We love that it's different than anything else that we've seen out there.
There's probably just a handful still on the road.
I'm working from here while my wife is working in the back.
So that's what we use for our working stations.
It feels like a second day.
The first part of the day is working and then you can do the life after.
Hi, I'm Alex.
Hi, I'm Ange.
And this is our rig.
We call it our ice cream truck.
Let's go take a tour.
Welcome to our kitchen.
So in our kitchen, this is pretty original for everything.
As you can see, this is very vintage.
We did repaint the oven.
So it's a functional oven, which we're very happy.
It used to be all yellow.
Everything, all the cabinets used to be brown.
And now we painted everything white.
So it's more light and feels bigger.
We also have a mini sink here, which we made a custom cutting board for it.
Because we don't have a lot of counter space.
And we also have another cutting board here, which is really useful.
We do a lot of cooking.
So we have a lot of like spices and everything.
So when we come here, we have a little extra depth space, I guess I would say,
or like cooking space.
So it's something we can easily take out from the hooks.
We put it on.
And when we're somewhere where it's beautiful, like here,
we can do a little barbecue and have a beautiful view.
So our fridge is a medium size, I would say.
I've seen smaller, but it has a tiny part here at the top, which is the freezer.
And it's completely full because we like to eat in our RV a lot.
Because being on the road full time, I don't think we could just eat out all the time.
But sometimes we do.
But usually we cook every meal in our rig.
So we added this cart the more and more we were on the road.
Because we realized that we didn't have much access to clean water
or like that we could trust in some places we were.
And it is the original water tank from 1974.
So we don't know how clean it would be and things like that.
So the water that we fill in the tank is only used for this.
And it's for our dishes.
That's the only thing.
So for our clean water, we have two tanks here that are hooked to this.
And it's a touch.
So this is what we use for cooking.
This is what we use for drinking.
And we also have in the fridge a filter water system that we usually use,
especially when it's hot, like let's say in the desert.
It's the water for the cats.
So they have nice and fresh cold water that's filtered.
And that we know is safe.
Another change that we did when we bought the RV is
we completely tore apart the ceiling just to make sure there was no water leaks.
And that there was nothing rotting in the walls and things like that.
And we were happy to find out that no, there was nothing leaking.
But we changed the look.
So we put this wood little latch in there.
And we also redid the floor.
Same thing we wanted to see what was going on under.
So we put the insulation, new floor, waterproof for any spills.
And that's pretty much what we did.
Everything else was mostly painting.
A big part of our kitchen, I guess, is this full-length mirror and a closet.
I'm happy with the full-length mirror because it's not something that usually rigs have.
This is mostly our winter clothes because since we are four seasons in our RV,
this is like all the things we don't usually get to.
And this is also where our solar comes in and goes into the power bank.
So this journey started when I got the idea from seeing a guy.
We were with my roller derby team in California.
In the parking lot at Venice Beach, I saw a surfer with his little school bus.
And he had his surf on the top of his roof and he was unstrapping it.
And he just ran to the beach and went surfing.
And I was like, this is a life you can have.
And so that night I was thinking about it and I called Alex.
And I told him like, let's make a home in a bus and live in it.
I was a bit like shocked.
I was like, okay, to be honest, I was pretty excited about it too.
Like we, two weeks after we actually bought the bus,
which was our first rig, we converted and we just went on the road.
And that was three years ago.
And some mechanical issues in that bus led us to this one.
We still have the bus as a tiny home in Canada,
but this one is the one we use to travel.
And we've been in this one for over a year.
So we bought the rig originally for $10,000 Canadian.
Altogether, I think we put about 5K into the inside,
all the materials and everything.
And we saved some money by reusing a lot of stuff from the bus.
So like the solar panels, like I'm not including that
because they're coming from the rig.
We also find a bunch of things on marketplace.
So we're using old stuff and make it to our taste.
Welcome to the dining room.
This also functions as a bedroom.
So the bed, we use this table and it goes down in the middle
to make the middle section.
Then these cushions, they make the mattress.
It's actually a really comfy bed.
It is about the size of a double bed.
So it's perfect for two people.
To be honest, like setting the bed is about like a five minute thing.
So it's not a big of a deal.
It's worth having extra seating in the back
and sacrificing to make the bed every night.
It's definitely worth it.
This table, we made it ourselves
and the rest, we actually kept it pretty much original.
Underneath the seats, there is storage.
Here is everything related to water pump, plumbing is underneath there.
The other side is where we put bed sheets
and everything for the bed during the day.
So here at the top, we used to have little doors
when we bought it.
We removed the door.
We made it open space for all our food.
In the back here, we have snowboards.
We love snowboarding and we travel to places
where there's mountains and snow as well.
They also serve as shelves if we have extra food,
extra stuff we want to put when we're actually not driving.
This actually is Zombie and we have Biggie, our two cats.
They each have their bed.
They have the best view of the rig.
They're always in front of the windows.
They get fresh air.
One more thing we have in the back here is
we have a mini bar that is behind me.
So obviously at the beach, we love to have a nice little drink.
So we carry a couple of bottles.
Welcome to our bathroom, shower, slash clothing area.
So when we bought the rig, it used to be like a closed room.
It's actually the first thing that we knocked out.
There was a sink.
There was a full-on toilet going to the tank.
And we got rid of all that.
The only thing we kept was the shower pan at the bottom.
We installed this clothing rack that goes here.
And then when you lift it up, it's a freestanding clothing rack.
So it swivels out.
So when we need to take a shower inside,
we remove these two kind of storage things.
We put them in the benches.
And then these clothes here kind of swivel out and hang out right here.
And then when this is swiveled out, we can close the curtain.
It is a little bit of time to set it up.
So we prefer taking our shower outside.
Or if we're in the United States, we have a gym membership 24 hours.
So depending on where we are, we decide on this setup.
But here, definitely outside by the beach.
Backseat toilet, what I love about it is that it's a composting toilet.
You have in the front the urine.
And then in the back, for number two,
it's a little canister with composting bags and wood pellets.
The toilet is the top part.
And then at the bottom, it's extra storage for extra wood pellets,
extra bags, cleaning products.
It's also super easy to clean.
And you see every part.
You can clean every part.
So for my sanity, that everything is clean.
I really love this toilet.
So what we do on the road work-wise, we both work in visual effects.
So we're senior visual effects coordinators.
We started this journey in that movie field five years ago.
And then once COVID hit, it went remote, which was not the case before.
It was a studio in Montreal.
After COVID, it just stayed remote for people that wanted to.
So that was perfect for us because we had finished our rig
and we were on the road at that time.
It's a Montreal schedule.
So three years on the road doing that, six to two.
And we love it.
Finishing at 2 p.m.
2 p.m., we have a full day, beach, surfing, hiking.
It feels like a second day.
The first part of the day is working.
And then, yeah, you can do the life after.
Welcome to the front part of our rig.
I'm currently sitting in the passenger seat.
It does swivel around.
So this is actually my desk.
I'm working from here while my wife is working in the back.
So that's what we use for our working stations.
One thing about working remotely is that we do need a lot of power.
So we have a Blue T power station.
It's 2,000 watt hours.
And we have solar panel on the roof, a 620 watt solar panel.
So when it's sunny, it's actually perfect.
We can recharge laptop batteries, everything that we need.
When it's not sunny, we also have an extra gas generator here just in case.
So this area also has an extra bed up there that just it's lowering about to here.
So when we receive guests, they can sleep there.
It's really easy to make.
At the moment, we use it as more of a storage space.
There is also a little extra bed for our cat.
So if they're stressed out when we drive,
they can come here and be by us like in that little bed.
So this is our 1974 Flurry.
This is a pretty unique rig.
They only made that rig in the 70s in Saskatchewan, Canada.
We love that it's different than anything else that we've seen out there.
There's probably just a handful still on the road.
What we did outside on the rig, we repainted the blue parts.
We actually added roof rack.
We had a guy made that custom rack.
It is actually covering the whole surface of the roof, which is awesome for us.
We can have more storage up there and solar panel.
And still, we have plenty of room for more stuff if we need.
Up there, we actually even slept on the roof once.
We did that in Dead Valley, looking at the stars.
Sleeping up there was awesome.
Thank you for taking a tour of our ice cream truck.
If you want to follow us online, we have Instagram and Facebook.
It's called WentThereSawThat.
We love taking photography and share little special places we found.
And if you see us on the road, we're pretty noticeable.
Come say hi, come chill by the fire,
and I can make you a little cocktail, like a little mojito, something like that.
