Trotzdem and Obwohl are used very frequently in German grammar. When we use Obwohl in German language, it is possible to exchange the positions of Hauptsatz and Nebensatz. However, when we use trotzdem, then it is only possible to use trotzdem in the second sentence. Trotzdem is a conjunction in German language and is used when we give a statement in the first sentence and in the second sentence the outcome is not expected one. One example of the use of trotzdem is as below. Ich habe lange geschlafen. Trotzdem bin ich noch müde. When we use Obwohl in German language, we have to follow a specific sentence structure. This sentence structure is changed depending on whether hauptsatz is used first or hauptsatz is used after the use of Nebensatz. Similarly when we use trotdem in German grammar, we also have to take care of its sentence structure. Trotzdem is used at the first place in sentence. At second position in the sentence, we conjugate German verb according to the subject of the sentence and subject itself comes at the third position of the sentence followed by the remaining sentence.
Assalamualaikum and welcome to Germany for student channel.
Today is lesson number 11 of German language course B1 level.
In lesson number 11, today we will discuss the topic of Trotstem.
Before this, we had seen the topic of Obwohl in lesson number 9 and 10.
And we saw it in great detail that if we have a sentence in which we are telling a statement
and in the second sentence we want to describe an unexpected outcome.
In this case, we can use the conjunction of Obwohl.
For example,
I slept for a long time.
Sleeping for a long time should reduce my fatigue.
But if I want to say that
I'm still tired.
So this is an unexpected behavior.
I slept for a long time and my fatigue did not reduce.
So in this case, I can use the conjunction of Obwohl.
Now in this case, if we want to combine these two sentences through Obwohl.
So we can say
Although I slept for a long time.
I'm still tired.
And I can also say
I'm still tired.
Although I slept for a long time.
When we use Obwohl, we can change the positions of Nebenzatz and Hauptzatz.
Or we can exchange.
In both cases, we have to follow a specific sentence structure.
Which we have followed in lesson number 9 and 10.
Now we see that in this situation, if I want to use Trotzdem.
So in that case, how to make a sentence and which sentence structure will be followed.
I slept for a long time.
Still, I'm still tired.
So in Urdu language, which we still use.
If you want to use it in German language.
Then we will use the conjunction of Trotzdem.
Now in this case, the sentence structure will look very simple to you.
Compared to Obwohl.
This is a perfect tense.
In which we have to put Haben or Sein on the second position.
And on the last position of the sentence.
If we want to use the verb Schlafen.
Then we use the verb Haben.
So this is a very simple sentence.
After that, we will use Trotzdem.
Trotzdem will come on the first position of the sentence.
After that, the verb will come.
We will conjugate this verb.
According to the subject of the sentence.
And the subject of the sentence is Isch.
And according to Isch.
If we conjugate the verb Sein.
Then it is Bin.
And after the subject, the rest of the sentence will come.
Now with the help of some more examples.
Let's try to understand it in a better way.
Both sides tried seriously.
Vertrag unter Seischnung means that the contract is signed.
Now here, Vertrag unter Seischnung is a noun.
It is a feminine noun here.
And because we have used the dative preposition.
After that, the ending of Ein will be taken from the dative case.
Feminine noun for Seischnung.
So that will be Einer.
Now in this case, in the first sentence we are saying.
Both sides tried seriously.
If both sides tried seriously.
Then it is expected that the contract should be signed between both sides.
But this did not happen.
So in this case, we use the conjunction of Trotstem.
Let's make these two sentences.
And let's see how this sentence will be made.
Both sides tried seriously.
Still, the contract could not be signed.
Now we have put Trotstem on the first position of the sentence.
Kam is a form in the past of common.
And we have conjugated it.
According to As, Kamen will become Kam.
Let's see the next example.
Sie hat keine Lust zu reisen.
Er nimmt sie zu seiner Reise mit.
He takes her with him on his journey.
If he has no interest in traveling.
Then he should not take her with him.
This is expected behavior.
But because he is taking her with him.
In this case, we can use Trotstem.
If we use Trotstem, the sentence will be like this.
Still, he takes her with him on his journey.
Let's see another example.
Er möchte lieber zwei Monate durch Italien reisen.
He wants to travel to Italy for two months.
If he has an offer of an interesting job.
Then the expected behavior is.
That he starts work immediately.
But he wants to travel to Italy.
In this case, we can use Trotstem.
If we use Trotstem, the sentence will be like this.
The first sentence will be as it is.
In the beginning of the second sentence.
We will use Trotstem.
And then we will have a verb.
Here we are using the modal verb.
We will conjugate it.
The subject is er.
And according to er, möchten is möchte.
Paul has an interesting job offer.
Still, he wants to travel to Italy for two months.
The next example is.
Lisa earns very little.
She is satisfied with her work.
If Lisa earns very little.
Then she should not be satisfied with her work.
But still, because she is satisfied with her work.
In this case, we can use Trotstem.
Lisa earns very little.
Still, she is satisfied with her work.
We will start the sentence with Trotstem.
It will come on the second position.
We will conjugate the verb.
According to the subject.
The subject is z.
According to z, the conjugation of the sign verb is ist.
Mit is a dative preposition.
And arbeit is a feminine noun.
So, the ending of the possessive pronoun will be er.
Or in German, al.
And the meaning of sufrieden is satisfied.
Let's see the next example.
Er beklagt sich nie.
He never complained.
If someone has a lot of problems.
Then he complains a lot.
But Paul does not do that.
So, in this case, we can make a sentence using the conjunction of Trotstem.
Paul hat viele Probleme.
Paul has a lot of problems.
Trotstem beklagt er sich nie.
Still, he does not complain.
We will start the sentence with Trotstem.
It will come on the second position.
We will conjugate the verb.
According to er.
Which is the subject of the sentence.
According to the subject.
If we conjugate beklagen, it is beklag.
And after that, we will use the rest of the sentence.
So, this was the use of Trotstem.
We have seen how to use Trotstem in our sentence.
And what does it mean.
Now, let's come to the exercise.
The first sentence is.
Er hat viel gelernt.
He has studied or learned or prepared a lot.
Er hat den Test nicht geschafft.
He did not pass the test.
If you see in these two sentences.
If you have studied a lot.
Then it is expected that the test will be passed.
But it did not happen.
So, here we can use Trotstem.
Sie hat nur eine kleine Wohnung.
It has a small apartment.
Sie will sich einen großen Hund kaufen.
She wants to buy a big dog.
Now, if the apartment is small.
Where there is less room for yourself.
So, the expectation is.
That the person avoids pets.
But even though it is a small apartment.
She wants to keep a big dog.
She wants to buy.
So, here also we can use Trotstem.
Now, you make two sentences using Trotstem.
And write it in the comment.
How can we make these sentences using Trotstem.
I hope that you have understood the meaning of Trotstem.
If you have any questions.
Then put it in the comment.
