More controversial comments allegedly made by Carla Sophia Gascon are coming to light. According to a screenshot of an exchange on X from October 2022, published by the Latin Times January 31st, the Oscar nominee insulted her Emilia Perez co-star Selena Gomez. Commenting on a news article about how there seemed to be no bad blood between Selena and ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber's wife Hailey Bieber after they posed for a photo together at the annual Academy Museum Gala, Carla allegedly wrote, She's a rich rat who plays the poor bastard whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his wife. E! News has reached out to reps for Carla who deactivated her ex account January 30th and Selena for comment but hasn't yet heard back. The alleged post criticizing Selena is just one of several contentious messages that Carla reportedly shared in the past. Other posts unearthed by social media users in recent days allegedly show Carla making controversial statements about Muslims, the killing of George Floyd, and diversity at the 2021 Oscars. These posts have since been deleted and have not been independently verified by E! News. However, the 52-year-old has since apologized for making divisive remarks online without confirming specific offensive comments. Saying in a statement to NBC News via a Netflix spokesperson, I want to acknowledge the conversation around my past social media posts that have caused hurt. As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. The Spanish-born actress, who's making history as the first openly trans performer to be nominated for an Academy Award at this year's show, ended her statement saying, All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness.
