah, let's do his.
Was...
I'm intrigued now.
Baker's.
I'm shocked by that.
Trenton's third was Baker's.
Really?
Oh, yeah.
I'm not quite shocked by that.
Second Old Forester, yeah.
I'm a big Old Forester, that's not surprising.
Let me just say this.
This doesn't surprise me as much because you're not, in general, a sweet, sweet, sweet kind of guy.
Yeah.
And tonight, this was very sweet.
It was.
Very sweet.
I am.
But Trenton, not so much.
This shocks me.
It's in your last place tonight.
It just does.
Because I know you're kind of a Jim Beam kind of guy.
I do, and I drink this quite a bit at home.
Yeah.
I'm a little surprised by that.
I am very surprised this is one.
Can you turn that Baker's a little bit?
Because you're not a wild turkey guy.
I'm not, but honestly.
You are now.
He's converted.
Amen.
I will admit that this is a very good bottle.
Honestly, I can't tell you the last time I reached for a rare breed at home.
Maybe I'll start doing that a bit more, but this is just hitting all the notes for me tonight.
It was me, too.
And who knows?
It could be different later.
It's that cod.
It might be the cod.
There was a little paprika on it.
Paprika?
Cayenne.
A little cayenne on the cod.
This is all for fun, right?
I have no issue admitting that something that I like might be worse than this or whatever,
but it's per your palate.
Tonight.
Because my palate leans a little more towards Jim Beam, that kind of thing.
This is surprising.
This isn't.
I think all these are a little surprising in their own variation ways, especially that one.
I think it truly comes down to you picked four bottles that were, I mean, for Shelfer,
more like Shelfer bottles.
Oh, these are all hitters.
And being more higher proof around the $60 price range, they're all great.
Yeah.
They're all fantastic.
So, this could have ended up any other way.
We could redo it tomorrow and we could have a completely different lineup.
Maybe we won't.
That's a fact.
We won't.
I'm glad I didn't bet anything against myself.
I don't think I did.
Did I?
You did not.
That's great.
I was a little uptight a little bit.
That's great.
Anyways.
Congratulations.
Something you said reigns true today.
Maybe not tomorrow or the next day, but at least you can say today.
At least for today, I'm king of the hill.
End the video.
All right.
That's all we got for you today.
Thanks so much for watching.
I had the best time ever.
This might be one of my favorite videos and it will go into the logs of the best videos of SLB.
It's possible.
I did like this video.
It was fun.
All right.
As always, we ask you to please drink responsibly.
See you next time right down here with Trent and me in a good old basement bourbon bar.
See you later.
