Blacksmith : FORGING DAMASCUS - PART 1
The first in a new series of How to films that I will be releasing over the next few weeks. How to Forge a Damascus Knife is a 4 part film were I explore the basic techniques of cutting, stacking and welding a 16 layer billet which is then forged out into a chef's knife. Over the next 3 parts I will show the blade forging process, heat-treating , grinding and handle fit.
Primarily I am a blade-smith , not a knife maker. These films show my own way of forging billets and blades- some of which is very traditional and some are just techniques I have picked up from other makers over the years (probably some bad habits in there as well). I aim to show quite simply how I do things but each smith must find their own style and approach.
I hope you enjoy watching the processes and feel free to ask me any questions.
