omg..... did i... actually finish series?? 📚 2024 series review

Hello friends it's time for the start of our end of year content I'm so excited it's time for all the end of year videos worst books year best books of year book awards and the first kind of end OFW video I always do is a series review seeing how I've done in terms of finishing series since that is always a focus of mine because I'm not good at it I am great at starting the first book of a series and never continuing I'm not good at at finishing Series so I always have a series Centric goal and I always like to check in with you guys and talk about my Series stats then talk about some of the best series I finished made progress in series I want to start or series I want to finish next year and just kind of have a little review of my Series so shall we just get into it we'll have a little look at my series spreadsheet as well I'm ready well you said that was some determination I'm ready okay whenever you're ready I'm ready okay I'm ready whenever you're ready okie dokie so if you don't know basically every single year I have a reading goal to have a net negative in terms of Series so however many series I start in a year I want to be minus one I say that's not sustainable forever and to be honest the goal is really to keep me accountable it's there in the back of my mind like I'm not like if I stop there on 40 and I end it on 41 like that's still good for me considering how I used to be I used to be starting 20 series a year and finishing two so really it's just to keep me on the right kind of habit in starting not too many series and trying to finish or make progress in some so at the start of the year I had 34 currently reading series I now have 34 currently reading series but listen you're going to see the stats it's not for lack of me trying there's at least three Series where I believed I read a standalone and then they've got sequels that have come out we've got and two of them I forgot to add they I think they came out at the end of last year and I've only just added them now the house of and sea somewhere beyond the sea the prequel came out the made by Pros when I read that I thought that was a standalone we've now got two more books in that series and moon of the crusted snow by will be R when I read that I thought it was a standalone and now we've got a sequel so like there's there's some on here that were not on here at the start those three definitely were not in that 34 at the start of the year and I've added them in however we're going to have a proper look at the spreadsheet in a second but I think there's two series I definitely don't want to continue they're on my TBR so shall we just have a look at them quickly I wasn't expecting that at all and move them because the 34 is not the truth I think I'm ready to let these series go so so the first series is elements of cadence by Rebecca Ross the first is a river Enchanted I didn't love this I think I give it 3.5 and the more I think about it do I want to continue a series with a first book is the 3.5 not really and I don't really remember what happened I I I remember having some really really cool elements really interesting writing style really interesting characters really interesting magic system it's all based on music but I just don't think I want to continue that I don't think I want to continue that I think we can let it go so let's go put that in dnf series I've got a lot of as you can see dnf Series this year the other one is where is she where is she daughter of smok and Bone by Lany Taylor I read I mean listen look at all these series I've already read the first book but anyways um I read the first one at the start of what year is this 2021 we're almost in 2025 it's time to let that go I really need to like make progress in series next year maybe my series goal next year will be making progress in series not necessarily finishing series I think that could be interesting anyways I'm letting go of daughter's Mak bone even though I own books two and three that's really really painful to me I just been thinking about letting go of this series quite on what has been stopping me is the fact that I own these ones but I'm just not interested if I'm honest with myself and truthful with myself I'm not interested so there we have it we now actually have 32 ongoing series uh which feels great a net negative of two when I've like I said that we've added at least three series that I didn't have it that I haven't started this year but I didn't have one here at the start of the year for those of you who don't know I don't count up to-date series as ongoing Series this is a change we made in this video last year that you guys have been pushing me to make for ages so if I'm up to a date in a series and I've read all there is to be read then it doesn't count so there are series I've started this year that um haven't added to my ongoing series amount but they will next year when the sequel comes out and I have to live that we still have murders will probably be two years till the next one comes out and like who knows when when getting another Alex turn five years time so that is that I do have to Cave at that but we'll have another look at the spreadsheet in a second and a bit greater detail let's finish with the rest of the stats so in terms of series that I started that are ongoing I've only started three I've only started three Series this year that I'm not up to date with in terms of total I've started eight series so a five series I started this year where either there's only one book out or like um the mimicking of known successes I read the second book in that this year as well so I got caught up in that so yeah I only signed eight Series this year guys eight series and only three are ongoing which is crazy I finished six series which is pretty good I had to read multiple books and a few of them to finish them and I made progress in another 10 on top of that another 10 series that might be that's not something I've tracked every year maybe I could next year but I think that's probably the most I've ever made progress in series ever in a year which I'm very proud of I am so proud of her I could cry okay let's have a proper look at the spreadsheet now oh I think Trudy devious as well was not on my series to finish at the start of the year because I'd marked this as like a standalone Trilogy which isn't really the case someone told me that once I said okay and that these were like companion books I don't think that's the case so that wasn't on there as well so there's at least four that weren't on here at the start of the year but answer is I've started this year but they've just had to been added so anyways here we go I really need to finish this series we're going to talk about the top two series I want to make sure I finish next year and I haven't added it cuz I added it last year and then didn't read it I even was supposed to read escaping from UD in December last year and I didn't I did are you not ashamed of yourself are you not embarassed this is really embarrassing yeah I really want to finish that cuz that's not the oldest one on here um but we've got some other one I'm going to read murder on the express I've already read murder on the express but I'm going to be reading that in January for um my Patron book club and I I'm really upset that I haven't read a lot of Agatha this year the Sinclair's mystery as well I I made progress in this year I would really like to finish that off soon I was hoping to maybe finish it this year it was on the cards I would love to finish that soon just because it's like I feel like it's easy just two middle grade books Let's get it done lady Hard Castle guys I'm getting close to being up to date I've only got two left there'll be another one published next year at least so like we will there'll probably be three to get up to date but I'm getting dangerously up to date and I read like probably two to three a year that year I only read one but other years I've read two to three a year so that I'm actually not happy about that I don't want to be up today lady Hard Castle the Big Stretch here of ones that I've only read the first book I should probably try and I think maybe next year maybe it'll be make progress in series is my goal rather than finish series Dar live at Katie Watson for like a series that doesn't have huge r ratings I mean I love it she's publishing books baby she she's published two this year this is like a little Nolla this isn't a book well not even noela like short story but um she publishes books makes some progress in vny Donovan red queen bee and then um yeah these are the three series that I started this year that are ongoing everyone in my family has killed someone pride in premeditation and Wolf Hall I I I've had to predict funny enough I think this one will be here for quite a while of w I think I think it might take me a while to finish that series that's one I probably don't want to rush to finish but I do want to continue in the series it's been 84 years up Tod dat series here we go so I got up to date with heart stoer this year these are two of the series I started this year where only the first book had come out I got up to date with where were children's series I pretty much always say up to date with that every year Singing Hills cycle I read three to get up to date in the series which I think is quite iconic if I do say so myself I read three sing Hill cycle this year and I read like I said both the mimicking of known successes and the imposition of unnecessary obstacles and then a quick overview of the series I finished this year I finished the before the coffee gets cold series there is more books coming out in this series but I've just decided I only wanted to read the first four so it's finished for me the Forgotten women series was a non-fiction series that I finished that I like absolutely love I'll just run through this cuz I'm going to talk about some of these in a sec but we've got bookshops and Bone we've got the sworn shoulder this is one that might be ongoing but I decided did I finish these two legends and lattes and Rachel crra um I don't know if there's going to be more if there's more I will read them but for now there's no news so I've put them in in finished and the broken Earth Trilogy by NK jerson and a quick overview like I said of all the books this year that I've read that were first in the series and I've said no thank you not continuing and before we get into some um categories that came from questions you guys asked me last year let's look at this the year on-ear stats so in terms of series started in 2019 this is how far back my tracking goes I started 11 then I get out of control and 2020 I started 19 and in 2021 I started 20 and then 2022 was when I was like okay I need to get a handle on this 2022 I started 10 2023 I started 11 and 2024 I started eight so this is the least amount of series I've ever started in a year since tracking began since records began yeah I really haven't started a lot this year I feel like I've really so I haven't like finished a ton necessarily but I really tried to restrain myself from starting something which you know this is actually I think the first year ever I mean granted I did just dnf2 series but also there were like like I said four that weren't on my on my list at the start of the Year this is the first year I've ever had a net negative in series this is the first year I've actually done it I've never actually done it that is not correct series finished in 2019 I finished three in 2020 I finished four in 2021 I finished four so this is what I'm saying in 2021 I started 20 series and finished four I was a problem and then in 2022 was when I made my really big push to finish as many series I could I finished 15 in 2023 I finished eight and this year I finished six so again I didn't finish a ton this year but I also didn't start a ton so it's okay in terms of the genres of the series I finished this year one was Thriller three were fantasy one was non-fiction and one was horror and then in terms of this is interesting in terms of the genres of the series that are ongoing still I think I also included the stats of the series up to date as well so this is ongoing series and up to date series The genres I have three historical 16 fantasy 17 mystery four sci-fi one romance one horror and one contemporary so this is the first time that mystery outranks fantasy fantasy has always been about 50% of my ongoing series and now there's more mystery and that makes me happy I think I'm I was reading too many long fantasy series and I don't think I need that many I think I like having a few special fantasy series that I love versus like reading so many I don't think I'm that big of a fantasy reader I think I used to read a lot more fantasy I think I'm well fantasy might is fantasy still my most read genre we'll talk about this in the stats at the end of the year but is fantasy still my most read genre no it's not well it's very close I've read 24 fantasy this year and I've read 26 mystery so it's very close but yeah I'm really happy that I've Diversified my genres of my series even more okay let's get get into some little then fun categories from questions that you guys asked me last year let's start with the top three series that I finished first probably my favorite is book shops and bone dust by Travis B my brother uh is Bored Legends and Latte so he's got that somewhere but book b d was a five star me this is a prequel to Legend and lates where our main character Viv gets injured in her like I never know what the right word is for what Viv does she's a mercenary part of a renowned mercenary company which she based fights she's a fighter I'm just here to fight uhoh and she gets injured and has to kind of rest in this very small Seaside town and there's a Bookshop there and it becomes a huge part of her life and I just love Travis B I love you I might be in love I just love Travis B's writing I have tried a lot of cozy fantasy and just no one for me does it like he does it the way he writes is very similar to how Richard Osman makes me feel very different styles of writing very different genres but they both just make me feel happy inside I've connected the two dots didn't connect [ __ ] but I've connected them and I don't like reading a lot of happy books I'm not like I don't want to read romance I don't want to read cute contemporaries but I like books that make me feel warm and happy inside and that's what that's what Travis bowry does I think any future bookie publishes will be in this world but not necessarily following Viv so I probably only count it as a series if we're following one of the main like Viv probably from this and legends and lates if it's just in the world I don't think I will count it as a series but anyways and then another series that I'm unsure if it's finished or not and like I think she's probably this author is probably writing these books like every 3 four years right so I'm marking it as finished for now if another one comes out like I said I will read it but the Rachel crra series the first one is night swim and I read dark Corners this year I really love this it's like a thriller mystery podcaster um this one is about a popular influencer who vanishes and it's just fun she's just fun fun fun fun fun fun I had a few issues with the plot of this one but I think Megan Golding is one of my favorite like mystery thriller authors in terms of writing I really enjoy her writing I find it so easy to read I think there's some interesting character Dynamics in this one I really enjoyed this one and then I honest I didn't love a lot of series that I finished this year but I do just want to say the most gratifying series to finish was the broken Earth Trilogy although I didn't love the the second and my opinion is just read the fifth season that might be controversial I love the fifth season I didn't love these two but this is such an intimidating series to me in terms of like author quality that I just feel like a huge weight has been lifted having finished this series so I'm very very very glad cuz this is probably like the mo the most you know this was the hardest struggle to finish this is the one I was most surprised I finished so yeah I'm very proud of myself for finishing that one then usually I do top three series I want to finish next year but to be honest there's only two series on here that I'm like I definitely definitely definitely want to finish that the first is the Her Majesty's Royal coven series I've own well I've read her's raw coven and I've read read I've read queen bee which is a like companion noela but I haven't read the shadow cabinet and I believe human right wait let's check this because I feel like this could have been delayed I believe human rights is still scheduled to come out next year okay at the moment it's still scheduled to come out in July 2025 oh there's a cover as well so yeah I do have two books to read and how long is it going to be 384 pages okay that's not bad this one's chunky the shadow cabinet how long is this like 500 pages but I really really love this series it's witches in UK government that's like everything I ever wanted in the world I really love this series I loved queen bee queen bee was five stars for me I think her M dra coven was a 4.5 and I just love witches this is like one of my top top witchy witchy Series right now I love it so I really really want to finish this series and read human rights when it comes out hopefully next year I just feel like I've been burn human rights were supposed to come out this year but queen bee came out instead that's why I'm feeling hesitant but yes I'm so excited to see where the story goes in this one there's certain story lines with how her manes Roy COV ends that I'm very nervous for whether it will be resolved or not in this one but yes I definitely want to finish that series next year and I'm I'm I'm aiming high but I would really love to finish the first what is this one called is it the Faria Trilogy the first one the first Robin hob mini Trilogy and obviously this Robin hop universe is like a whole series together but I'm counting them as their individual like trilogies so the first one is Assassin's Apprentice I would love to read Royal assassin and what is the other one called I don't own it but I want to read Royal assassin and I want to I would like to finish the series this is like my push goal that's not happening all right assassin's Quest yeah I would really like to continue with this series because I really really loved Assassin's Apprentice I I think hob could be like a favorite fantasy author for me I mean that's like easily said because she's an iconic fantasy author but I think this could be like one of my special like I was saying before like f special fantasy fantasy fantasy I mean this is fantasy but it's like light fantasy it's urban fantasy but like heavy fantasy scary fantasy this is like what I would really I'd really like to push myself and read some Robin hop next year so yeah and then finally let's talk about three series that I really really want to start next year firstly I want to start Miss marel I feel like I waited long enough now that I'm a net negative I just I've always held off on starting this because obviously I'm reading the proo series and I'll be reading that forever I will be reading aaro for the rest of my life like that is going to be on there for so long there's so many books in that series and I am not rushing I'm taking my time with Agatha but I would like to start Miss marel I don't know if I'll start murder at the vicarage or I believe the Tuesday club murders which is is that a short story I think it might be is the first appearance of Miss marel so I'm not sure if I'll get my hands on that and start that maybe I'll read this one cuz this is like iconic murder at the vicarage I want to start reading Miss marel I feel like I've waited long enough I think Miss marel sounds like a very interesting detective from Agatha Christie from what I've heard it's more of a series than prro is there's more of like a character development and like a through line through the series but again this is pretty I mean how many Miss marel books are there I think quite a lot let's have a look shall we there's not as many as prro dear God 15 that's much more doer through than like I don't know 30 for proo I feel like it's double at least so yes I want to start Miss marel I want I I want to read more Agatha next year I haven't read a ton of Agatha this year just because I don't think the video is really allowed for it and I'd like to prioritize reading like five Agatha books six year at least then a graphic novel series that I want to start is law Olympus by Rachel SMI this is like a Greek gods graphic novel series following pany and it just looks so beautiful I love it and I love these like hard back volumes I think there's like eight volumes already which is a bit scary that's a bit intimidating this is like Saga I read one Saga a year and there's like 10 it's going to take me like 10 years to get through it but I would really like to start this one I've heard so many good things about La Olympus it looks very beautiful it looks emotional and I don't have I don't think I have any graphic novel series ongoing and I do like a good graphic novel series well I've got heartstopper but that will finish next year and then finally this book guys I have to make a confession I forgot to put this it's on my own shelf and good reads but I forgot to put this on all the books on my TBR video it's I think the one book that I forgot to put on there and it's because it wasn't in my room it was in the room next door with my dad's book collection and I would really like to start the final Empire or mistborn by Brandon Sanderson oh my God I want to get into my Brandon Sanderson era I love last year Lov love Lov Tres of would see I know it's a very different vibe but I feel it's time to start Brando Sando I believe it's I think I said earlier this year I was going to start Brandon Sanson and i' I've avoided it but I would like to begin because um yeah again this another big fantasy and I'm like I was just going oh I want to get rid of fantasy but I do think it's time to start Brando Sando I'm just so intrigued with this world and the love people have for this world and like how much people love his books and I really think after reading I mean I have read I didn't like Skyward his ya one but I loved tresy emaly I also like I'd like to read Yumi is it Yumi and the night painter one of other secret projects but my priority I think o this one's scary but I think I can do it starting Miss born I think it's time so there we have everyone that is my 2024 series review the first time ever I've got a net negative in terms of series can you believe it I can't believe wait did I get it in 2022 I really don't think I did hang on am I just chatting [ __ ] I could just be chatting [ __ ] hang on oh okay I may have had a net negative in terms of series from 2022 to 2023 I'm not sure sure I set a numbered goal that year which I didn't reach but I'm not sure but anyways this is the first time I've met okay at the very least it's the first time I've met my series goal in a year let's just say that it may be the first time had negative I don't know but it's the first time I've met my series goal in a year so I'm very very happy um let me know how your series reading has gone this year any series for my series spreadsheet when I ran through that that you think I should prioritize getting to next year cuz like I said I don't know if this is crazy but I kind of want to make
