"Here's a look inside the Ford HF-35 transmission and how it works!

This transmission was from a 2014 Ford Fusion with almost 300,000km on it. The transmission is an eCVT, meaning it pairs two electric motors in a parallel axis setup with a power split device. The planetary gearset connects the starter motor (MG1) to the internal combustion engine and the traction motor (MG2). MG2 is linked through a countergear that is always driving the wheels.

Common failures on these transmissions are the bearings for the supporting gears, axles and motor rotors going bad due to a lack of lubrication. If caught early, the transmission's wear points can be rebuilt before further damage to the motor's rotors and stators (as seen in this video) or the transmission casing are done."
