I went hiking into the national forest to find the perfect wild Christmas tree! This is the first ever Miranda Goes Outside holiday special! 🎄 Harvesting a wild tree from the national forest is a time honored tradition in the Pacific Northwest, but it's relatively new tradition for me. Truth be told I am not a big Christmas person, and so celebrating the holiday wasn't always a big enough deal for me to worry about any kind of Christmas tree, let alone a wild one. But my producer Rainer and my editor and videographer Abby both adore Christmas, and so this year we decided to head out into a remote forest in Washington State together to hunt for the perfect tree to take home and decorate. It's the start of a new outdoorsy Christmas tradition that just might make me love Christmas after all! Also in this video I'll reflect a bit on what I'm proudest of in 2024, as well as look forward to exciting things coming 2025. Happy Holidays and all my love to you all!
Welcome to the first Christmas special of Miranda Goes Outside.
In this video, I have taken you all to the Okanagan-Wanachi National Forest to look for the perfect Christmas tree.
Wow, it could be this one. This has a very Christmas atmosphere.
It is a tradition consecrated in the national forests to go on an excursion to the forest and then cut down your own tree.
So I have come here with a saw, a permission for Christmas trees of $ 5 and two of my best friends and co-workers, Rainer and Abby,
and we are going to look for the perfect tree, cut it down, take it home, decorate it and then we will talk a little about our year on YouTube,
as well as what you can expect from the channel next year.
Great!
I think of the nervous eruptions. Holidays make me erupt.
This is my program.
Oh my!
Before we start our search for the perfect Christmas tree, we have to decide what makes it a perfect tree.
Do we agree on what the perfect tree is?
This seems like a good time to admit that I haven't had a real Christmas tree for most of my life.
I think my idea of a perfect Christmas tree is, maybe, a little, I don't know, I guess a tree, you know.
It has to be just a tree.
Just a tree.
Yes, okay, we need more standards than this.
Not for fans.
If I think of a Christmas tree in my brain or if I go to a store, I can imagine a Christmas tree of, you know, six feet tall.
Pretty, voluminous and strong.
How?
I feel like you're describing a man.
Yes, this is not Tinder, you're slipping your finger.
This is your Tinder profile.
My perfect Christmas tree is, yes, six feet tall, voluminous and strong.
We have to be more technical with this language.
I'm saying it's fine and that it has a good height, not too high, not too low.
So six feet.
Good.
It really seems like we're alone.
Abby, help me.
We need, we need to have an adequate density of branches.
Yes, okay, yes.
That's what you don't want to see through the tree.
Yes, okay, yes.
A good height.
Yes.
Adequate density of branches.
Yes.
All in capital letters.
It's actually an acronym.
A.
B. D.
D, A, B, D.
And then the other would be a sufficiently aesthetic conical shape.
Yes.
Symmetry.
Okay.
All that sounds good.
But I also think that something that matters to me is that it has to be a little peculiar.
Yes.
That is our criterion for the perfect Christmas tree.
But according to the national forest, it has to be less than 15 feet high.
Yes.
And in the terrain of the national forest.
What is where we are?
Let the search for the Christmas tree begin.
Oh, let's go to that little group.
Look who's here.
Wow.
Hurray.
To the perfect tree house.
Oh, guys.
What about this one?
It's a little scarce.
It's also very high.
Oh, but there's one right there.
Rain.
Do you want to see that little group here?
And I'll look at this one.
I'm going over there.
Okay.
This is pretty pretty.
It's also very high.
Be.
Really?
Yes.
It's almost twice as high as you.
Question mark.
Really?
No.
This was a little higher than me.
Dude.
Oh.
Are they all too high here?
No.
Okay.
Crunchy.
Here we go.
This is the type of snow that I like the least.
It's actually pretty pretty.
You have to be able to.
Ornaments, you know?
You have to have that kind of robust qualities to wear ornaments.
Point.
I think robust qualities to wear ornaments.
Acronym of that.
Question mark.
Are you realizing how ridiculous our needs are?
On the contrary.
This is a very serious matter.
Christmas.
It's ridiculous.
How dare you?
That's how you can differentiate someone who loves Christmas from someone who doesn't like it that much.
Oh, wait.
Over there.
Don't run with saws, kids.
For anyone who is watching this video and thinking.
Oh, my God.
Miranda.
I can't believe you.
That you preach that you don't have to leave a trace and you talk about the importance of the conservation of open air spaces.
Go cut down a Christmas tree.
In reality, cutting down a tree is something that is not only allowed in national forests, but is encouraged.
When I first heard about cutting down your own Christmas tree, I talked to the forest guards at our local station and thought.
How is it possible that this is allowed?
So, by cutting them down in winter, we are benefiting the forest itself, which is great.
And cutting down a tree, whenever it is allowed and done correctly, is a very good thing.
Okay, I get off my pedestal.
I see two trees that interest me a lot.
The first one I want to start with is here alone.
Up, up and beyond.
Ah, yes.
The shape is not quite correct, but I think there is something better.
Ah, but there is another one right there.
Oh, I like this one.
I like this tree.
Listen to me.
I know it's too high for our house, but the branches don't start up to 45 centimeters high.
It would probably start much higher, you know?
It's very pretty and dense on this side.
It's not as dense on the back, but it's okay because it will go against a wall.
It's very good, it's definitely a candidate.
But before we commit, you never buy the first thing you see on the market.
Yes, you never marry your first boyfriend.
Some people do.
You're right, it's a bad example.
Yes, of course, you never buy your first car.
Never, it doesn't matter, forget it.
You have to...
Compare prices.
You're not going to Tiffany's, you know, and...
Not us, us, Rainer and I.
Obviously, we've never bought anything in our lives.
No, we don't understand the concept of analogy.
We don't get it or commit.
Apparently, so this one.
It's a, maybe, this is a, maybe, difficult.
This is a, maybe, difficult.
I love it, we'll keep looking.
Question mark.
You know that in house centers they give each one a nickname?
What is the nickname of this one?
What defines it?
Question mark sign.
It's tall, but promising.
Tall, but promising.
That's good.
Okay, great.
Yes, well, we'll go back to this one.
This one is good.
Let's take a look there.
Tall, but promising.
Maybe we'll come back for you.
Wow, these trees are also very pretty.
Wow, friends.
A very small baby.
It's very small, right?
Yes, it's very small.
Oh, wait.
Oh, you're looking at those thighs with the dark trunk.
Yes, it's thick.
Oh, it's a lady.
It could be this.
Okay, let's see it.
This looks very Christmas.
Oh, that's robust.
Quality to wear ornaments.
Well, this tree we just found here is a balsam tree, which is a little different from these other skin trees we've been seeing.
But the balsam tree, I'm pretty sure it's this one, has more robust branches.
It's dark green and has a very dense growth that makes it perfect for hanging Christmas ornaments.
I could be wrong, but the balsam tree has two white bands under its needles.
They have these little discs where the pine needles connect.
So yes, I think we should look for more balsam trees if we can.
This one itself is quite perfect.
I just want to see if there are others around here.
I think this tree is definitely a candidate.
Question mark.
How was it? Tall and promising.
Tall and promising.
And this one is?
Well, right now it's like a needle in a haystack because it's unique here, but it's perfect.
What I love about this tree is that it has very dense branches.
It's very resistant, so I feel like it has a lot of ornaments.
What I don't like is that the back is quite naked and it's quite empty in this middle section here.
And now let's see if we can find another tree just in case before making a decision.
I feel like we found two very good options for trees and I like them a lot.
But one thing that I have always loved about Christmas trees is that they are a little smaller and denser and more robust.
So, although I said I wanted a tree that was taller than me,
I want to see if I can find a tree that is a little smaller and maybe more compact.
As a third option, this tree has a trunk that comes out of the tree.
Oh, I think I see one I like.
Maybe not, it's too big out there.
Yes. Okay, let's do it.
What happens with all these trees is that, from a distance, I think, oh, my God, it's perfect.
As we get closer, I think, oh, I don't know.
Maybe this one is perfect.
Oh, maybe not.
No. Wow, wow. What a disappointment.
From a distance, this tree seemed perfect.
Of course, this is a fantastic tree for the forest, but not for a Christmas tree.
Whatever. I thought that was it.
Oh, wait. We just passed through the national forest.
The national forest is over there, so it doesn't matter.
Okay.
Oh, yes.
Oh, okay. Wait. What about this one?
Sure.
It's not perfect, but it's resistant.
It's definitely not too tall. It has a...
Even shape.
Exactly. Yes, yes, yes.
But it's pretty, right? My only concern is that it's a little dead down here. I like it.
There's not a single angle from which to walk around it.
Yes.
It doesn't look good.
Right?
It's like walking and having a 360-degree attraction.
It has it.
Which is another official term for Christmas trees.
Number three.
Yes. I think number three.
A 360-degree attraction.
Now we have three trees that we like.
Yes. The...
Tree number one was tall. Tall, but promising.
It had a good shape. It had a...
Branch density was pretty good, but it was a little too tall.
Then there was Nidolina Haystack. Really dense.
Great color.
Good size too. A little wide.
As much as I like it. Tall, but promising. I think that would be the first one I would get.
Promising Workshop is gone. So it's tree number two.
Or tree.
Entrance three.
I'm going to take another look at Nidoland Haystack to refresh my memory.
Okay.
Yes, of course.
This is it.
This is going to be what we're looking for.
100%.
It's great.
Now comes the fun part.
Let's clean up a little.
It smells really good.
Yes.
Great.
Period.
Very good, colleague.
You got it.
Tree brainer.
If you want to come to...
This.
If you can hold it in half.
There you have it.
Period.
You got it.
That was...
Good job, team.
You got it.
Yes.
I turn. I turn to this side.
Okay.
Ready?
Oprah is stuck.
Whoa.
Okay.
Ready?
Go.
Okay.
Let's leave it.
Okay.
We got it.
It was a hard job.
Period.
Yes.
It's very funny.
It's as if now that we've cut down a tree,
my brain lover of outdoor activities would say,
Oh, my God, what have we done?
I have to remind myself that this is allowed whenever you have permission.
Speaking of permissions, let's put that thing on our tree.
Ta.
Roll this around the top.
Boom.
Exciting.
Take this robust teacher home.
Here we go.
Ah, this is like a matter of blind faith right now.
I can't see anything except pine needles.
It's like smelling pine needles.
Oh, yes.
I see your car.
It should be fine.
It's there.
Yes.
Great.
It's pretty safe.
I hope so.
Go ahead.
Merry Christmas.
Cheers.
Very good.
I'm getting infected with the Christmas spirit.
Yes, I understand.
I'm not a big fan of parties or I haven't been a big fan of them.
It's a little hard for me.
It's emotional.
These two fools, Abig and Rainer, love Christmas.
And since I met them, they've been trying to convince me that it's fun,
and I have to say that it's starting to work for me.
It's like I'm starting to fall in love a little.
Now that we've found our perfect giant Christmas tree,
it's time to go home and decorate it.
Coco.
Cheers.
And let's get out of here.
Skull or Prost.
Or cheers.
I don't know.
Christmas.
Wow.
It looks like you want ornaments or help me untangle the lights.
Help me untangle the lights.
Quick break.
I'm here in our studio with Abig and Rainer.
Hi.
And Tucker Dog.
I just wanted to take a moment to thank the sponsor of today's video.
Actually, it's a company that you've all heard of before, and it's called Gem Vitamins.
Gem Bites are real food bites made of things like dates, coconut, turmeric, mushrooms,
foods with which you are probably very familiar, and ingredients that you can pronounce very easily.
But what makes Gem special is that all those ingredients come together in a formula
As you all know, I've been through a lot of health changes this year and multivitamins have been a way to help my body and my health.
If you want to try Gem, you can go to dailygim.com-mirandaoutdoor and use the code MirandaGoesOutside and get a 50% discount on your first month.
So, if you're interested in multivitamins, I would definitely recommend Gem over any other you've tried.
Me gusta.
No.
Esto necesita luces.
Vale.
Aquí necesita luces.
Lo.
Se.
Me.
Gusta.
Me parece tan encantador.
Feliz navidad.
Ahora sí que tenemos navidad.
Navidad que tuvimos el año pasado.
