There were in the same coun-try shep-herds a-bid-ing in the field,
Keep-ing the night-watch-es o-ver their flock,
And, Lo, the an-gel of the Lord came up-on them,
The glo-ry of the Lord shone a-round them:
And they were sore a-fraid.
And the an-gel said to them,
Don't be a-fraid!
See, I bring you good tid-ings of great joy,
which is for all peo-ple.
For to-day in the cit-y of Da-vid,
A Sav-ior has been born for you,
which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign un-to you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in clothes,
ly-ing in a man-ger.
Sud-den-ly,
With the an-gel, a crowd of heav-en-ly host prais-ing God,
Glo-ry to God in the high-est heav-en,
On earth peace a-mong those whom He fa-vors.
As the an-gels de-part-ed in-to heav-en.
The shep-herds said one to an-oth-er,
Let us now go to Beth-le-hem,
And see this thing which is come to pass,
Which the Lord hath made known un-to us.
The shep-herds came with haste,
And they found both Mar-y, and Jo-seph,
And the ba-by ly-ing in a man-ger.
And when they had seen it,
They made known a-broad the say-ing
Which was told them con-cern-ing this child.
And all they that heard it won-dered at those things
Which were told them by the shep-herds.
But Mar-y kept all these things,
And pon-dered them in her heart.
And the shep-herds re-turned,
glo-ri-fy-ing and prais-ing God for all the things
that they had heard and seen,
E-ven as it was spo-ken un-to them.
