AFO/WOS: Planning to be safe when in the field
The Wilson Ornithological Society and the Association of Field Ornithologists presented the second in a series of quarterly virtual events held via Zoom for grad students and early-career professionals members of either society. With field seasons rapidly approaching for many, now is the time to think about how you can make your field season as safe as possible. Our field safety virtual event includes information from experts in the field on how to pull together a field safety protocol and special safety considerations for working in rural, urban, and remote areas. We will also be joined by guest speaker Dr. Justin Doroshenko, who will talk about Wilderness Medicine and how to be prepared for medical emergencies when in the field. We hope this virtual event will provide plenty of insight and valuable resources as you plan your next field season.
Dr. Justin Doroshenko (DO, M.Ed., Paramedic, FAWM) is a Fellow in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, a graduate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and holds a Master’s Degree in Outdoor Education from Georgia College & State University. He has been involved in outdoor leadership and education for 20 years and currently serves as an instructor trainer and faculty for NOLS Wilderness Medicine and as the Director of Education for Hawk Ventures. He has also been a paramedic for 11 years with experience in both out-of-hospital and research environments.
