Although I lived in Germany for a long time, I still could not call myself a big fan of German food
and I'm blaming my German boyfriend a hundred percent for it. What? Because you're supposed to
introduce me to German food, to your country cuisine and you didn't do a good job of it. So
it's been four years and I... Why did I not do a good job of it? Whenever I cooked something
German for Yuen or I fed her something German, she took one bite and didn't eat anything. Okay
actually that was my fault. But the first reason is that my boyfriend is not the best cook in the
world so the German food that he cooked for me was not very appealing. Second of all, my body was just
not adapting very well with German food at the beginning. So after a while of trying, I was just
giving up and that was wrong of me. So I just thought that it's time to give German food a
second chance. It's time to give myself a chance to fully immerse into the German food culture. So
in this video, I'm gonna ask the only German chef in the house to cook for me German food for the
whole day and I'm gonna eat everything he cooked. It's 8 a.m and we start with breakfast, right?
That's what we usually eat first. Good and how long do you need to prepare it? 30 minutes. Okay so I'll
be in the room and when you're done just call me. Good. See you guys soon. So this looks pretty good.
Let's call for the big boss. Sweetie!
Are you ready for your first German breakfast since four years? The base of this breakfast is
the Laugenstange which is made from the same dough like a pretzel but in a long shape so that you can
make a sandwich out of it. You first add like a spread. Usually you use butter but we just have
Frischkäse now like one with garlic and one with with goat cheese. I actually love Frischkäse. Yeah
so I think you will like the one with garlic. We also have sweet toppings although I know that you
don't like sweet in the morning so much. It's not like I don't like it. I cannot eat it. Like if I
eat sweet in the morning I have stomachache. If German boyfriend eats spicy stuff in the morning
he'll have stomachache. Then we have savory stuff. We have pickles that you can put on top of it for
making a sandwich or cucumber. I know that you like cucumber so the cucumber is here. This is my
favorite salami ever or whatever it's called. No no not salami. It's actually ham right? Ham made from beef
from Spain. I don't know but I love snacking this as a snack. And he always says, Sweetie it's not supposed
to be a snack. This is so expensive. You shouldn't eat all in one go. But they just taste good.
In the greatest need the sausage tastes good without bread. I don't know what you're talking about.
So we of course we have cheese. We have blue cheese and we have pretty strong cheese from
Switzerland. So we start with the egg. Sweetie you know the procedure. We have a special tool
called Eier Sollbruchstellenverursacher. That was the longest name ever for a very simple tool.
But I love it. It's not so simple actually. But I love it. This is like physics right? You put it
on the egg. You pull this and then bam egg open. My favorite part of eating egg in German style
is adding Maggi. I think Maggi just fits very very well with egg. It's very good. I also like the way
you guys eat egg in such an elegant way. In Vietnam I just have a hard boiled egg. We never
eat soft boiled egg. You just crack it and then put the whole thing in my mouth. Here you have a cup
and you have a spoon and then you eat them. You feel like a fancy lady. A few moments later.
I just want to show you something. I just went to the kitchen for one moment.
Somehow there's no ham anymore. I think this lady has something to do with it.
Hashtag no regrets. Now we move on to the main dish of the breakfast.
I mean I know that German boyfriend is like. Oh what are you doing? Stop it. Stop it. Stop it.
I'm sorry. What the hell are you doing with the poor bread?
It was just too hard to cut. I'm ready. Today I will try everything. I will not be
picky today. So we put Knoblob in right? Be careful because there's some water.
Oh that's still good to eat? Yeah. Okay. What is it? So the bread is well covered by
fresh cheese. You can add the cucumber and the poor leftover of the ham. Okay so the
bread is ready. I even add two slices of cheese up here. Let's see how it tastes like.
So here's my review. The bread itself is very good because it was freshly baked at home.
It's crunchy. It's soft. It's awesome. The fish caesar is very garlicky. I'm not sure if I like
it. Although I like garlic but I don't like garlic mixed with cream cheese somehow. Cheese is
disgusting. Do not ever feed me the cheese again. Somehow she managed to get rid of the cheese
while eating. This is like real professional behavior. So here's my final rating for this.
7 out of 10. I love the bread. I love the fish caesar. I also this is my favorite part. I love
it. The reason why just 7 out of 10 is because it's too dry. I couldn't really swallow it easily.
I will start preparing the lunch now. We will make potato salad. So we need salt water. I'm
boiling those potatoes for 20 minutes and then peel them. So we just started to peel the potatoes.
Now we're cutting the potatoes into slices. I'm roasting some onions and now I put the broth
inside. I mix the broth with white wine vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper and some sugar. And now
I pour the broth over the potatoes. In the north people are more using mayonnaise and in the south
people are more using broth. Now it needs to soak for at least one hour. We have mustard, salt,
smoked paprika, oregano and pepper. Put them in and mix it well. Also needs to be
one tablespoon of our secret ingredient. Now we add one egg. This one diced onion.
Together with the potato salad we will have Frikadellen which is like a german kind of
meatball you could say. For that we need to soak in our old bread. First we need to squeeze out
the water now and then we add it first piece of bread. I think it looks pretty good now.
Normally I have gloves for this but we just out of gloves. His hands clean. Is your hand
clean? They're basically hamburger. Maybe this is how the first hamburger looks like
because it was like german immigrants making the first hamburgers in the united states.
So are you ready for lunch? Here we go. So we have potato salad but not the one with the mayonnaise
the one with broth and vinegar and we have a Frikadelle. Basically it's like a burger but
like with more ingredients. Thank you. I'll try it now.
So it tastes like onion. It's very very strong onion. Raw onion somehow. You cooked it right?
It's sour. It's salty. I don't think it's the best fit for a salad potato taste. Honestly I prefer
the mayonnaise version more. I think mayonnaise fits with a potato way better than this. By the way
for all of those people who will complain about the lack of parsley.
Ian hates parsley so I cut the parsley. Now I'm gonna try the meat. The meat is actually
surprisingly good. When I saw him making it I thought it's inedible. You always give me the
nicest compliments. But actually it tastes really really good. It's juicy. They have oregano there.
I have never eaten meat with oregano before. Actually they fit very well together. When it
comes to the rating potato salad I don't like it. I'm sorry. It's just not my taste. 4 out of 10.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. The half hamburger half meat bun thingy I would rate it 9 out of 10.
I would like to eat it again this week. Definitely better than the hamburger meat
I made by myself. I would like to know the recipe. I will contact you. Sweetie why is there
Vietnamese food in the microwave? I thought today's German day. I just want to be prepared. For what?
It's 4 p.m in Germany and in a traditional German household that means coffee and cake.
Or in Eun's case tea and cake.
Now we have an Apfelstrudel together with vanilla sauce. This is one of my favorite
desserts. I really really like it. It tastes like Christmas. I think I said that before right?
It has cinnamon, apple, vanilla sauce. It just tastes really really good. This is an Austrian dish.
Really? But I think it was moving fast to Bavaria too.
The cake tastes awesome but I don't think the sauce is very good. This is the first time we
use the ready-to-make sauce. Like we use this ready-to-make sauce. Usually we have the one from
a big Swedish furniture company.
Yeah the sauce is just a bit...
The cake is very good. No it's okay. Yeah my one doesn't have sauce yet. Thank you.
This is my second piece and I'm ready for the rating. It tastes awesome. I have no comment,
no notes. So I will rate it 10 out of 10. It's the best thing I have eaten up until this point today.
Oh I thought you said until this day. I'm sorry.
It's okay. It's really really good honey.
Well this is Fleischkäse. We put it into the oven now and there it roasts for 60 minutes.
These are Pfefferlinge. They are a special kind of mushroom. We will make a sauce out of them
and then we eat it together with some Knödel. Knödel is a German dish where you use like old bread
and egg and stuff and you form it into a dough and then you boil them for like 20 minutes.
So we need to fry the Pfefferlinge first. This is the moment when I add onion.
Now as the onion started to get see-through we add some white wine.
Now we add broth. We add lactose-free cream because of Öl. We also add some cornstarch
sauce in water to help it get thicker. A bit of salt and pepper and that's basically the sauce.
Dinner's ready. Are you excited? We have Semmelknödel which is kind of a dumpling
made from old bread. It comes together with a sauce with mushroom. We have Fleischkäse
which is meat baked in the oven. First of all I have to say that Knödel is my mortal enemy.
Seven years ago German boyfriend introduced me to Knödel and I tried it and it was
very confusing. It's like old bread and then you basically boil it. So imagine how you boil old
bread. It tastes like that. Okay so I will try it now and I will give you a review.
First with something I don't like first and then we go up to things that I like.
There is joy in the face. There's parsley inside. Oh man. You know as a German I always thought that
parsley is in everything and parsley is basically just for decoration. I didn't know that it has a
taste actually. Really? And then this lady comes and tells me that everything tastes like parsley.
It's been some years since I ate it and it still tastes like I remember which I don't really like.
So let's move on to the next part. But you should eat it with the sauce.
But there's parsley inside honey. I don't like parsley. Parsley has no taste.
One thing I don't understand about German food is that it's very salty. Everything is super salty
over here. For me this piece of meat would taste 10 times better if they put two times less sauce.
The mushroom is really good with the whole sauce thingy. It has a bit of like alcohol taste
and then a bit of a fatty taste too and it fits very well with the taste of the mushroom. I like
it a lot. Is that rating time yet? I think it gets rating time yet.
Rating time. Rating time. The roasted meat, the mushroom and the sauce are marvelous. I would
rate them 8 out of 10 because they are a bit salty. They cannot be 9 out of 10 like the meatball,
noodle, red cabbage. 4 out of 10. 4? 4 is still pretty much for you. 2 out of 10. It's really not
my taste. I'm sorry. But I like the rest so I like half of the food you make honey. Thank you.
You guys maybe I'm a bit critical about the German food that I ate in this video but please
keep in mind that my boyfriend is not the best cook so maybe we have like a better cook.
I would definitely rate it more okay so I don't hate German food in general.
Just my food. No, no, no. I'm just a bit critical with his food. The problem is the German food is
pretty much very heavy and greasy. So you're blaming German food instead of your cooking skill.
Is that what I'm hearing? And I just want to say that German boyfriend is a wonderful person okay.
He's good at a lot of things. He's good at a lot of things so just cooking is just not his big skill.
I don't want to talk him down. I just want to make it clear. Do you think I'm a good cook honey?
Yeah, I think so. Really? Thank you. That's what I thought too you guys.
So full and happy. Tomorrow again. But was there something you liked? The meatballs were awesome.
I would like to have them. Not tomorrow but maybe somewhere in the near future. Yeah and I don't know
if the people liked it maybe we can do it again. There are more German dishes to make and maybe
more stuff to make from scratch. Yeah. Anyway, thank you very much for cooking for the whole day
and joining the video. You're welcome. Thank you guys very much for watching the whole video until now.
I'll see you guys in the next video and have a nice day. Bye-bye.
