Today we are in a rural village market here in Atakame, Togo, West Africa and because of the
dry season the cost of fresh food here is alarming. I have a budget of about 20,000 francs and I want
us to go around the market and see what this amount can get us here in the rural village market.
One hundred francs for each please. I'll buy for five.
How much are you going to give me for both?
You can pay in French.
Oh, please.
4,500.
I've already paid 4,500.
I said if I give 4,500, I'll come and pay.
It's not rinsed.
Yes, I know.
I said I didn't want it.
Is it finished?
It's finished.
I said it's finished.
Yes, I said it's finished.
Okay.
So I just got some local organic chicken right here and you guys I got this for 4,500 francs.
It's not bad at all because we are in December and it gets really really pricey so I think it's a good buy for me.
I'm happy for what I got.
So I want to go keep this chicken somewhere for a while while I walk around the market.
When I'm done, I'll go get it.
This one is very good.
This is 5,700.
In French.
I'm going to buy papaya right here.
This is 250 francs.
This is 250.
This is 100 francs.
Look at how large.
For 100 francs.
And this is 100 as well.
So everything is 700 francs.
For a lot of organic juicy papaya.
Papayas here.
Do you have the big one?
Do you have it?
How much?
This is 200.
100 for 500.
Where?
Wow.
This is not 1,200.
Do you have sardines?
No, sardines.
Sardines.
Do you have sardines?
Yes.
You have to leave this here.
Hello.
Do you have tomatoes?
I'm getting these tomatoes for 2,000.
Sorry, double.
For me, sorry.
This is 300.
How much is this?
Look at green beans for 500.
