Alright everyone, welcome back to the channel and today we have a pretty cool video for you.
We have coach Daniel here from the Brad and Kyle membership and he is gonna be giving me a live lesson.
Now this is kind of much needed right now, you know when you're, I mean I've came to Daniel so many times
I'm just feeling a little off when I need a little something and most of the time
I just need direction because as a bowler if you don't have proper direction
I will start working on every little thing trying to fix stuff. So today Daniel's gonna give me that direction
So how we doing today? Doing great, doing great. Today
we're gonna work on something that we purposely didn't tell you about because normally when I work on this particular issue with our
amateur bowlers every day on the lanes, the wow moment is pretty wow.
So I just want to see how you do. When the bowling ball is coming forward, right?
You're at the top of the swing, your legs are flexed, your power step is your right foot driving you into the shot, right?
But the bowling ball has to come through. So that right leg has to collapse and get out of the way.
Sometimes a lot of bowlers have a tremendous amount of friction being provided from the right foot.
Okay. Our bowling shoes, as most of you know, right, they're right-handed.
So your bowling shoes are right-handed, left side slides, right side has a grip, like a tennis shoe.
Yep. That grip for a lot of bowlers can be a little much and then the right leg doesn't get out of the way
fast enough to open the window for the bowling ball to come through. Okay.
Okay, so bowling ball's top of the swing, right leg is right in the way. It has to get out of the way, right?
Right. So that's what we're gonna work on with you.
Okay. What I identified from the video that I took from you a minute ago,
if you look at your right leg right after, immediately after the power step.
So here's your power step and this is the particular moment that we're talking about right there.
Watch how hard your toes are having a hard time getting out of the way and moving to the right, this particular moment.
You can see how that right foot is just having a hard time flipping.
So what we're going to do is kind of prevent a little bit of that friction.
Yeah. Without really taking away traction.
Because you want traction on the right foot. Right.
But you want to prevent that extra friction from the very tip of the toe.
So do me a favor. Yes.
Lean on that and put your right foot up. Okay.
And I have a piece of tape. The Storm GT tape works really well for this.
We're just going to put it right here where that friction is coming from.
Huh. And have you throw a shot and let's see what you feel.
Okay. You know, it's always interesting having a lesson with Daniel because
I truly never know what we're going to be talking about.
You would have told me we're going to just be taping my right foot.
I called you crazy.
Okay. Wow.
Dude, my hips. I felt my leg just swing around so quickly.
So fast. So fast.
That was wild.
What happens is that you get rid of that little bit of friction from the tip of your toe.
Yeah. And all of a sudden,
your right leg got out of the way so fast.
Super quick. I mean, I noticed it immediately.
I just noticed the speed at which I was because I didn't have that drag holding me back.
And I still have the same force pushing my leg, you know, out to the side.
I just felt it just whip over there.
That's why I told you before we started this video that I wasn't going to tell you
what we're going to work on.
Good idea.
One of the things that you can do at home if you want to try this,
especially if you have a good pair of right-handed shoes,
and maybe you don't have the right tape to do it.
I say it in the group all the time because it's the easy way, right?
It's a little janky, but it's the easy way.
You can grab an old sock from your sock drawer and put it over your right foot.
And that will prevent that friction.
Now, beware, you got to be careful with this tip.
You saw how fast your leg flies out of the way.
Yeah, immediately because it was so fast,
it caused me to be like a little unstable because it's a brand new feeling.
So I would definitely suggest taking the first couple pretty slow.
Yeah, take the first couple of shots pretty slow.
It's important also that you realize that this is not something we should do to bowl every day,
right?
We're not asking for you to go to your league or your tournament with a sock over your right foot.
The point is you got to feel it, right?
You got to feel your right leg getting out of the way quickly and opening up that slot
for the bowling ball to come through.
I want to try another one.
You want to try another one?
Yeah, yeah.
Now that you know what you're looking for.
I have to.
Like after that first feeling, I got to see what this is all about here.
You now have a bigger window of opportunity to do what you want with the bowling ball
at the bottom of the swing because you have more space.
Yeah, that's what I'm trying to feel is like that slot.
Does that slot feel bigger and how does it feel?
You got to gain the trust of like, all right, I'm not going to fall over.
Because there's, it is crazy.
I did not think, you know, you put that on there.
I'm like, that's not going to do anything.
Like, well, what is that?
I literally thought that.
And the fact that it gets the right foot out of the way so much quicker is wow.
That's crazy.
It's kind of like the little tip I showed you before with the coins and the shoe.
But maybe that's another video for another day.
I think that's an old.
We have to leave a little bit to tease.
That's true.
But that's a really good tip.
That's a good one.
That one, we did it at the clinic was amazing.
Now, so the whole idea of getting this right leg out of the way quicker so that the ball
can fall into the slot, right?
So if this leg isn't getting out of the way fast enough, that's going to cause our
swing to have to redirect.
Essentially, you have to go around that right leg.
If it's not, you have to go around out of the way quickly.
Yeah.
Gotcha.
So that's, that's essentially what we're doing.
Mind if I try one more?
Absolutely.
I'll try to throw a good one.
Now that I got a couple in me that feel different.
We're just getting, we're creating a bigger slot at the bottom.
Wow.
Dang, dude.
I'm going to, I'm going to have to have this tape on my hand.
It was weird.
Like, I feel like here, I have just so much room to like, let my hand go through.
Such a bigger window, right?
Just a bigger window.
Like sometimes I just, it just feels like that window is very small.
Like I got to hit it just fine, but man, that leg got out of the way so much quicker.
And I just felt like this was just more room for me to just rip through the bowling ball.
It almost feels like somebody freed you up.
Yeah, no, exactly.
Absolutely.
How do you even notice these things, dude?
This is, this is why we have them around.
This is why we have them coaching people.
This is why we have them coaching us.
Just your ability to say, oh yeah, that's it.
Let's try that.
Well, there's a couple of, there's a couple of things that you got to consider.
One, you have to make changes in your game that are understandable and doable, right?
You have, it has to be something actionable, right?
I can't go to Brad and say, hey Brad, throw it like Kyle.
Or go to Kyle and say, hey, throw it like Brad.
Right.
You can't do that.
You can't revamp your entire game.
So a good trick to good coaching is you have to pick one thing that you believe you can do,
that you believe you can understand that it's positive and go master that one thing.
Then pick another one and go master that one.
I identify this one a lot like trainers at the gym, right?
A trainer at the gym will never tell you to come work your lower body and your upper body
and your abs and your cardio all in the same day.
Like that's just not going to happen.
You build it one thing at a time, one little bit at a time.
Going to the gym more often is better than going to the gym Sunday, seven hours.
Right.
So I'm going every day a little bit.
That's the same with our sport.
You want to grab one thing that is actionable, that is good for you, that you can change.
Go do that thing.
If you can, every day, 30 minutes.
Every day, 45 minutes.
You don't have to practice three hours.
Yeah.
This will definitely be a field drill thing that I'll start implementing.
It's a field thing.
Right.
Yeah.
A couple of times a week to where let me just get that feel of my right leg really getting
out of the way, space, and then take the tape off.
Try it in my actual approach and just try to replicate that feel the best I can.
Absolutely.
That's the way to go.
Well, there you have it, guys.
A live lesson with Coach Daniel here.
And guys, we are so blessed to not only have him as our coach, I have him as a coach in
the Brad and Kyle membership because I promise you, as a player, when a coach can give you
a piece of advice that you're able to really create a different feel using a piece of tape
that made me have a different feel.
Not just telling you, hey, do this.
Making you feel something different is so crucial in trying to improve your game.
Yeah.
When I'm coaching, I like to play a game of connect the dots.
Most of the time what you're doing has become subconscious.
Right.
You're not thinking about it.
So what we want to do is connect the dots.
Connect the mind to the piece of the body that we're, to the part of the body we're
working with.
And being able to connect those two really helps you identify where is it that you need
to be working on and where to feel it.
Sometimes tape, sometimes a towel, sometimes a weight on the left wrist.
Yeah.
Remember, Brad?
Those type of things really help.
No, absolutely.
Using some props and creating those different feels is huge.
