Hi guys and welcome to some more nine ball action from the Derby City Classic 2024.
I'm Mark White and our next match is, well this has got the makings of an absolute classic hasn't
it? Fedor Gorsh the Ghost against the Torpedo Billy Thorpe. Quite a big difference as you see
on that figure at the bottom of your screens. 8.45 Fargo for Fedor Gorsh. 7.73 for Billy Thorpe.
Fedor given a big big advantage in the percentages there. 85 to 15. It is a race tonight.
Nine ball racked on the spot. Refoul rule is being used and we're using the break box. This
is the Derby City break box so cue ball placed between the first and the third diamonds.
No jump cues allowed but you can jump with your full playing cue. Billy just having a
little bit of trouble. The ball's nice and tight giving it a second go.
He's done that a few times in his life I would think. Now just out of interest
one at the front as always of course. Nine on the spot. The two ball is not allowed to be racked at
the back though so anywhere else other than at the back. Billy won the lag and will break off
looking to make the one ball in the side. Also
keep your eye on that seven ball. Does make the seven. He made the cue ball unfortunately.
So a nice little start up for Fedor Gorsh. The man that really has taken Paul by storm
in the last few years. Won the world championship in 2019.
From there he's had lots of success here as well. Master of the table. Defending champion.
Clever little shot there. Bumping the four and the six open.
One of the nicest cue actions in the business in my opinion. So smooth.
I know John Moore is called Mr. Smooth but it's a name that would be very applicable to this young
man as well. Originally from Russia. Alex Zaev. You see that big follow through. Drops the elbow
straight from the Johan Racing camp. Right from his textbook isn't it.
Tyler Steyr another player that's spent quite a bit of time with Johan. Johan has actually coached
the American Moscone team hasn't he. Fedor Gorsh is now a part of that American Moscone team.
This year we'll be hoping to bring the trophy back to the US.
And this year it's going to be played in Florida for the first ever time. Orlando Florida.
30th of November.
Be interesting to see who the teams are going to be actually this year.
Especially the Europeans also. I think we might see a few changes.
Three players being automatically chosen by their rankings in the matchroom.
Ranking list and this is a matchroom ranking event now of course as well.
Fedor using the matchroom break position. You can break anywhere in between those first and
third diamonds. This is where he's been practicing the break off for matchroom events. And there you
see the one ball straight into the side pocket. He's got a nice look at the two ball also.
Three ball over the corner pocket. Six jumps out at me straight away though.
Wondering might he take a risk when going from the three to the four maybe
to move either the seven or the six. It would be a little bit risky I know but
he's gonna have to move it at some stage. Just watch the tip of the cue go smoothly
through the cue ball. Look at that gorgeous. Now he's got a nice angle or has he? No he may
be a little bit straight on this now. Yeah he couldn't do anything from that
but he may do it now off of this four ball. Might he take the risk? I think he wants to.
I think if he plays it with power he'd be very unlucky not to have a shot at the five.
Yeah how clever was that. That's exactly how he played it. You might have seen him
pointing his cue at the edge of the seven and exactly where he hit. Tremendous shot.
That's what you call forward thinking. Terrific shot. Really could watch this guy play all day.
I liken his game very much to Ronnie O'Sullivan's especially the cue action
and in no time at all it's 2-0. The ghost. Well this is one ghost that'll scare anyone. Look at
that it's exactly as he played it and to judge the amount of bottom that he needed to put on
the cue ball just to drag that into the corner and out again. Absolute perfection. You'll often
see Fedor on social media. He's got a little table at home. I say little table he's got one of these
at home where him and girlfriend Christina Tkach are often doing little challenges against each
other. Very entertaining. They'll do a few trick shots together as well. They're kind of like the
Posh and Becks of pool aren't they. I'm not sure what Christina's like at singing and I'm not sure
how good at football Fedor Gorsht is but they're certainly a glamour couple.
What's he got on the two ball here? Not a lot I don't think. He's looking to see if he can slide
it in off the side rail into the corner. Well he believes he can. Must be very tight.
Oh right in the heart.
Yeah can't hold this cue ball so we'll go back and forth for the four. Watch that back hand
just slides through doesn't it so smoothly.
Every time I watch Fedor play it makes me want to get my cue out.
Just makes it look so easy doesn't it and then on my first shot I realize
it was a cheeky little shot wasn't it. Holding the cue ball. Wanted to hit it as full as possible
Oh he's over hit this one slightly has he? No he's okay.
Can use the side rail as well with some outside. Didn't need to. Come straight back down.
Absolutely perfectly judged the pace on this nine ball. This is a bit of a clinic from Fedor Gorsht.
Now there is one unique rule. I know it doesn't apply here because Billy has
had a shot he had the first break off shot of course where he scratched
but there is a rule at the Derby City where if a player breaks and runs the entire set
the opponent then has the chance to come out and try and do the same and apparently it has
happened once. I've heard the story I don't know whether it is true or whether it's just folklore
Now I need to look at that two he's not going to get it so it's going to be a push out
Fedor runner up in 2022. He went one better in 2023. There's one master of the table also.
I've got a great photo with Fedor at the Derby City holding one of his checks. I did drop it
but it did bounce so the push out can push anywhere on the table doesn't have to hit a rail
doesn't have to hit a ball but the incoming player can choose whether he wants to play it or give it
He's left Billy a teaser here a little bit of a tempter
but Billy hasn't had much time at the table where he's broken off that's all
so he'll be pretty cold at the moment needs to get that back arm warmed up
yeah just a little bit quick a little bit snatchy
is there a gap between three and four
he's I think he's jumping this he's just jumping the edge of the four ball
with his playing cue well he did and he drew back as well he's fluked the two ball
but what a grip what a great jump shot that was even with the playing cue well worth another look
watch this jumping just over the edge of the four ball hits the jaws goes across
it's not as rare that fluke as you might think it happens quite a bit happens even more in snooker
as well because of the cut of the pockets studying the angle committing it to memory
may go into the seven here may come past it
choosing to bump into it to hold on the five ball just a little bit of left hand spin now
so here is the key shot in this rack drawing well look at the ease he drew that back
so many players would hit that much harder he just strokes it in just caresses the balls doesn't he
wouldn't be a bad nickname for him actually fedor the caresser this really is a master class
in humanship just got a little word in my ear
saying that that nickname would strike fear into his opponents fedor the caresser
yeah i kind of get their point to be honest it's hardly the terminator is it or the hitman
neil spying the terminator torsten holman the hitman oh nine ball going close
golden breaks do count he does have a little piece of this yellow one the push out looked like he
wanted to have another go at that didn't it maybe he thought he hadn't hit it hard enough you know
good enough with one shot never mind two
billy gave it straight back he might be wishing he didn't
he's gonna have to come off the end rail and judge the right hand spin he puts on the cue ball
i wonder is he thinking of going three rails i think he is yes he is
oh good effort
slight misjudgment all in hand for fedor again cue ball two rails
in between the six and the nine i didn't want to catch the nine but it's worked out okay
i had the pleasure of commentating on fedor against dennis or colo in sharks in manila
last year raced to 90 over three days i think fedor won it something like 90 62 i think the
score was in the end i really did put on a clinic fedor never shied away from a challenge
lives for playing pool also a russian pyramid champion i don't know if you've ever seen that
game guys if you want to see tight pockets i know there's always lots of talk about
tight pockets on pool tables four inch and sometimes even less you should take a look
at russian pyramid billiards if you want to see tight pockets and he's a champion at it so it
might be some kind of that's a good throw wasn't it from billy an estranged ball
finding its way to the white ball return good time to thank our stream sponsors guys thank you
so much for all you do for us without them we're not here hustling jb john barton cases of course
joey olivier custom queues check him out go to his website have a look at what he's got to offer
litman lights and locked and loaded if you need to find them they're on hustle avenue
this is a one-way street at the moment fedor ghorst leading 5-0 billy thought can't really
get a look in at the one shot at the two ball hasn't had a chance to get going fedor making
the one in the side that's the plan cue ball was going close but it got kicked by the eight ball
fedor a little bit disappointed at the seven coming and ruining the party but maybe
can play a two seven carom here just a soft little draw gonna have to try and judge where
the two balls gonna be going not sure if he can play it soft or he's gonna have to play with a
bit of power he's got to play it with power trust into luck a little bit where the two's gonna go
well it's ended absolutely perfectly knew the general direction it would be going in
wants to bounce off the rail raising the butt playing the four five
so we're seeing everything here from the ghost i'm not usually afraid of ghosts but i will be
afraid of this one billy thought called the torpedo i don't think even that's gonna be enough
to defeat this young man he ain't gonna be no ghost buster today by the looks of it
gorgeous ghost once again the three ball well played billy thorpe as well again there nice throw
i reckon he's pretty good at 10 pin bowling big thanks to our main event sponsors these tables
of course provided by diamond billiard products the cloth we're using simonas of course the best
in the business aramith balls to put upon that cloth they don't come any better than aramith
been in the business a hundred years ounceville accurac to rack them all together you need to
video it well acustats video productions thanks to you guys as well for allowing us in also and
billiard chalk we're ready so's fedor leading six nil two-thirds of the way to the nine
both players zero losses so the loser of this match and it's looking well likely to be billy
thorpe he won't necessarily be out he can buy himself back in again once but this breaking
from fedor is just so controlled six to the seven could be a little bit tricky just because
the location of the eight and the nine so we need to get a decent position on the six
i just grabbed hold of that cue ball so well the tip of the cue spearing through the white
yeah and this is the perfect angle on the six ball there's a lot of good players in
pool at the moment filler fsr coping chump the three names that have been doing the business
just recently i honestly think this man is the best cueist of them all
you just cannot play better than this can you no need for billy to get the three out this time
it's gone the proper route found itself into the main ball trade clever little system that they
use on these diamonds the smart white little laser knows the density of the different balls
sends the white ball in another direction to the rest of them what will they think of next
once again makes the one nicely on the two everything in the open fedor gorse could be
on the hill very very quickly and billy thorpe well he's not done much wrong scratched on the
fedor pushed out on a two ball tempted billy into trying it billy did have a go at it but he was so
cold sat out for three racks missed it by some distance and then another push out shot
on the one billy gave it back to fedor fedor hooked him
billy gave it all in hand hasn't had a shot since just never looks like missing does he's just
everything's so straight and smooth well that one's gone a little bit wrong
does he bank it or does he cut it in does he play safe he's cutting it i think
no he's gone for the bank well that's why he's won the back oh it's not gonna drop
oh hold the back page quite ironic he's playing the best banker in the business
billy thorpe and there's a big cheer as billy thorpe gets a rack on the board
let's go baby says billy
i think he said i don't know why i bothered to show up
a great character billy thorpe i had him on my podcast once great fun him and sky woodward
together i've even had billy's mum and dad sorry billy's mum and sky woodward's mum
on a podcast together just before the world doubles a few years back
i even wrote a little bit of a rap song about them called mullet rap
back in the days when they both had their mullets
shorter hair now and living the good life billy thorpe not partying so much as
set himself on losing weight and being a good boy shall we say oh nearly scratched there as well
well another really well played shot fedor himself with q sponsor this year
been helping his new company develop queues can't think of a better man to do it either
very knowledgeable young man who knows he could even beat the new shane van boning
i certainly expect him to win as many titles as shane has still yet to win
us open he's got a long way to go to catch up shane in that department
oh needs to miss well second rack in a row where he's made a mistake
on position on the nine this one a lot easier though than the last one
no mistake this time and he does arrive at the hill eight one if you're enjoying this guys please

summerfield have a nut is also providing some great commentary for you guys on there all free
of charge so go check it out make sure you like and subscribe fedor liking this eight one up
another perfect break almost finishing with a golden break went so close the nine ball to the
oh and he's gonna have to push out here probably gonna leave billy a fraction of the two ball
somewhere on this top rail yeah i think he's giving him just a little bit that's a good shot
that removing removing a little bit of debris from the table that he knew was going to be in the path
of billy thorpe he's also tied up that four ball
in case he banks this well oh dear oh dear never expected that
oh not only missed the bank shot also scratched now does he try and move
the four ball from this it's very risky he'll probably do it play a safety off the three maybe
cue ball in behind the six well he wanted that tight now this is a big pocket for the three
kick off the side rail and it would open up the four as well play it with some pace
billy having a little laugh about it as well i do believe he played that and it's probably why he
missed the three ball just took his concentration off of the three good to see a game played though
in this spirit billy knows he's been totally outplayed today it's not over yet he's not
finished yet billy very capable of going on a little run himself as well it is winner breaks
remember and this is the first time he's been able to really get his hand on the table
and get that cue arm going just hasn't found perfect cue ball control just yet
cloth beginning to wear in now also it's had five rounds of play on it
not sure if fed or did actually play to make the nine or whether he's just trying to break
them open i think he was probably trying to break them open but anyway he distracted him
from the task at hand which was making the three ball he missed it and left it for billy
billy said thank you very much and gets his second rack on the board
billy has been runner up in this tournament back in 2019 to his very very good friend
billy thorpe now needs to make a decent break though he scratched off one and had a dry break
on his other one this time makes the two in the corner does he have a shot on the one he doesn't
and it's not in a great place to push either may decide to kick at it he's pushing
he's got at least half a ball he hasn't got the potting angle on it so
can't really see a decent safety so he's put billy thorpe back in
he's saying come on billy show us what you were going to do why did you push there
what did you have in mind kind of like a chess move to push out and there's the answer good
decision from fedor to put him back in it was a difficult safety to have to play fedor picked up
the habit of just brushing his palm of his hand on the rail maybe just to get rid of a little bit of
excess sweat
well he had to swerve that slightly and played it really nicely so three to the four is the shot
three in the side could play short side on the four could come right past it and play it into
the top left that's the decision and now then a really good chance to close out this match
i know billy's making a real concerted effort this year to try and get back into the moscone cup team
alongside his good friend sky woodward who is now the captain i'm sure if billy starts to show
himself in some of these matrim tournaments he's going to be playing in a few more of them
he really is going for it this year so hopefully he can make it to moscone
i honestly believe there's a lot to be said for getting on with the people that you're
playing the team with and no one gets along better than billy and sky
make a terrific doubles partnership as well
what do you reckon to that team billy sky fedor svb who will be one of the others
would you choose tyler steyer would you choose shane wolford
shane been shane wolford been a little bit absent doesn't really travel so much
does play a lot of the matchroom events in america though
so this eight and nine for a very comfortable victory fedor take nothing away from billy
fedor has played absolutely brilliant just missed that one three ball
i think billy is gonna just practice that break a little bit it did let him down
he had one scratch and two dry breaks and the racks that he did break off it kind of set the
precedent didn't it the first rack when he scratched so it's all over guys billy's gonna
have a little bit of a practice at that break let's hope he can work it out for the next round
he'll have to buy himself back in fedor goes on to round six i'm gonna nip off and have a nice
cup of tea and i'll see you on a future match very very soon ta-ta for now
