Hello and welcome to Korean Thought Simple. Today, we'll talk about how to tell time in Korean.
If you want to express time in Korean, you will need to know how to count Sino and Native numbers.
If you haven't seen my numbers video yet, I highly recommend you check it out.
Let's start off with pronouncing Sino-Korean numbers. A few Sino-Korean numbers are pronounced
differently when referring to time. Native Korean numbers are not affected and are still pronounced
the way they should. The table to the left shows how you would normally pronounce Sino-Korean
numbers and the table to the right shows how you would pronounce them when referring to time.
Let's go over the pronunciations. We have
1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 4 o'clock, 5 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 7 o'clock, 8 o'clock, 9 o'clock,
10 o'clock, 11 o'clock, and 12 o'clock. Let's go over a few basic vocabularies.
시 means hour, 분 means minute, 오전 means a.m., and 오후 means p.m. If you want to say
9.36 a.m., it would be 오전 9시 36분. Let's go over another example. If you want to say 6.39
p.m., it would be 오후 6시 39분. Let's apply what we've learned. The top row refers to time in
a.m. and the bottom row refers to time in p.m. You will be provided with 10 seconds per time to guess
how to say them in Korean and we'll start from the top row. Are you ready? Okay, let's go.
The answer is 오전 1시 50분. The answer is 오전 4시 55분. The answer is 오전 10시 35분.
The answer is 오후 8시 15분. The answer is 오후 12시 35분. The answer is
오후 9시 20분. Congratulations! You made it past the interactive course.
