A loss in the family has affected everyone in different ways. In one house visit, what can Theresa find in the world beyond?
You cannot stop living or holding yourself back
because he died.
He says, you are going to have this full, amazing life.
So today, we are in Syosset, and I'm
going to Erin's uncle's house to do a house cleansing.
I do house cleansings because people ask me to.
There are people that do specialize in that.
My specialty is talking to the dead.
Hi.
Hi, Erin.
Welcome to my great uncle's house.
I see this.
This is my mom and sister.
I'm Teresa.
Nice to meet you.
Fran.
Nice to meet you.
Daughter Farrah.
So when Erin told me that Teresa was going to come
do a house cleansing, I didn't really know what to expect.
I can't even begin to wrap my mind around it.
I mean, there's so much stuff here and so much history.
I was really just curious and, you know,
kind of excited to see what was going to happen.
Usually, I have it, if someone asks me
to do a cleansing of a house, it's
usually when they move into a home, where they just
take it over someone's space.
It's also about being able to allow a new family to live
here, because I feel like in every crevice of this house,
in every room in this house, I feel the family.
Do you understand that?
I walked in this room, I immediately
heard the singing, the dancing, the music.
And like, I feel like this is where everything happened.
Like, this is where everyone gathered.
They hosted Christmas Eve every year,
and the whole family came.
We spent a lot of time at this house,
growing up, every Christmas Eve.
I feel like I'm here today to sage the house,
but I felt like it was also to give you that gift
of being able to let go.
Well, who had the blood disease or the blood disorder?
I feel like cancer was something that was, like,
from head to toe with the blood.
There's something about head to toe.
Yeah, my husband, her father, and her father.
You had him.
Hodgkin's.
So has he gone for some time?
Almost 13 years.
Validating that all of the souls are
together on the other side?
I immediately knew it was him, because he
had Hodgkin's lymphoma, which is a type of blood cancer.
I can also hear him breathing.
Then they disconnect me from a machine.
So is that something that you had in the end?
Because he says, I want you to know
that I departed on my terms.
That I needed to leave at that moment,
because I could not watch you watch me take my last breath.
Do you understand that?
He was disconnected.
But he had already passed.
Yes, that's true.
He had passed two days prior.
I was away while he was going through treatment,
and it's just something that I think about.
You know, I think about it, and it just
happened so fast when I got back.
I miss him a lot.
Your father made me feel like that it was important
that you cannot stop living or holding
yourself back because he died.
He says, you are going to have this full, amazing life.
And he says, you're doing whatever it is that you want.
Are you a teacher or something?
Coach.
I coach running.
Oh, you do.
I feel like you're teaching and guiding people in something
that you have passion and that you love.
So know that your dad is extremely proud of you for that.
I mean, it's all pretty new.
Like, I just quit my desk job.
Yeah, no.
But the added to her running is,
she runs to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
I did feel him here today with Teresa.
He totally came through.
It was him for sure.
I feel relieved, and I feel good.
This family is receiving messages from their loved ones
that they didn't even know that they needed to hear.
There's something very liberating
about what you want to do.
And I feel like you have all these ideas.
And I feel like I'm in like a wooded area.
More of what that's what I meant by the camp.
I'm opening a summer camp for LGBTQ runaways
in Los Angeles, in the mountains.
So homelessness in the LGBT community is a problem.
And I am passionate about getting the children
off of the streets.
I feel we have a responsibility to the next generation
to take care of them.
The camp is called Camp Kikero,
and it's gonna be a musical theater camp.
But it's bigger picture is the housing,
is getting them off the streets and teaching them
and teaching them and taking care of them.
Your uncle made me feel like you're gonna hit
some roadblocks, but do not let any roadblocks hold you back.
You are gonna be very well supported in your dreams.
Okay.
So when Teresa said there's gonna be obstacles
that are coming up, I think one of those is myself.
And so listening to what she had to say today
actually will remove that from the equation.
And I won't stop it like I've stopped this project before.
I just got the goosebumps.
You're being backed by your uncle on this.
What is it with his books?
His books are gonna be our library.
So I wish you all the best of continued luck and success.
It's gonna be phenomenal.
For my great uncle Mike to know that we are doing this camp
and we are building this library,
and it's all the more inspiring to keep going.
There is, do you have the music sheets?
Yes.
Because he keeps bringing me over to the piano,
lifting up the seat and wanting me
to look at the music sheets.
I gave all the sheet music to one of his nieces.
She specifically asked me about it
and I didn't even know it existed.
And then I found it.
So yes, I passed on the music to his niece.
So validating and supporting every choice
and decision that you have made
and that you are continuing to make.
This was more of a validation.
So know that if you choose to donate in their names
to continue the work in memory of us,
they support that decision.
Thank you.
I was left as trustee for his estate.
And even though I've had a lot of help from, you know,
cousins as far as going through things,
but I wanted to hear from uncle Mike, you know,
and I wanted approval that the way I'm handling things
is okay with him, which is exactly what Teresa confirmed.
So it's warming and it's reassuring.
It's just great.
I heard, oh, how I missed this room.
No.
I want to thank you for letting me experience
such a beautiful dwelling and to be able to feel
all the love and compassion that they had for life.
Energy does attach itself to things.
And I feel that this cleansing is to renew the energy
so a new family can come in.
We wish you all the best.
Good luck to you.
This honestly was more than just a cleansing.
They received beautiful messages.
And it's so nice to know her uncle Mike is encouraging them
to donate his belongings to a greater cause.
You have to tug it.
Yeah, they don't want you to leave.
They don't want me to leave.
It wouldn't be the first time Spirit
was trying to keep me somewhere.
