How to throw a teapot

Okay, today I'm going to show you how to throw a teapot.
For the body I've got two pounds of clay, so I'm going to centre it on the wheel.
The knuckle on the outside is grabbing as much clay as I can to make her into like a tall cylinder.
I'll flatten the top where the lid is going to go and I'll bring her up one more time.
So I'll get my knuckle right to the bottom and just slowly come up the outside of the pot.
And I'm going to flatten off the top again and this time I'm going to take an old credit card
that I've cut down and I'm just going to put it on the rim like that and I'm going to split the
split the rim and form what we call an external gallery on the outside.
So there you go and I'll just round off the rim of the external gallery
and then I'm going to get my hand on the inside again and I'm going to slowly
start to form the shape. I'm going to try and give it a little bit of belly,
just using my knuckle. I'll go for my fingertips this time, so I get my fingertips to the bottom
and just slowly come up and just push it out a little bit so it kind of forms more
into a teapot shape. I'm going to start to tease the outside gallery so it forms an
internal gallery. Can you see that? I've only got my fingers on the inside now,
so I'll get them as far down as I can and just slowly bring them up the shoulder
and again just gently teasing the gallery inwards. I'll just take the water off the
gallery and just tidy it up a little bit using my fingernail. Okay, I'll get my finger in again,
just bring the shoulder up one more time, take the water off the outside, take away
some weight from the bottom using the turning tool and then using the sponge on a stick tool,
I'll get the water out the inside. So that forms the body of the teapot which looks like that.
Okay, so next I'm going to form the lid. So I'm just going to
take a pair of calipers and I'm going to measure them on the inside
and I'm taking six ounces of clay now and I'll centre that up
down slightly off centre like that and I'm going to form a small pot in the middle just by doing
that and bringing it in. Bring it in onto itself so it kind of forms a knob.
Just grab it at the bottom and just bring it up a little bit like that. On the outside,
take away some of the weight from down here because it's easy to get to now.
Cut some off because I know it's quite a tight diameter, so I'll take some off to begin with
before I bring it out and now I'll bring the wall out.
I'll just check the calipers and I need to take off a fair bit.
That's about right and just get the water out of the channel in between the knob and the rim.
Okay, so that is going to be the lid for this teapot.
Okay, finally the final part of the equation is the spout and spouts are pretty easy really. So
again I've got another six ounces of clay there. It doesn't need a base with it being a spout
and just slowly bring it in and just bring it up until you get like a volcano shape.
I'm just going to grab some weight at the bottom using my fingertips and just slowly
take it up to the rim like that and then I'm going to collar it in
what I want. So I'm going to cut it down a little bit.
Again I'm just going to bring it up a little bit more and just look at the shape on the outside as
I'm doing it. Take away some of the weight from the base, sponge her over, take her off, empty out
the water. So that is going to be the spout for the teapot. So it's going to go on there like that
and the lid is going to go on there like that and in another video I'm going to show you how to stick
them all together. Thank you for watching.
