Hi I'm Shorty and welcome back to my YouTube channel Shorty Skates Series. Today I'm going
to go over how to do a forward 360 on this mini ramp. Before attempting this trick I recommend
you are comfortable with jumping 180. There are also two things I want to explain as they might
help you understand my tutorial better. Going wide, traveling 360. Learning to 360 with a wide path
can help you build confidence as you only need to jump 270 degrees. I call it a traveling 360.
Jumping. Push or release. If my axis is more vertical, for example low on the ramp or flat
ground, then I need to load my legs and push off the ground. But if I'm on a higher ramp or on vert,
jumping actually refers to me releasing my skates from the ramp and lifting my knees towards my
chest. So it looks like I'm jumping without actually jumping. If you try to push yourself
off the ramp at this height, you'll just end up pushing yourself away from the ramp.
Step 1. A wide path. Practice skating the wide path by pumping into the transition
and then also jumping 180. This is a good time to decide if you prefer turning towards your
leading foot or away from your leading foot. I can 360 both ways, which I'll demonstrate in
this video, but for 540s I have to turn away from my leading foot to make the full rotation.
Step 2. 270 on a ramp. If you can jump 180 on flat ground, you can use the ramp to jump 270
as it's all about the path. You can start low and slow and then build it up. If I'm turning away
from my leading leg, I can set the rotation with my arms and rotate my upper body before I rotate
my hips. However, if I'm turning towards my leading leg, I have to use my arms a little
more to help me rotate as I have to unwind my hips as well. You want to enter the transition
at a 45 degree angle and exit the transition at a 45 degree angle. So that means that you
only need to rotate 270 degrees to land a travelling 360. As you start to go higher,
you will need to pump into the transition to get the hang time to rotate. And remember,
timing is important. You need to jump at the apex of your momentum because if you jump too early,
you may not get in the whole rotation. Another key element to spinning on a ramp,
whether you're jumping 180 or 360, is your body axis. You want to keep it perpendicular to the
ramp's curve at the point that you jump. Remember to engage your core as this will stop you from
dropping your chest and throwing you off balance, which also causes you to land on your toe stops.
Step 3. The full 360. Spinning is not a strong skill of mine, so when rotating the full 360
in a straight up and down path, I really need to focus on my axis and my arms. Pump into the
transition and use your arms to set the rotation. Push or release your skates from the ramp as you
reach the apex of your momentum. You want your skates to leave the ramp simultaneously. If not,
it can mean you're using one leg more than the other and can mess up your balance. As you jump,
remember to engage your core as you lift your knees to your chest and rotate your hips and
shoulders. If you want to add more height, look to lift your knees towards your chest in a tuck
position. A few common mistakes I tend to do when practicing 360s are 1. Forcing my spin by using
my head to lead my rotation instead of setting my rotation with my arms. 2. If I don't tighten my
core and remember my axis, I will land on one or both of my toe stops. 3. Lastly, if I over rotate,
which is my most common issue, it will cause me to drop my shoulder when landing. This means I'll
lose my fakie form and makes it harder for me to link my 360 onto other moves. So that's it. I hope
you were able to take a couple things away from this video that will help you with your forwards
360s. If you have any questions, please comment below and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
