It's country number 150 and I did not plan to be here.
I woke up at 3am in Chad expecting to fly to Mali with a layover in Togo.
At the airport, the helpless ground staff held me for two hours without explaining why.
I've been waiting for so long and they don't speak English.
Finally, a lady who spoke English helped translate and said that my second leg from Lome to Bamako
was cancelled so they put me up in a hotel in Lome and on the next flight tomorrow.
Let's just say that I am thrilled to be out of Jemena, Chad.
It's my least favourite city in the world.
I am excited to randomly be spending 24 hours in Togo, my very first time in West Africa.
You come to Africa, no come to Togo, you come Africa.
I have no plan and no idea what to do so I hired a driver for the day and we're off to explore.
I'm here with my buddy Silver and we are going on a little tour around Tome man.
Yeah.
First impressions, freedom, smiling faces, positive energy,
beautiful beaches, and no police staring down at you.
This is my kind of place.
Our first stop was the fetish market.
I'm just looking.
I'm not gonna buy anything.
Which my friends Lee and Onika recommended.
To be honest, it's not really what I thought it was.
Here we have a domestic dog's head.
That's a real dog?
Yes.
Okay, what is that?
A small quantity of penis of horse.
We put in liquor like rum, gin, whiskey.
You drink it?
Yes, you can touch it.
So you drink horse penis?
Yes.
Next we headed to the sea.
Okay, we have found the lovely beach.
It's a really big open coastline.
So Benin is that way and Ghana is that way.
Not too far away from here.
A lot of people out and about.
It's beautiful out here.
We proceeded to drive around the city to visit some notable areas before satisfying our hunger.
We are stopping to get some local food for dinner.
Chicken.
That was a very enjoyable unexpected layover in Lome.
It's a really cool place.
Nice people, a lot of things to see.
Hello, bonjour.
Nice security guards.
And definitely a breath of fresh air from Chad, which I didn't enjoy at all.
And I will be back here someday.
I will definitely come back.
I didn't have enough time.
But until then, see you guys in Mali.
