Hey, I'm Dirty Deborah Harry with Sugar for Roller Skates and the Dirty School of Skate
and I'm here to talk about how to stop outdoors. Sure, there's plenty of ways to stop,
but seriously, there's probably like one really good way to stop outdoors so you don't kill
yourself. The scariest thing about stopping outdoors is stopping and not running into
other things, right? So let's use a plow stop. I think it's the best way to stop.
Now, most people think skating is all about your feet. Surprise! It's about your body weight.
It's about how we apply our body weight, okay? So let's go over stopping to show you how to
shift your body weight. Hopefully, you can duplicate this on your own. So here's the
deal with body weight. Tractor sands. We're just moving sand here at the beach.
We're in Long Beach, California, by the way. We're in sunny Long Beach, California, my hometown.
Back to the topic at hand, how to stop when you're skating outdoors. So you're going to skate
forward. You're going to drop down. You're going to push out and you're going to sit. Now, there's
some particulars going on here. When we drop down, it's easier if your feet are closer together. So
you're going to drop your body weight down. When you push out, you want to have your feet evenly
from your center line here. So out evenly. And then your second drop is going to put your knees
right over your big toes. All right, we're going to try one more time. So I'm going to skate forward,
down, out, sit. Now, super important part. When you do this, you cannot break at the waist,
meaning I can't go like that. Okay. Here's how I'm going to keep you from breaking at the waist.
You're going to go down, out, sit. You didn't see this, but when I sat,
pop my butt out a little bit. Okay. You have to booty pop just a little bit. So it's going to be
down, out, sit, pop. Keep those knees right over your toes. Keep your chest up straight,
shoulders straight across snack area, nice and tight. Keep your chin up. Smile to the world
and all that. Okay. One more time. Skating forward. It is down, out, sit, pop. All right.
Now, it's your job to go to practice. Okay. When you think about doing something new,
it isn't always something that you can get on the first time. You have to practice and practice
and practice. So set a goal for yourself. I'm going to do this 40 times in a row, 10 times in
a row, whatever you need to try not to be self-critical. Just go through the steps. It's
all about technique and shifting your body weight. So it is down, out, sit a little, pop your booty
out, get your knees over your big toes, keep chin up, and you're going to do just fine. Thank you
so much for watching. And if you could be a friend and subscribe to my channel, and that'll help me
produce a lot more videos for you to watch. All right. Time to go skate. Bye. And you think,
how the hell am I going to get down these stairs? The best way to do it, backwards.
Sand. No problem. Let's run.
