My Pistol Crossbow Deer Hunting Setup: Ballista Reverse
What is going on y'all? I'm back with another video and today we are taking a look at my
pistol crossbow hunting setup for deer. Deer season is just about to start up next weekend
here in Georgia. I'm super excited. Actually opening Kentucky today so good luck to anybody
who's getting out in the woods this week chasing whitetails. Super excited about this pistol
crossbow. You guys probably saw my last couple videos. I shot a turkey with the ballista bat.
This is actually called the ballista bat reverse. You can get in on that. So this one is quite a bit
different from the bat and they made some serious improvements with this one. So if you guys are
thinking about getting one strictly for hunting then I would definitely go with the bat reverse
over the bat. But as far as like hanging out in the yard, maybe shooting squirrels, small game,
turkey. I mean you guys obviously saw it work on a turkey or bow fishing. The bat would be good
but this one definitely packs a lot more punch. I'm going to show you guys. So the reason that
this one is called the reverse is because you guys can see that these limbs are reversed.
Like on the bat they're completely flipped around. It looks a lot different. If you guys
don't know what I'm talking about check out my review video or one of my hunting videos with the
regular bat. Another big difference on this one is these limbs are actually 150 pound limbs. The
come on the ballista bat are 100 pound limbs and that 50 pounds makes a big difference. I've got
the standard ballista red dot on there. You can get that on the website as well along with everything
that you need for this outfit. You guys probably see I've added a folding stock. Ballista sent me
the folding stock with this reverse and it's super sweet. It's a big step up for hunting.
All you have to do you can see that there's this little pin on the bottom. You just push that in
fold it out and then you raise the back of it up. So now you've got like full size. You can
bring it up to your shoulder. Way more stable than just using it as a pistol. So if you're
walking without a rest if you're hunting or whatever you can throw up and take a good steady
shot without having to get a rest or be on shooting sticks or anything like that.
What's so funny? You're filthy. Your arms. I didn't realize that your face
like your other arm.
I didn't realize it till now. Are you okay with it? I mean like you have black on your face. Yeah
Derek is making fun of me because I'm super dirty but I've been hanging tree stands all day and
messing around in the woods. It's kind of just a day-to-day thing so I apologize but
it's me so what are we gonna do? Anyway back to what we were talking about. The stock is super
sweet and it makes it so easy. You can still fit the crossbow in a backpack by just folding it up
but the extra stability makes it a lot more accurate especially in different hunting scenarios
so really excited about it. Now to get to what is most important essentially and that is
the arrows that I'm shooting. So these are the bolts that I'm shooting this year for hunting.
These are the ballista sting bolts that come with the crossbow for hunting. You'll also get some
practice bolts and those are good for practice obviously but you can't screw on any broadhead
or anything. That's a big advantage of these. You can put any tip you want on it. One thing that I
recommend is this silver piece. If you guys know about archery that's your insert and that's what
your broadhead screws into. These did not come on the arrows. You have to get these on the website.
They're called the ballista penetrator inserts and they're quite a bit heavier than what comes on
the just the stock bolt and that gives you a lot more weight up front and makes a huge difference
and they're a bit stronger too. I think they're 120 grain and then I've got that paired up
with a crimson talon 150 grain single bevel broadhead. My goal with this setup is getting
as much penetration as I can so that I can blow through a deer hopefully. We're going to see how
it works next weekend hopefully but that's what I've got going right there. It looks pretty dang
lethal and they shoot really good so let's get the target out, shoot a couple arrows,
show you guys what it's about. One of the best things about this setup is how easy it is to
pull it back. Right here you grab onto the handle, pull it back, that automatically puts your safety
on and you're good to go. Chickens are going crazy. Then you're going to slide your bolt
down the rail,
lock it in there and we're good to go.
Cool. All right okay let's go see what kind of damage we did. You can just see the tip of that
one and the other one is gone because it went almost all the way through the target. We're
getting some serious penetration with that. I think it's definitely going to kill a deer.
I mean that's almost equivalent to what my compound bow shoots with those same broadheads so
that's going to be awesome. Now I just have to get these bolts out of here. Set up this
jug full of water so you guys can see how much penetration we get with these broadheads
and how much flow we get. Get this camera set up. I'm going to set the GoPro up right here
so you guys get a good view. There we go. That's going to be it for this video. Just wanted to
show you guys my ballista bat reverse hunting setup, how I plan on using it. Forgot to mention
also all those shots were at 20 yards. I probably won't shoot over 25 with it. Just to be on the
safe side, you get quite a bit of drop with these heavy broadheads so I don't want to push my luck
too much. As always, thank you guys so much for watching. Hope this was helpful. If you guys don't
have a bat crossbow, get on there and buy one. They're not that expensive and you're going to
have so much fun with it. I promise you that. Thank you guys so much for watching. See you guys
hopefully next time in the deer stand.
