Obwohl and Trotzdem | Meaning and Use of Trotzdem in German language | B1 German Course | Lesson 11
Trotzdem and Obwohl are used very frequently in German grammar. When we use Obwohl in German language, it is possible to exchange the positions of Hauptsatz and Nebensatz. However, when we use trotzdem, then it is only possible to use trotzdem in the second sentence.
Trotzdem is a conjunction in German language and is used when we give a statement in the first sentence and in the second sentence the outcome is not expected one. One example of the use of trotzdem is as below.
Ich habe lange geschlafen. Trotzdem bin ich noch müde.
When we use Obwohl in German language, we have to follow a specific sentence structure. This sentence structure is changed depending on whether hauptsatz is used first or hauptsatz is used after the use of Nebensatz. Similarly when we use trotdem in German grammar, we also have to take care of its sentence structure. Trotzdem is used at the first place in sentence. At second position in the sentence, we conjugate German verb according to the subject of the sentence and subject itself comes at the third position of the sentence followed by the remaining sentence.
