The Corona virus outbreak is causing a lot of fear, and misinformation. Here we are trying to separate the Fear from the Facts, with an interview with the Infectious Disease Consultant Dr Ravi Gowda

Hopefully, you have found the first video looking at the Corona Virus useful in understanding what is going on, and realising that whilst it is serious, the scare factor appears to be exacerbated by the way the story is being reported in the media.

Yes, the Wuhan Virus is causing deaths and is an international medical problem, but what is the SCIENCE? What about the facts behind the virus? Crucially if we look at the numbers compared to flu, should we actually be focusing our attention there?

Dr Gowda, has been terrific and clear in giving us unbiased, accurate and reasonable information about this virus outbreak and comparing it to other events in the recent past.

Some people will notice that a couple of themes from the first video resurfaces here. That is intentional if someone only watches one of these videos, I want to ensure the highest chances of the video helping them :)

One of the things we highlight here is the need to look after yourself, and part of that is being cognisant of risk. For most people, certainly outside of China and adjacent countries, the risk of Corona Virus is low. However the risk of flu is much higher, and we have that as a flu vaccine to minimise that risk of harm. So I get a mild scolding for not having had my seasonal flu vaccine, and end up on the sharp end of the needle, getting my vaccination!

Please drop your comments below, I’d hope to carry on this series but only if it is providing a benefit, and helping to provide good quality info to help you come to your own conclusions.

If it has been useful, what further videos would you like to see and how could we improve the format?
