Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni (8 June 1671 - 17 January 1751) was an Italian composer of the Baroque era. He composed operas, concertos, sonatas for one to six instruments, symphonies and solo cantatas. Although he was famous as an opera composer in his day, today he is best known for his instrumental music, especially his concertos.
String instruments, and the violin in particular, occupied a key position in Baroque music, especially in Italy. Like many of his contemporaries, Tomaso Albinoni composed a large number of pieces for string ensemble and many violin concertos.
With his concertos for one and two oboes, Albinoni more or less introduced a new genre. He did not copy Vivaldi's violin concerto form, but drew on his vast experience as an opera composer for both form and style.
Please enjoy this most entertaining and elegant baroque music.
