Hello beautiful people and welcome back to Curating with Mimi. Today we are in the entry
hall and I will be putting together the entry hall, maybe the dining room. There's not a
whole lot different than I will be doing in the dining room but adding some embellishments.
But let's get started. So far I've already painted these barrel base and I chalk painted them. I will
insert the clip just to show you guys a little bit how I chalk painted the base. This obviously
is the theme that we're going with for the entry hall and nutcrackers. So I will take these, put
these in position of where I think I want them to go and that's one on this side and
I believe I want the other here. These barrel bottoms, it was a dining room table before
and I just never got rid of it. The actual base, base was unusual. It is an unusual base. It has
like a crackled finish. I chalk painted it black white just for this applique. I like to put things
on top of or have a base. This is a two-story entry so it would look pretty grand if I
placed items on top of bases. Nutcrackers, which I will do again today. Speaking of which,
this was the nutcracker that I used last year and we're going to open him up.
This nutcracker is old. I've had it for at least six or seven years and each time,
not each time, sometimes this used to be blue. I think it was gray at one point and today
I'm going to change the green and paint them out. This is truly how I pack my items away so that I
can keep them year after year. Some of them I have in the original box but this guy I don't have in
the original box. And so last year the Christmas tree was this gorgeous emerald green and I painted
the the legs, the front part, the beard. This year, the Christmas tree, I'll let you guys wait and see
but we're using different colors and I do want to utilize this beautiful guy here. Therefore,
I will paint him out. I'm going to paint this guy out. I'm not really sure on the colors that I want
to use but I know I want to paint the face acrylic paint so I'll probably need to use
several different coats to get the color that I'm looking for but I'm okay with that. The other thing
is it doesn't have to be perfect for me. Let me show you guys with the acrylic how it's a,
it really is thin but the more coats that you put on the better the coverage gets and it's not
something like a chalk paint where you can just put it on thick and go about your way.
So I believe I'm going to love this color. I almost, I'm almost certain that I'm going to love
the color. Let's talk about this gorgeous tree. I've reconfigured some things. Initially, I was
going to have both of these drums and I talked about that on each side but to be honest with you,
I couldn't find my nine-foot tree so I had to re-evaluate and now I have this gorgeous 12-foot
tree here. This comes in a nine and a half foot or a nine-foot tree. It is simply adorable. It is
from Walmart and it is so inexpensive to get the green and it almost looks like the North Folk tree.
This is one of those trees that did go viral. There are enough lights on here but I'm going to
add more lights. Designer tip, I add lights to everything extra. Whether it is a garland, a wreath,
a tree, I always add extra twinkle lights and I just showed you what it looks like without the
lights. I will relight it once I get all of my lights on and I'll show you the difference as to
what this is going to look like. The next tip, have two sources of energy or output. My Christmas
tree lights that are already on the tree will not connect to the same extension cord as my
external lights. I think it's too much power that I am trying to place on a Christmas tree. Even
though I have extendable outlets on this tree that I can plug into the back of one light,
I don't do that with Christmas lights. This is the second one. I will place two
and this lights up. How cute is that? I created this drum out of a hat box that I picked up at
winter nutcracker theme for Christmas for the entry hall, I tried to locate nutcrackers the
size that I needed and I was unable to so I went to HomeGoods and I found these little keepsake
boxes or hat boxes, whatever you want to call them and I decided to purchase some nutcracker
paper. This is what I needed and so I went ahead and I purchased this. I'll link this because this
is Amazon I believe but I'll double check and I'll link it. So I'm going to make drum, I'm going to
make drums. Now I did locate some but they were super, super expensive for the size. I was like
that's crazy. I'm not going to pay $200 for drums that I could make myself. I thought I could make
them myself. We're going to see if I'm able to make them. So I definitely want to hot glue
the box together. Hopefully this will stay otherwise I could tape it but I think hot
glue would be better. So that's one. Let's do this one. There are lines,
there are lines in the back of the paper so that you could follow the lines to make sure
everything is straight. Obviously I did not do that. So my first one, it will be crooked but
okay it's mine. It's not a client's.
And I just cut this one, hot glued the bottom and now I'm just going to bring the hot glue over.
Thinking about prior to cutting this, I couldn't do it with this one but I can with these two,
is instead of it just being a drum I kind of want to make it a checkered
gift, like a package. So if this was a gift wrap paper and it was something round, I would
gather it at the top. That's going to look so delightful in the tree. A tie and tie it but
you guys know I'm going to do something else too. Ah! So to embellish it a little bit I
picked up these items from my wholesale vendor and I'm actually using this on the nutcrackers
but I thought it would be great to use it and they were like two dollars, right? That is so,
okay so this is what I'm doing. I think that is so cute to tie that through. This has wire in it.
Everything has wire in it, right? I think that's going to look really cute,
really, really cute but I put my braid on backwards. Let's turn it around.
I created this drum out of a hat box that I picked up at HomeGoods and I would like to have it here.
One of the reasons why I chose this tree was because the branches are spread like a North
Fork tree but this isn't a North Fork tree and I'm able to just squish things inside of there
and I don't need to particularly have wire to hold it. It's literally being held up by the branch
and the fact that this is not a rotating tree this year you can just pluck it in here
and the branch is actually holding that up. I love that effect. At this point I will just start
adding my Christmas bulbs that I'll be using and the colors that I want to work with and so far
the top of the nutcracker, the highest nutcracker, any designer tip, always decorating your Christmas
tree like a designer. One of the things that we tend to do is top off the Christmas tree.
Most people do the topper at the end. I do the topper at the very beginning because it sets the
tone and pace and it also shapes the tree from top to bottom. These I'm using as a topper this year
and you've seen these before. I used them for the outdoor table setting. They are gorgeous
with the gold beading. All of the limbs have wires and this is the second one and you can
see the difference. Typically you probably will pick this up at like a Michaels. I pick both of
up to the tray but when I place them together it will give me the illusion.
Next I will add my bulbs. I always add the larger bulbs first and I want to kind of spot it in
with my main color which you can see the main color is going to be gold
adding any type of textiles like a bow and I decided to have two. One is a velvet
and the other is a checkered and it's a small checkered that I'm placing strategically and I
will only have a few. So I'll think about where I want it to go first. Oh that looks really really
good. So I'll make the bows off camera strategically place them and then I'll bring you
back for the next element that I will add to the tree. They are this little popsicle
lollipop. Now I'm carrying on the theme that I have in the living room with the lollipop but
it's a different color and then I love these berries for Christmas. They are great fillers
for the tree and that's pretty much where I am now. I have all of my large bulbs. I'm creating
contrast with the different color, the checkered, so many patterns, so much texture. I love the
disco ball that I'm placing and now I will just add different areas for this type of embellishment
and you just stick it in the tree. Oh that looks so good. Let's do these though because I do like
to have it where we're still focusing on one thing at a time. I have a bag of fillers and
mainly my fillers I'm going to concentrate around this area here because I've got all my bulbs
up top in the middle, my checkered pattern here,
so the fillers are going to give me texture and color at the bottom.
Hello beautiful people and welcome back to Creating with Mimi. We are here today finalizing
this entry hall and as you can see it is coming together really well. I am in love with everything
that I've chosen thus so far. So today I want to finish this area, rounding it out with Mr.
Nutcracker. We've got to give him a name. You guys come in, leave comments in the comment section
with what you guys think we should name the new Nutcracker. Well he's not new, he's just recently
been painted. I just repainted him, gave him some color, tied him in to the theme. What I do want to
note is this year I'm not adding any garland on the stairwell. I wanted this Christmas to be
a no fuss, I say that every year or at least for the last two to three years, a no fuss Christmas.
Without further ado, let's get to finishing and rounding out the space with everything that I'm
going to do. All right I added these gorgeous drum sets for the Nutcracker and I am in love
when I took them out of the box. I thought they were fabulous. Remember on this side I tried to
create my own little drum out of a base table but this is the way it should be done and what you
have here is this gorgeous trim that's black. Some of the gold accent ties in with the gold tree
and I've created the warmth, the checker drum. We're going to talk about all of those things
but let's finish the tree so far. So I want to add a little bit more gold.
I want to start with this gorgeous baby here and I want to stuff her in like so.
Just stuff her in between. I think that is just gorgeous. Let's step back and take a look.
Yeah, I want to add more to this Nutcracker. Oh my god, just gorgeous. Look at the detail,
the roping and I want to place this here. Creating balance. This is a designer tip.
So yes, I'm creating balance in this space. I have this that I'm elevating and raising. I will
sit something on top on that side. This star Jingle Bell but it doesn't jingle. This was
purchased at Sam's Club this year. I thought it was just perfect. So let's put and I want to
lean it up against. We're also going to affix it to the tree. I don't want anything coming off.
This is bendable. So that's fabulous there and I will add one more gold. The gold here.
This one is the opposite side and I'll place it just behind there. Designer tip. This is
a double entry hall so it's massive and I wanted to bring a tall tree. Typically I'll get a seven
foot or nine foot tree and I'll sit it on top of the table but this year it's going to be a little
bit different because I use my nine foot tree in another room. So I ended up placing a 12 foot tree
in this area and I cannot talk enough about how I love the tree. I love the fact that we added
clusters, small bulbs. So if you have a bunch of small Christmas bulbs, take them instead of
individually placing on the tree and create a cluster effect. You're going to love that. It's
going to be more impactful and I'm creating contrast between the gold and the black. The
checkered drum that was made is absolutely perfect and it complements the Harlequin
drum set that's on the floor with the large jingle bells that are in gold and we already
talked about Mr. Nutcracker. He's absolutely fabulous. Okay I can go on and on and on about
this tree. I just love the tree and it ties in with all of the elements that I have changed
and added this year for spring. See so let's focus on this side on the left side
to create balance and I've got a few things in mind that I want to try.
This vase, sorry guys I've had it for 10 maybe 15 years and I purchased it through the trade.
There's even some touch-up areas that I need to be touching up on but I'm just going to turn that
around so I like that element of the white there but it still seems to be just a little
off balance so I'm going to play with it and add a floral to it.
I haven't decided if I'm going to leave it just a white vase or if I'm going to add
an element
and bring in the gold. You guys remember this vase that was outside and then it was in the
living room for spring and now I'm bringing it to the entry. I am taking the stick tree
which I absolutely love and I will place it. I'll fill this in. I'll take some of the noodles.
So I don't want it to be matchy-matchy like the same size over here. I don't want that. I want
this one to be a little bit smaller and now I still have my open entry. While I'm on this side
let's add a little contrast to the chair area and I will place the black serpa. I love this
and now I'll add my imitation grass on top so that you won't see my paper stuffing.
This is so gorgeous to just add a little light and I'm pretty much just adding sparkle
throughout the house. Let's get this taken care of. All right there you have it. This is the
entry hall and I absolutely love this. It is just stick lights that I've placed
everywhere throughout this area and it's so cozy, so warm, so inviting and easiest part
this is super simplistic. The most complicated and I wouldn't even say complicated but time
consuming thing was the Christmas tree which is drop dead gorgeous. I will spin it around and let
you guys get a full view of what this entry hall looks like for Christmas. Until next time
make every single day a great day.
