Saturday we had three male Alpine goats arrive here on the farm. They will likely be rehomed and we have a number of farms that will take them, however we may need to wait until spring. We go over the cat litter situation and how we manage 9 cats in our home. #blackcats#alpinegoats#farmvlog#farmlife

job Mark and Tera here and welcome to
the 10 Acre Woods it is uh little bit of
uh yeah Misty raining some ice rain
close to
0° uh we have some newbies that came in
yesterday so three boys three goats
Alpine cross like well French they look
like French Alpine we say cross cuz you
can't guarantee that they are full but
that's what they look like they're an
Alpine goat so the Alpine goat is a
little bit higher what are they 30 32 3
well 30 to 32 for the boys
yeah uh to the withers and then pygmy
goats are roughly around 20 I believe it
is so the three boys came in from Animal
Control and they were dropped off
yesterday and they are up for adoption
so we will likely not keep these ones uh
they will probably be rehomed so I think
Tara has put out there on Facebook uh
looking for some homes who knows how
long we'll have them here for uh this is
a strange time of year to be rehoming
animals because a lot of people are
thinking spring well you know maybe
Springtime it's winter now we're not
ready to take on any new ones so we'll
see how things go anyway we'll keep you
updated on that uh and we're going to go
feed the
ponies morning
astred good
morning ah there 's Levi Meadow can't be
too far
behind where's your daughter is she in
there ah there she is she's finishing
off uh yesterday's meal it
seems well it's important at this time
of year with how cold it gets that they
have 247 hay to eat yeah cuz when when
animals chew them warm yeah chewing
keeps you warm
so the other thing we have to look at
with the warmer weather is some
hay so the Hay's down to looks like
about halfway a little more than halfway
in this
building and uh we'll uh take advantage
of the warmer weather yeah this one I
don't have to worry about till uh yeah
it's not too bad it's the ones inside
for the I like it now because by the
time cuz we' stacked this right full
yeah by the time this comes
usually about six weeks because Sherry
the faer comes so now I won't fill this
one we'll keep using this because when
she comes we'll have a spot out of the
weather to bring them in if we need
to so so the humans are in the not in
the wind
or you know so this won't be filled till
look at all your poop spots yeah just
everywhere
he
good
girl got your hey
[Applause]
[Applause]
[Applause]
[Applause]
a
[Laughter]
hi
Charlie hi
Charlie sure I do it
[Applause]
right empty
[Applause]
[Applause]
[Applause]
up
[Laughter]
good
morning Tucker
onx Bo smell my goat yeah well I could
smell it yesterday when they came in
smell the boys here they
are good morning boys how was your first
night
yeah so we put up this extra railing
here because they are a larger
goat and uh well they we were concerned
they could jump out
so so that's what that's for safe and S
yeah
oh yeah looks like you guys finished off
most of your hay from yesterday they
were hungry
boys so apparently they were under wait
they've been uh they've been under the
care uh of the provincial vet for I
think 3 months so but they're uh doing
good they're hungry they eat a lot for
sure those are
water yeah and water's
good so to get an
idea these are py mik
and these kids are maybe a month younger
than the three boys so you can really
see the uh the difference they were born
in April in
size were they both born around the same
time then these guys were born in May oh
and these guys were born in April yeah
so these guys are actually a month
older uh so okay yeah that does make
sense but you can see uh you can see the
difference totally up for suggestion two
twins yeah we don't have any
names I was like The Three Amigos The
Three Amigos one of them has uh has
white on the side and we were trying to
uh differentiate the uh the markings
between the you can see the front lights
he's this first one has Brakes in the
black oh right one in the back doesn't
Okay okay so we call this one
knees right are you knees actually the
other one's got brakes as well but it's
got the white so the other boy doesn't
oh yeah the other boy doesn't have the
brakes
okay good all right so that's the uh the
difference one has
white and out of the other two one has
breaks in the knees and the other one
has
uh full black right
through uh so these boys are
intact and uh we've got uh got a few
people that are interested so we'll see
how things
go okay what is this is this the egg
alarm should I check for eggs is that
what you're telling me they're on St
yeah they're on strike there shouldn't
be any eggs no there's no
eggs yeah there's no
eggs don't worry about it you can take
the uh the next couple months
off says come check our eggs nothing on
the ground sometimes you find them on
the ground yeah yeah so the ladies are
uh are taking a break we've cut down the
uh the quote unquote Sunshine the uh the
lighting that is on here is uh left
than uh I think we've only got it on for
10
hours so of course they'll go into uh
generally they go into a mol uh this
time of year um and their egg you can
see the the feathers down here the egg
production drops off when they do go
into and of course that one doesn't lay
eggs there's another
one uh right
there Jimmy and
rod rod and Jimmy
I'm
coming oh Bey and Piper already in
okay having their breakfast what what is
it what is it are you
curious what's going on over there
they've been keeping us up all
night no no no no nothing to see here
jeez you
guys yeah go get some hay
they want a pumpkin cuz I've gone down
to every second day now oh yeah so hi
Tinker they didn't get it
yesterday says where's the pumpkin must
have the
pumpkin
yeah oh they
know they
know so we know you have it in there
come on
out go oh
[Applause]
Peas I know sh you don't even like
chaos yeah yeah need to buy some time
now says what the heck is this
stuff throw us some seeds
there we go the chickens like them and
of course Charlie well once he's done
with he's doing hi Sheldon what are you
doing just wandering around without a
care in the
world right not a care in the
world oh yes here's zilly
boy aren't you aren't you Sheldon
okay you going to eat
that what are you doing you're
silly
silly all right looks like you guys are
done
sorry oh oh you're going to get the the
inside
treats take it with you yeah
take drop the piece you want that
Onyx
no
here what's this
here we throw it down there you
go they're like what is this strange
substance see it smells interesting but
I don't know what it is
right now just stick with the hay
all right so some people may wonder why
uh quarantine is not that particular
with these guys um that's because they
were quarantined where they were for 3
months so they've both been they've been
deloused and dewormed and treated and
all that kind of stuff so um and they
know our facility so that's why they're
good to go when they come
here had they been from somewhere
strange or just broughten
in then we would quarantine them a lot
better the smell of
pumpkin can't smell going to take that
oh right yeah you're you're a little
under the weather and your taste and
smell are off I know I can't even taste
sugar which
sucks my
coffee yeah we were going to maybe
sharpen that knife well you know what I
mean Kudos is Betty Crocker is that what
it is it's a Betty Crocker Betty Crocker
this dollar store so it's made for
cutting
cakes this knife has been out here for
six
years it has done all of our cutting out
here and I have never sharpened it we
should probably bring we've got enough
sharpeners inside we can probably bring
one out and have
it have it out
here so who those Betty Crocker
there's turbo there I walk past
him
Charlie yeah Charlie get his
[Music]
let's it turbo it's on the ground
there's nothing in theet anymore
goo weren't you the one wanting the
pumpkins ronin's enjoying
them so is everyone
else so we're back in the house and we
thought we would uh go over
some of the uh the litter setup that we
have here for our cats are nine of them
this here's Nick
hi um and Tara has something to uh show
you a project she's actually been
working
on been working on my stuff she uh she
found this uh when where did you find
that anyway in my yard it was quite some
time ago I think diamond willow
and it's got the mushrooms and stuff on
it and I've shellacked it added a little
bling just things that mean something to
me a nice little walking stick
yeah yeah I'm not sure what I'm going to
do I've got some eagle feathers I might
add some eagle feathers and some rocks
like this rock I've been hauling around
for 3 weeks she thought she almost lost
that rock
yesterday so she was like where's my
rock like rocks and you know never yell
at your kids for collecting rocks just
you know have a bucket at the front door
at every house they visit and they can
that's where they leave them it's my
rock in my
pocket uh so yeah most of the miss the
mo the the understanding with cat owners
is that you need a litter box per cat
and an
extra there's no way I'm having that
many litters but I don't mind cleaning
daily because I already vacuum once a
day because I shed so uh yeah so we've
just got the two upstairs which Mark
will show you and then uh one
downstairs that get vacuum daily in
these little comfy spots for the cats to
yeah NYX you're silly they're beds
you're silly aren't you yes they're beds
they have lots of beds somebody
commented on this this was my first
crochet
attempt
so it I I like it it's pretty rustic
looking it's a
rabbit you know it's kind of you made
that what was that that was spring I
think it was yeah and it's made out of
our wool from our sheep and it's got its
little magic ball there with the birds
in
it are cleaning yeah but the uh yeah
he so the uh so the litter is here so we
use Uh Wood
Pellets so these are what no they're not
treats oh the the treats haven't come
yet Toby Toby likes to sneak over here
and and have a snack it's gross no you
stay out of it so these are uh our wood
pellets that you would you would uh put
in your wood burning stove a pellet
stove and nothing expensive nice rubber
made containers because they're higher
so Toby can't get in easy yeah uh we
have the Pea pad uh there are some cats
that like to uh Mo I most of the time I
think it's the females that pee on uh
furniture or piles or clothes or whatnot
the Pea pad eliminates that so and it's
a
Nara that uh there she prefers the
pead to the uh to the litter box she'll
poop in them but she won't pee in them
yeah for some strange reason so she was
peeing on the couch and every regular
cleaning a coach I got I even invested
in one of those little coach like fabric
cleaners like carpet
cleaners and uh but I was like he you
know what every time I leave a towel out
she pees on it so I'm like well let's
position it let's just give her a towel
yeah so this is the inside of a kennel
dog kennel just in case the the Pee goes
off the towel um and then I change the
towel daily and the litters get done
every second day or when needed but uh
and then the food station
yeah so NYX is going to demonstrate that
okay here we go it's full enough usually
when it's it's empty she throws it off
the counter yeah yeah she'll knock the
whole container off and we'll hear it
hit the floor and it's like uh I guess
not enough in there we had some uh cat
trees that were uh made by a friend and
uh they're very they're real wood and uh
they work well here because the cats
like the windows Yep and refinishing
Tera refinished this and all the chairs
yeah so this is a codoy type material
and we found that the cats they uh they
can't damage it yeah they scratch them
all the time it is imp impious to cat
damage so if you have cats that are
destroying some fabric on your chairs um
get some corduroy material and they
don't knock like I I have to put my
teddy bears up high and wool up high but
you know for they don't knock stuff
down yeah everybody's up top there
overseeing and
watching this is the this this is my
seeds have you've shown my seeds yeah
you've shown my seeds before this is my
seeds area and then my Apothecary that I
harvest stuff from the yard stuff from
the garden yeah yeah so dry it um and
harvest and dry
itel fa so that is it for this video I
hope you enjoyed it only 10 more days
until Christmas so that's exciting
because Spring's on the way because
Spring's on the way and the days are
starting to get shorter after the or
long longer after the 21st so ter is
always excited about that so anyway
wishing you all the best in the coming
week and hope to see you next time take
care bye
