what if someone came to you and asked
you to make a custom wrap Tumblr with
their logo or their artwork don't sleep
on
canva what is up welcome back do you
like to do it build it or make it so do
we and we have new videos each week to
show you how to make your own seamless
patterns for tumblers using any artwork
in only canva yes these patterns are
going to wrap from in to end you won't
know where they stop and start we are
Kim and Garrett of Kim and Garrett
making that's our YouTube channel each
week we show you a laser craft project
that you can make and sell with your
laser and this week we're going to show
you what you could do with canva we use
canva every day in our business and
today we're going to show you how to use
canva to create your own seamless
pattern now we know we can purchase and
download designs from anywhere but then
you're stuck with those designs what if
somebody comes to you and wants their
own design or a custom design and they
want it to be seamless you could
probably scatter some images around and
make it look seamless you could probably
just throw their logo up on the front
and Scatter some other stuff around make
it look seamless you want to give them
the wow factor of giving them a seamless
wrap tumbler and just taking it to the
next level and we're going to show you
how to do this in canva we're going to
show you some pretty cool tips and
tricks on how to create your pattern and
then turn around from that replicate it
and create two or three different
patterns with more
detail step one we're going to gather
all of our supplies we needed a tumbler
because we're making tumblers and then
we needed some masking tape to do some
testing so we don't mess up our one
tumbler that we have and that is it step
two we're going to make our design and
I'm going to meet you over in canva here
we are in canva if you've watched our
videos we always say don't sleep on
canva it is a powerful tool for your
crafts and your business we recently
created a series of videos on how to
create your and set up your brand
profile and how to create several
promotional materials right in canva but
today we're going to show you how to
create that seamless wrap tumbler so
let's start with creating a
design we usually start with poster this
landscape view here this is almost
always what we start out with with a
blank design
and the first thing we're going to do is
change the size of our workspace here to
match the size of our tumbler so we're
going to do this by clicking on
resize and we're going to say custom
size here 10.

here we
are the next thing we're going to do is
just add some elements to our canvas I
know we're doing a Christmas design and
I've already done a rough draft of this
so here in my recently used are the
images that I'm going to use for this
seamless wrap tumbler so I'm just going
to grab them and add them to our canvas
here did that one this one
[Music]
this
one this one and this
one I think that's what we're going to
go with for now the next thing we're
going to do is start setting this up so
that we can have it be a repeating
pattern so the first thing we're going
to do is we're going to take our one of
our Christmas trees
and let me move this out the way and
start the repeating process so the way
this is going to work is you're going
to put half of an image on one side and
the other half of the image on the other
side and if you think of this as how it
will wrap around your tumbler you will
see that this side of the Christmas tree
I'm going to hold the ALT key and
duplicate this will if I put this on
half see that purple line now you know
you're right in the center of the tree
now this half will match with this half
if this wraps around the tumbler so
that's how we're going to start our
seamless pattern the other thing you're
going to want to do is in order for them
to match you're want to make sure that
they are aligned bottom which they are
otherwise this image would be uh or this
selection would be highlighted so
they're already aligned with one another
now we know that if this thing were to
wrap these two would match now in order
to make a seamless p pattern it not only
has to wrap on the sides but it also has
to wrap on the top and the bottom so
let's start creating some of our wrapped
trees for the top and the
bottom so we're going to put one of them
here again do you see the purple line at
the top here now you know you you've got
the bottom half of the tree right in the
center right in half I'm going to hold
the ALT key and I'm going to drag it
down below and I'm going to put the top
half on the
bottom again I'm looking for that purple
line there it is so now I have top
bottom and I want to hold the shift key
select them
both
align left and right so I want to make
sure that they are perfectly vertical
with one another and on Center so here
because the Align left align Center none
of these options are highlighted it
means there're are already in line with
each other now we're going to pick
another tree
and do that right here I'm going to put
four across the
top so there we are hold the ALT key
drag it
down and there it is at the
bottom again I'm going to make sure
they're
aligned and because they weren't
selected they're good to go
I'm going to choose the next
tree alt drag it
down I'm going to set this one off a
little so that you can see I'm going to
hit the shift key select them both and
again I'm going to say align left now we
know we've got them exactly aligned with
each other and then I'm going to move
them over a
little yeah
and then our last
tree I'm going to put this one up
here there we
are all right and now I'm going to put
some right in the middle so this is just
going to be
a bunch of Christmas
trees now if I were to wrap this it's
going to be a little bit boring because
there's going to be a lot of white space
here so I'm going to add some elements
to kind of keep it interesting so I'm
going to throw in this little
present and these things are just going
to be
fillers and a
star going to go ahead and convert that
to Black
now I'm going to go ahead and just fill
in all the white space with different
size presents and stars just to kind of
keep uh a seamless pattern make it look
like it's random but filling in some of
that space
now as I finish up the little adding the
filler in here I do want to think about
all right let me look at this right side
if it matches over here with the left
side what are these stars and the
presents going to look like as they wrap
together so I think I'm gonna bring this
together because there's a present on
this side I'm gonna
again I'm just holding the ALT key and
it'll replicate my image put a star here
and now I think that looks pretty
good I see now these two persons are
going to be side by side let me add a
little star over
here now this looks great so the next
step we're going to do is we now have a
seamless pattern if we match them left
to right or top to bottom
everything is going to line up perfectly
so our next step and this is where it
gets pretty cool is we're going to
export this from
canva I'm going to export it as a
PNG so we're going to download PNG
transparent background hit
download it's doing its thing we're
going to go over here to uploads and
we're going to upload this image
oh that's not what we're doing we're
going to just hit upload
files and here's the one we just
did now I'm going to add
another page to this design file and
then I'm going to import our image this
is what we just created so that looks
great now we're going to duplicate it
I'm going to show you how this is going
to wrap so we're going to resize our
image and make sure it is just one
fourth of the page so again we're
looking for those purple lines here you
can see I've got the center purple line
and it's going to be the same for
horizontally it's perfectly in that top
left quadrant now I'm going to hold the
ALT key and I'm going to duplicate our
image and look at that it matches up
perfectly now I'm going to select shift
select both of these hold the ALT key
and now look
oh wait a
minute so this is great example for you
you can see here I must not have had
this one lined up perfectly because my
tree looks a little wonky but what we
can do is we'll just delete these and
we're going to go back and fix it and
reimport so this one and this
[Music]
one align left they were not aligned
with one another and now I'm just going
to group them that'll make things
easier I have already grouped
these let me just make sure this is half
and half again looks
good looks
good they're aligned so I'm going to go
ahead and group
them now I have grouped everything else
already the other thing I was going to
share is now that they are grouped if
you move them left and right you're
still going to have your seamless
pattern so however far right I move this
one this one will also shift right and
they will still wrap at the same point
so they don't have to stay half and half
on the wrap now they can be off centered
so you may have a design where you want
to offc center it but as long as you now
have them grouped and they're grouped
together you can move them left and
right together and they will shift and
always still come together with a
perfect
wrap so let's do our export
again PNG transparent
download and exported as a zip file so
I'm going to unzip it
and hit
refresh there it is
21 and we're using page one CU I haven't
created page two
yet there's our image we're going to go
over to page two here slide this over
and now we're going to show you how this
can wrap again so we're going to put
this in the top left quadrant make sure
that you're getting at least one of the
purple lines there it is left and right
again I'm going to
hold I'm going to hold the ALT key and
I'm going to duplicate
it and then I'm going to hold shift
select both of them the ALT key to
duplicate and yay look at that we
finally have a seamless wrap pattern so
look at how you can duplicate one
image that's kind of spaced out a little
bit sparse full enough but look how you
now can duplicate it and make it a full
wrap tumbler now again as this wraps
you'll be able to uh match both sides
and on a tumbler tops and bottoms won't
really matter but if you wanted to do
this one more time you can do this again
and Export this image let's show you
real
quick we'll export it one more
time 22 we're going to go over here and
upload our
files extract
all it prompts you with this little
thing here so we're going to hit
extract there it is we're going to open
22 open p need to now because we're
going to duplicate this
one so you can see this was our first
image this is our second image add a
page it's coming into the same size as
the others I'm going to put this image
on our
screen top left
quadrant make sure it's exactly half
again ALT
key ALT key and now you've wrapped it
again again so this is now eight images
on one so there is our
original here is
our duplicated four times and here it is
duplicated eight times isn't that so
cool I love this I love this option and
I think this is great if someone gives
you their custom artwork you're now able
to create a seamless wrap tumbler with
their
artwork and not everybody can do that
step three time to to engrave we only
have one red cup so we need a stunt cup
just to make sure that our seam actually
lines up without ruining our cup we wrap
this tumbler in the painters tape we're
going to run it around and make sure the
seam looks seamless you won't even be
able to tell before we run our one rud
cup through now this is an old Cup this
is a cup that's got a messed up image on
it we just keep using it over and over
again we'll put fresh tape on it we'll
do with test image especially if we're
creating a new design like we did today
we'll do a quick test and we make sure
everything looks good and that way I can
use it as a test cap over and over again
it that this cup has seen some things
[Music]
so we've completed our test cup and I
can see that my image doesn't meet by
the tiniest sliver so I am going to
increase the length by
0.16 So currently I have it at
10.87 I'm going to change it to
10.8 86 so just a little bit to push it
together and I'm only using that amount
because Garrett had run a tumbler a
couple of weeks ago and that's the
setting he used and it came out perfect
so I'm just going to lengthen my image a
little bit and
now I'm confident we can run it on the
red Tumblr so
[Music]
confident the Tumblr turned out great I
can't even find the seam Kim did a great
job great job Kim I love this seamless
pattern trick in canva I think it is
super cool and you don't have to just
use this on tumblers you can use this in
sublimation you can put this on lots of
different things uh bags and towels and
totes and
t-shirts oh you can upload this to
something like Amazon merch on demand or
printful and then you can print it on
things like popsockets and phone cases
there's just lots of different uses for
this so if you're making some custom
design with somebody's logo you can do
all kinds of products and I love doing
this stuff in canva we just did a whole
series of canva videos on how to create
your brand profile in canva how to
create promotional materials like
postcards and flyers there's lots of
different things you can do with canva
not just making patterns and Designs we
always say don't sleep on canva it is
way too powerful to not include Into
