If you are traveling in 2025, there are some major changes and updates that you need to
know about, which I'm going to review in this video.
Number one is the Real ID.
I actually just got mine a few weeks ago, and this is for people residing in the US,
and you've probably heard about this because it's been going on for years.
They keep saying that you are going to need this in order to board a plane, and they keep
extending the deadline.
So now though, they are pretty firm that it's May 7th, 2025, that you will need this new
license to get on a plane, and this is something you have to go to the DMV and get.
Again, I just did mine a few weeks ago.
It wasn't really that big of a process, but you can also use a passport, so if you have
a valid passport, you can use that.
Now, word on the street is that they are going to extend this deadline again, but why wait?
This is something I think you should just get out of the way because eventually it's
going to be required, and again, you can use a passport.
They say you can also use your global entry card with your regular ID, but again, if I
were you, I would just go get it, get it out of the way, so you'll have it.
Number two is you can now renew your passport online.
Now, this is not something necessarily new.
They started this in the beginning of 2024, but I wanted to bring it up again.
One is to remind you to check the expiration date on your passport because most countries
will not allow you in if your passport expires within six months.
So if you want to renew it online though, there are quite a lot of requirements to qualify
to do so.
So let me go over those really quickly with you.
One is you have to be over 25 years old.
Your passport had to be issued between nine and 15 years ago.
It had to be issued when you were 16 years or older and have your current name.
So for instance, if you got married and you had all of your name changed and your passport
has your old name on it, you cannot do it online.
And currently, this is only for United States citizens.
The other big thing about this is once you start the process, your current passport is
no longer valid.
So if you want to make sure if you are going to take advantage of the online process that
you will not need your passport anytime soon.
So number three is regarding the airlines.
So you've probably seen the government is trying to hold these airlines more accountable.
And one way they are doing that is with the new law that is requiring them to give refunds
for delays and cancellations.
Now thankfully, I haven't had to experience this process, but if you have and you can
give us some feedback on that and let us know if this is really the case because it's supposed
to be a lot easier and less frustrating to get refunds, drop those in the comment section
below.
And some of the airlines are getting stricter with their carry-on sizes.
So that's just something to always look into.
I haven't seen anything necessarily yet for 2025, but it's something you always want to
check before traveling.
Now another thing they keep talking about is possibly loosening up on the restrictions
on liquids.
So now that we have this enhanced security and the better screening, they say that they're
going to allow larger liquids, more liquids, but for now it's still the 3.5 ounces in the
quart size clear bag.
This is something I will definitely keep an eye on and keep you updated on.
Another law in the U.S. that's happening for travelers is that U.S. hotels are now going
to be required to disclose all of their fees upfront.
And there's nothing more frustrating than checking out of a hotel and just getting blasted
with all of these extra fees.
So this is a very positive update and it's something you should always look for before
booking a hotel is any added costs.
Next, let's talk about European travel.
Now this is usually not my content.
Usually you're going to find me in the tropics of Mexico, Dominican Republic, but it's a
possibility that I will be going to Europe this year.
So these changes I think are the most significant and very important.
So I think one of the biggest changes are for Americans traveling to the U.K.
They now have to fill out an electronic travel authorization form, which never had to be
done before. Now, it's not the same as a visa.
The concept is kind of the same.
So the process is not as lengthy, but it's something that has to be done ahead of time,
has to be approved. There is a cost of 10 euros or about 13 U.S.
dollars. And the intention behind it is to increase security measures for anyone traveling
to the U.K. So I think even more significant is the new ETIAS system.
So this is for people going to European countries.
Again, not usually my type of content, but it's important to bring up because for
2025, travelers coming from visa free countries like the United States are now going to
have to fill this out, which they didn't have to.
It's not as lengthy of a process as a visa, but it's still an extra step.
There is a small cost.
So if you are planning that European vacation, make sure you look into this.
Now, in terms of all inclusive destinations like Mexico and Dominican Republic and
Jamaica, everything right now is status quo.
Nothing has changed. But of course, I will keep you updated if anything does.
And if you are new to my channel, three days and.
