Petzl Rock Camp Sessions are developed to help educate young climbers and their parents/guardians in essential techniques for safe sport climbing, with the opportunity to grab some top tips from our staff and members of our Pro climbing team.
We're at Horseshoe Quarry in the Peak District at the first Petzl Junior Rock Camp.
These sessions are aimed at young climbers that are looking to gain essential skills
in outdoor sport climbing. We're really looking for climbers that are climbing around the sort of
6a grades, maybe a touch harder, but looking to broaden their horizons and step their level up.
Today we've got three people from Petzl. We've got Ian Dunn, who's a very experienced coach,
worked with the British Junior Team for a long time. We've got John Morgan,
experienced Petzl technician. I've got myself, working alongside Petzl.
We're looking at a whole range of equipment, things like harnesses, quickdraws, use of
quickdraws, tying through the anchor at the top, making sure you're safe. Use of helmets,
correct choice of ropes, belaying techniques, correct choice of belaying device,
route reading, making sure we can see what's coming up before we even set off.
Clip sticks as well, it's becoming an essential part of the kit we have these days.
Petzl have got quite a few of these sessions over the next year and over the coming years,
and I'm going to meet quite a lot of them, and Ian's going to meet quite a lot of them as well,
and a whole range of Petzl athletes, and hopefully we can pass on as much knowledge as we can.
