Elon Musk Revealed Next-Gen Starship TWICE Bigger than Ever…
Starship, Elon Musk's colossal rocket for space exploration, is unmatched in size and potential. The current version is already the largest launch system ever flown, but future versions will be even bigger, capable of carrying hundreds into space.
Here’s the kicker: SpaceX is quietly developing a massive 4.0 Starship, far larger than anything we’ve seen. How powerful could it be? Get ready—this revelation might just blow your mind!
Elon Musk Revealed Next-Gen Starship TWICE Bigger than Ever…
SpaceX, the aerospace pioneer founded by Elon Musk, has earned a reputation for revolutionizing the commercial rocket industry with groundbreaking reusable rocket technology. Over the years, the company has established a pattern of developing progressively larger and more capable launch vehicles. Its current flagship, the Starship, stands as the largest and most ambitious system in its lineup.
The latest iteration of Starship to fly is Version 1 (V1), an engineering marvel that boasts a towering height of 121 meters in its two-stage configuration. This makes it taller than the legendary Saturn V rocket. Starship is powered by Raptor engines, which are renowned for their industry-leading thrust-to-weight ratio, cementing SpaceX’s leadership in propulsion technology. Looking ahead, SpaceX plans to test the next-generation Starship, Version 2 (V2), in 2025. With a payload capacity of 100 tons to orbit and significant upgrades, particularly in re-entry performance, V2 represents a major leap forward.
Elon Musk Revealed Next-Gen Starship TWICE Bigger than Ever…
One of the most notable improvements in V2 is the redesign of the forward flap system. In earlier versions and concept illustrations, the forward flaps were placed 180 degrees apart, mirroring the aft flaps. However, this configuration created stability challenges during descent, as the forward flaps generated lift that caused the vehicle’s nose to pitch upward, requiring compensatory adjustments from the aft flaps. Although Starship’s flaps can retract, parts of the forward flaps and the “static aero” component remained exposed during descent, adding drag. While this extra drag aided the heavier aft section, it was counterproductive for the forward portion of the vehicle.

represents a major Leap Forward one of
the most notable improvements in V2 is
the redesign of the forward flap system
in earlier versions and concept

the forward flaps generated lift that
caused the vehicle's nose to pitch

the forward flaps and the static Arrow
component remained exposed during

drag aided the heavier apt section it
was counterproductive for the forward
portion of the vehicle musk acknowledged
this issue in a tweet stating by the way
there's a slight error with forward flap
design moving section is needed for
control but passive section is
counterproductive as it pushes nose
backwards new design rotates forward
flaps to leward and further forward to
improve moment arm maybe around 120°
apart to address this the for flaps and
V2 have been completely relocated the
new design places them on the leward
side of the spacecraft ensuring that the
static arrow is almost entirely shielded
from oncoming airflow when retracted the
flaps are nearly hidden behind the nose
cone minimizing drag and improving
aerodynamic efficiency this change not
only resolves The Descent stability
issues but also enhances overall
performance beyond the forward flaps
SpaceX has reinforced or upgraded
numerous components in V2 to improve
durability and functionality for example
the nose cone and header tank have been
made sturdier and new systems like the
Pez dispenser for satellite deployment
and specialized components for a launch
Tower catch mechanism during Landing
have been integrated these enhancements
are part of spacex's commitment to
making Starship not only reusable but
also robust enough to handle repeated
missions with minimal maintenance
however spacex's ambition don't stop
with V2 the company is already planning
an even larger version Starship V3 this
future iteration is expected to Eclipse
its predecessors in every measurable way
with a projected height of 150 M V3 will
become the tallest rocket ever built
surpassing all previous records this
additional height will translate into an
unprecedented cargo capacity potentially
doubling that of V2 to put this into
perspective constructing the
International Space Station required 60
space shuttle flights to transport 420
tons of material Starship V3 could
accomplish the same feat in just two
flights powering this massive rocket
will be an array of raptor engines
capable of generating a staggering
10,000 tons of thrust at sea level this
level of performance will make V3 a true
Workhorse for both commercial and
scientific missions enabling SpaceX to
tackle larger payloads and more complex
missions than ever before perhaps the
most astonishing aspect of V3 is its
cost while one might expect such an
advanced rocket to come with a hefty
price tag SpaceX aims to make it the
most cost-effective rocket in history
incredibly v3's estimated launch cost is
only 2 to3 million us far less than that
of Falcon 1 spacex's first rocket which
at the time cost $10 million per launch
this remarkable cost reduction is made
possible by the complete reusability of
the rocket and an optimized design that
minimizes refurbishment time and
expenses between flights this
affordability has the potential to
transform the commercial Aerospace
industry making space more accessible
than ever before with these advancements
Starship V3 represents a pivotal moment
in Aerospace history its combination of
size performance and cost efficiency
promises to redefine the possibilities
of space exploration and Commercial
Services as SpaceX continues to push the
boundaries of what Rockets can achieve
the future of space travel looks more
exciting and accessible than ever surely
the current Starship already feels like
the Pinnacle of launch systems but in
musk's vision for multiplanetary
colonization no spacecraft is too big
and now musk has hinted at the next
version of Starship featuring a
staggering diameter of 18 m double the
width of the current Design This upgrade
would not just make it wider than the
Saturn's first stage at 10 m and the
Soviet Union's N1 rocket at 17 M it
would Crown it as the widest rocket ever
constructed doubling the diameter means
quadrupling the cargo capacity for a
vehicle of the same height allowing this
version of Starship to transport four
times more cargo or passengers than the
current iteration imagine an entire
space station launched in a single
Mission however such a leap in size
requires proportional increases in fuel
and structural weight demanding an
equally massive leap in thrust the
current super heavy booster powered by
33 rptor V2 engines producing 230 tons
of thrust each already offers an
unparalleled liftoff capability however
for the 18m Starship SpaceX would likely
need over 130 engines but there's more
with raptor 3's thrust already climbing
to 280 tons and plans for 300 tons this
this next Generation Starship could
achieve the needed thrust with fewer
engines musk might even introduce a new
larger engine with a more powerful
turbine reducing the complexity and
maintenance of managing hundreds of
engines per flight but honestly why even
make a big rocket like this the answer
lies in spacex's ultimate goal
colonizing Mars establishing a permanent
settlement on Mars will demand
transporting vast quantities of cargo
and thousands of people SpaceX envisions
launching thousands of Starships during
each 26mon Mars transfer window however
this ambitious plan requires launching
thousands of orbital tanker missions
just to refuel these ships in space it's
a logistical Challenge on an
unprecedented scale yet a larger
Starship could significantly simplify
this process in fact musk's 2016
interplanetary transport system proposal
which involved 12 m in diameter already
hinted at his intent to scale beyond the
current Starship an 18m version could
carry four times the payload reducing
the number of Mars bound Starships from
a th000 to just 250 per C OD similarly
the number of tanker flights could drop
by over
3,750 potentially eliminating the need
for orbital refueling Depots altogether
this scale up would not only make Mars
colonization more feasible but also
streamline resource allocation for lunar
missions building a sustainable Mars
colony requires more than just varying
people infrastructure habitats food
supplies and equipment must all be
transported in bulk a larger Starship
would accommodate these needs enabling
fewer launches and ensuring the
settlement has everything required for
long-term survival additionally the 18m
Starship could revolutionize lunar
missions delivering an entire basis
infrastructure in a single flight
accelerating Humanity's efforts to
establish a permanent presence on the
moon in general and the US's along with
other Allied nations in particular but
don't get me wrong this next Generation
Starship isn't just about size it's
about capability with its immense cargo
capacity unprecedented thrust and
groundbreaking efficiency the 18m
Starship will transform space
exploration and push the boundaries of
what's possible whether it's Mars the
moon or beond this colossal spacecraft
could redefine Humanity's place in the
cosmos and with such outstanding
advantages why hasn't SpaceX already
built this super large version of
Starship the answer lies in the sheer
complexity and challenges involved an
18m diameter Starship would be an
entirely different vehicle requiring
substantial changes across all stages of
development and operation to begin with
SpaceX would need a new production site
tailored to its immense size
this would necessitate constructing
larger meab Bay expanded tank farms and
thicker steel rings than those currently
used the launch and testing
infrastructure would also need to be
reimagined the existing Launchpad and
water Dill system are unlikely to handle
the heat and vibrations produced by 130
Raptor engines firing simultaneously
while SpaceX has a track record of
rapidly upgrading its systems achieving
the necessary robustness for such a
colossal rocket remains a formidable
challenge case in point starship's
current mechazilla launch Tower is
designed to catch Starship and its super
heavy booster during Landing however
capturing a vehicle four times the size
and mass of the current Starship would
be incredibly difficult a potential
solution would be to forego the tower
entirely and revert to the traditional
Landing method and transportation poses
another significant obstacle no existing
routes are large enough to accommodate a
ship of this size to address this SpaceX
would need to minimize Transportation
requirements by building and launching
the rocket directly at its production
site the largest hurdle however is a
bureaucratic one launching a rocket of
this magnitude would require years of
environmental testing and Regulatory
approval issues like shock waves
emissions from burned Fuel and human
safety must be rigorously evaluated
before such a giant rocket could be
cleared for operational use the idea of
such a large spacecraft might seem like
a far-off dream but it actually has
historical roots in
1962 Captain Robert C Truax a rocket
engineer in the United States Navy
proposed an ambitious design for a giant
spacecraft called The Sea Dragon at 150
M tall and 23 m in diameter the Sea
Dragon was a two-stage sea launch
orbital super heavy lift vehicle it had
the remarkable ability to deliver 550
metric tons or 1.2 million pounds into
low earth orbit making it one of the
most powerful launch systems ever
conceived trax's goal was to create a
lowcost heavy lift launcher that would
be both effective and affordable this
concept known as the big dumb booster
focused on minimizing operational
expenses H TR was ahead of his time to
achieve this true ax envisioned the
rocket being launched from the ocean
drastically reducing the need for
complex ground infrastructure a large
ballast tank system would be attached to
the base of the first stage engine
allowing the rocket to be lifted into a
vertical position for launch this design
also placed the Rocket's payload just
above the waterline making it much
easier to access before LIF off Truax
had tested this basic concept with
earlier projects such as the CB and
seahorse showing promising results the
sieg Dragon design was crafted from
robust and simple materials such as 8 mm
steel sheeting keeping costs low and
construction straightforward the rocket
was planned to be built at a Seaside
Shipyard where it could then be towed
out to sea for launch one of the most
Innovative aspects of the Sea Dragon was
its focus on reusability the system was
designed for Passive re-entry allowing
rocket sections to be recovered and
refurbished for future launches this
approach could have significantly
reduced the cost of space launches
making the Sea Dragon a potentially
game-changing vehicle however the Sea
Dragon project was ultimately Shel it
was introduced during a time when the
Apollo program was winding down and the
Vietnam War was consuming a significant
portion of the US budget as a result
NASA disbanded its future projects
Branch effectively halting most manned
Mars Landing initiatives without the
necessary funding and backing aerojet
now known as aerojet Rocket dine was
forced to abandon the Sea Dragon concept
although a spacecraft of that scale is
unlikely to debut in the immediate
future the concept has not been entirely
forgotten musk has expressed his
interest in larger spacecraft and while
the development of a version of Starship
larger than what is currently envisioned
may not occur for at least another
decade musk has not ruled out the
possibility if you share the excitement
of seeing such a massive vehicle come to
life comment release the beast down
below the future of space exploration is
closer than we think and with that
everyone thank you so much for tuning in
as always this has been Kevin from great
SpaceX until next time keep looking up
