Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey Explain How They Met | Glamour

I'm Matthew McConaughey. Hi, I'm Anne Hathaway. And you're about to hear how we did not meet. That's not how we met. That's definitely not how we met. That's not how we met. I knew who Anne Hathaway was before we met. Oh, yes. I've known who Matthew McConaughey was for a very long time. The last time I'd seen you was on the red carpet of the Critics' Choice Awards. And you had just finished Dallas Buyers Club. Matthew McConaughey, it's about time you knew. I'm a big fan. Not really. He blew my mind the first time I met him. Because we were just there testing the camera stuff. Here's the costume, and I do a circle. And then here's the profile, and here's the profile. Pretty sure it was on the set of Interstellar. Probably in a spaceship. Matthew gets on set, and he gets down on the floor. And he turns away from camera, and they yell, action. And he comes up, and he's in a different atmosphere than everybody else. And he's walking, and no one knows what he's doing. But I'm going, oh my gosh, he's taking advantage of every second he has to get to know this character. I said I believe it was probably on a spaceship. Mm-hmm. Of sorts. We met during the costume test for Interstellar. On the spaceship. There was no spaceship yet, but there was one in your mind. I watched you walk around it. I was very impressed, because I thought you were like, you were finding your man. Man, I might have been. I might have just been trying to see how much I could move in that damn spaceship. That was the first time we talked and connected to each other. The scene in Interstellar when I take us to the water planet, we had to find together in real time. It was a scene full of a lot of anger, a lot of rage. And I remember looking up and finding his eyes, and him finding mine. And we didn't say it, but the vibe was, that was cool. I don't remember a moment. Dazed and Confused was really big amongst my friends. And then A Time to Kill came out. I really loved him in that movie. I remember him from Contact. When you first found out who she was, maybe the first movie you saw that she was in. I don't remember what that was. And then I really feel like I got to know the Matthew that I now know when I saw Magic Mike. This is such an interrogation. I get older and they stay the same age. I remember that and going, huh. My friends and I were very dazed and confused. And I remember being confused by your mustache. Yes, that was a confusing mustache. Tell her I know where it wasn't. Don't make me relive it. Matthew and Camilla threw a party, and I got the date wrong. You were heading out of town? And I show up and there's no one there, and I'm going, oh, are we early? Like, that's weird. It was yesterday. The party was last night. And I, of course, you know, it's like you want to faint. You were so gracious. My birthday party's not over yet, so come on in. Let's open that bottle and we continue to party well until November the 6th. It turned into a nine-hour hang. There was a birthday party. We went to a birthday party. No, I just said that to make you feel better. There wasn't really a birthday party. I feel like fire ants are biting my digestive tract right now. No, it turned into it. We made that into lemonade like that. The longer we know each other, the more kind of adventures we get to go on together. We stayed in contact between Interstellar and Serenity. I was so excited when I read the script because they were asking me to be a part of it. Yeah, but I was also like, Matthew's just going to be so good in this. We went to her for the role of Karen, and when she said yes, I was very excited because I was excited to work with her again. I loved my character, but a huge part of why I said yes was just to get to go work with Matthew again. What we did is we gradually got to know each other through the work. We started spending time together. He's charming. He's gregarious. So I got to see how she worked. I got to see how much more professional that she is, how prepared she was when she showed up to set. I guess one of my favorite things about Matthew is how intentionally he's living his life. She was very supportive from the very beginning, and I hope I was to her. Kindness. He's generous. He's professional. He's profound. He's poetic. And we had some more of those good late weekend nights. They were fun, but they weren't my birthday or the day after my birthday. I'm really happy that we've got a good thing going. I don't remember the first role that I saw her in. If that's what I said and he was so happy, I'd just say that again. See, you do remember so many more things. Good things, too. You're a significant presence in my life. It's okay that I'm not in yours. It's fine. I knew all of this deep down. It's just nice to have it out on the table.
