se je pooie oste trover
large, qui ne vousist conter,
qu'eüst porc et buef et monton,
maslarz, faisanz et venoison,
grasses gelines et chapons
et bons fromages en glaon,
et la dame fust autresi
cortoise come li mariz
et tout jors feïst mon plesir
nuit et jor jusqu'au mien partir,
et li hostes n'en fust jalous,
ainz nos lessast sovent tout sous,
ne seroie pas envioux
de chevauchier toz boous

Quando vedo l'Inverno tornare, allora vorrei prendere dimora. Se potessi trovare un ospite generoso che non volesse stare troppo a contare i soldi, che avesse maiale, bue e montone, anatre, fagiano e cacciagione, galline grasse e capponi e buoni formaggi in canestri di vimini, e se la moglie fosse altrettanto cortese come il marito e facesse il mio piacere notte e giorno fino alla mia partenza, e l'ospite non fosse geloso - anzi ci lasciasse spesso tutti soli - non avrei nessuna voglia di cavalcare tutto fangoso e angosciato dietro a un principe malvagio.

When I see Winter returning, then I would like to stay indoor.
