Okay, so today we're repairing rust on a fender
We're going to repair the rust and repaint the entire fender. I'm going to show you how to do it step-by-step
Okay, I've went into my parts store, and I've given them the color code of this car
Sometimes you'll find it in the glove compartment or it could sometimes be inside one of the rear doors
And that way you can match the color of your car and have it put in an air saw can which saves you having to have
a compressor or a spray gun
Okay, so the first thing we're going to use is our angle grinder with a flat disc in it
We're going to try and sand away as much of the rust as we can
Okay, so if this was a newer car
We'd probably be replacing the fender because it's quite rusted. What we're going to do for now is just to
Help the rust is we're going to put a bit of rust treatment on it, which will hopefully slow down the process of any more rusting
Okay, so I've got some 180 sandpaper, and I'm just going to prepare the area for some body filler
If your body filler mix properly it should be a even color
Okay, so when we sand that with 80 sandpaper. We need to wait about 30 minutes for it to go fully off
okay, so the filler is dried now for about 30 minutes and
It's good and hard
So now we're going to start sanding with 80 sandpaper
And then we're going to move on to 180 to take the heavier scratches out
If you haven't got a sanding block a bit of 2x1 timber is just as good
Okay, so now we have the shape that we need. We're just going to start sanding with the 180 to take all these heavy scratches
Okay, so now we've got our 800 sandpaper, and we've got our water, and we're going to sand down the entire fender
Okay, so we sanded the wing down with 800 sandpaper. We've blown it down with compressed air
Now we don't want to get paint on the rest of the car, so we're going to mask it up as best we can
Okay, now it's time for the primer coat. I've shaken the can very well, and also I'm wearing a respirator
Okay, so the primer is dry now about 30 minutes
So we've got our 800 sandpaper again and our water, and we're going to sand down the primer
Okay, so the next step is the color. Before that we just want to clean the whole panel down with some panel wipe
With the color there's no need to go higher up on the fender. We just want to concentrate in the area where the rust was
It's easier to blend the color that way
Okay, so now we'll leave that color coat go hard for about maybe five minutes before we put the clear coat on top
Okay, this is the final step, the clear coat
You want to be careful with this not to get runs
Take it slow to start, very very light coat, and then build up to your heavier coat
Okay, so that's the clear coat on. We'll leave that to dry for about maybe 40 minutes, and then we'll remove the masking
Okay now, so it's dried for about 40 minutes, so let's remove the masking and see what it looks like
Okay, so the lacquer is fully dry
And these are the finished results
Looks pretty good compared to what was there before
It didn't cost a lot of money to do it either, and you can do it all at home
Thanks for watching guys
