So will the two presidents work together to get the hostages released from Hamas? Okay, let's get into it. The shock of President Biden's pardoning of his son Hunter continues. The topic was still hotly discussed on Monday. NBC reported that the decision to pardon Hunter was not a spur of the moment decision by President Biden. It was on his mind since June. NBC reported, the president has discussed pardoning his son with some of his closest aides at least since Hunter Biden's conviction in June, said two people with direct knowledge of the discussion about the matter. They said it was decided at the time that he would publicly say he would not pardon his son, even though doing so remained on the table. Republicans are naturally critical of this. Some of the Democrats tried to explain it away for Biden, but some did not agree with him. On Monday, Senator Michael Bennett, a Democrat of Colorado, ruled on X. President Biden's decision put personal interest ahead of duty and further erodes American's faith that the justice system is fair and equal to all. Some analysts believe that President Biden's pardoning of his own son paves the way for a second term for President Trump. Kerry Urban, a Fox News legal editor, thinks it's a good idea for President Trump to smoothly pardon the people involved in January 6. But I have to say, Brian, my takeaway from all of this is that this is actually fantastic, politically speaking, for Donald Trump. Joe Biden has lowered the bar so much here in offering this pardon to Hunter Biden that I think Donald Trump will be able to pardon a whole host of people, including January six without necessarily the pushback he would have received otherwise. Of course, the people in the media will complain because they always do. But like, what can they point to at this point? So you have that, you know, maybe you could even explore a preemptive pardon for himself. And President Biden agrees with President Trump's criticism of the Justice Department. At the end of his statement, President Biden said, I believe in the justice system. But as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics have infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice. Before this sentence, he wrote, here's the truth. That is, President Biden is telling Americans that it is a fact that raw politics leads to miscarriages of justice. Over the past few years, supporters of President Trump have blamed miscarriages of justice for all the lawfare against President Trump. But Democrats may not believe it. Now that a Democratic president is saying the same thing, it's time for them to think about it. Ryan Williams, a longtime Republican strategist and communicator, told Fox News, Biden has endorsed this idea that the Department of Justice acts in a political way and he's thrown out long held precedent when it comes to pardons. He's blowing up an institution and procedures, which is what Democrats have long criticized Trump for. They don't have any moral authority to say that Trump is undermining institutions and changing long held procedures. That's what Joe Biden just did with this pardon. Joe Biden just pulled the ultimate move in overriding the DOJ, which of course, in the past, people would go crazy if Donald Trump had anything to say about what the Department of Justice was doing. So I personally think President Biden just made things a whole lot easier for Donald Trump going to Term 2. But the move by Biden may help President Trump as he works to push the nomination of Kash Patel as FBI director and Pam Bondi as Attorney General. A Republican who works on Capitol Hill told Fox News, I do think it makes it more likely that some of these more traditional Republican senators will be off enough to help Trump confirm some of his more controversial nominees. This blanket pardon covers not only Hunter Biden's convictions in the two Delaware and California cases, but also any other crimes against the United States committed or likely to be committed or in which he was involved between January 1, 2014 and December 1, 2024. And President Trump will not be able to revoke the pardons once he takes office. In addition, the comprehensive nature of the pardons means that the next Trump Justice Department will not be able to reopen the criminal investigations against Hunter Biden. Republican Senator Tom Cotton stated on X, Democrats can spare us the lectures about the rule of law when, say, President Trump nominates Pam Bondi and Kash Patel to clean up this corruption. But there is a popular belief that President Biden has actually been helping President Trump's campaign. Joe Rogan even said that President Biden must have voted for President Trump. Of course, we cannot confirm these speculations, but in practical terms, President Biden has certainly been helping President Trump lately. Perhaps as a traditional moderate Democrat, this is his way of apologizing to President Trump. Perhaps Biden doesn't like the crazy things that have happened in his name in the last four years. But it's not up to him now that he will soon be retiring and will no longer be involved in politics. He can finally do whatever he wants to within the confines of the law. Senator Joe Manchin thinks that since President Biden pardoned his son, he should also pardon President Trump. He told CNN, I am just saying, wipe them out. Why don't you go ahead and pardon Donald Trump for all his charges? It would have gone down a lot more balanced, if you will. The difference is Hunter Biden did actually break the law. But President Biden insists that his son was being selectively and unfairly prosecuted. Representative Greg Stanton, a Democrat from Arizona, wrote on X. This wasn't a politically motivated prosecution. Hunter committed felonies and was convicted by a jury of his peers. But President Trump has been selectively and unfairly prosecuted after announcing his 2024 White House bid. He was charged in all four cases, two federal and two states. Manchin said, the president has to be the president for the next four years fighting all these criminal cases and all this other stuff coming after him. Just clean that slate up. The prosecutors for special counsel David Weiss, the ones who prosecuted Hunter, opposed President Biden's decision to pardon Hunter. The prosecutors asked the judge who was overseeing Hunter's tax evasion case in California not to dismiss the case, but just to close the docket. The prosecutor wrote in a court filing on Monday. In total, 11 different federal judges appointed by six different presidents, including his father, considered and rejected the defendant's claims, including his claim for selective and vindictive prosecution. Weiss's office said that the grand jury's decision to charge Hunter should not be wiped away as if it never occurred. Weiss said in the filing, the government does not challenge that the defendant has been the recipient of an act of mercy. That does not mean that the grand jury's decision to charge him based on a finding of probable cause should be wiped away because the defendant falsely claimed that the charges were the result of some improper motive or selective prosecution. No court has agreed with the defendant on these baseless claims and his request to dismiss the indictment finds no support in the law. On Monday, Weiss also filed a request with the judge who presided over the gun case seeking to deny the motion to dismiss Hunter's indictment. The Israeli Defense Forces, the IDF, announced on social media on Monday that American-Israeli Captain Omer Neutral was killed in battle on October 7, 2023, and his body had been held hostage in Gaza ever since. Prior to the IDF's announcement, it was believed that Neutral was still alive and held hostage. The IDF said on Monday that Neutral served as a tank platoon commander in the Armored Corps 77th Battalion, 7th Brigade. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said in a statement that Neutral was killed in a heroic battle near Nir Oz. Nir Oz is one of the most terrorized neighborhoods by Hamas at the time, with a quarter of its residents killed or taken hostage, and Neutral's unit was one of the first to respond to Hamas' brutal actions. President Biden said in a statement on Monday that Omer was 21 years old when he was taken by Hamas. The statement reads, Less than a month ago, Omer's mother and father joined me at the White House to share the pain they've endured as they prayed for the safe return of their son, pain no parent should ever know. They told me how Omer's grandparents were Holocaust survivors and how their family's strength and resilience has been carried through the generations now. Ceasefire negotiations have almost collapsed, and Israeli military operations to defeat Hamas continue. President Biden vowed to continue his efforts to bring the remaining hostages home. Biden said, During this dark hour as our nation joins Omer's parents, brother and family in grieving this tragic loss, we pray to find strength and resilience. And to all the families of those still held hostage, we see you, we are with you, and I will not stop working to bring your loved ones back home where they belong. Many hope that even if the Biden administration is unable to secure the release of the hostages before leaving office, the incoming Trump administration may bring a turnaround and secure the release of the hostages. Ornan Nutra, the mother of Omer Nutra, said, We have two presidents. We're calling on them to work together. The hostages don't have time to wait until Inauguration Day. Ronan Nutra, the father of Omer Nutra, said, We are calling on President Trump to seize the moment and reach what we are calling a Reagan moment. In the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis, shortly after President Ronald Reagan was sworn in on January 20, 1981, Tehran released the remaining Americans who had been taken hostage. President Trump reiterated a promise on Monday to punish Hamas severely if it does not release all of the hostages by the time he is inaugurated on January 20, 2025. President Trump wrote, Everybody is talking about the hostages who are being held so violently, inhumanely, and against the will of the entire world in the Middle East. But it's all talk and no action. Please let this truth serve to represent that if the hostages are not released prior to January 20, 2025, the date that I proudly assume office as President of the United States, there will be all hell to pay in the Middle East and for those in charge who perpetrated these atrocities against humanity, those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied history of the United States of America. Sources say President Donald Trump made a surprising suggestion during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week. On Friday, Trudeau flew urgently to Mar-a-Lago to meet with President Trump after President Trump threatened sweeping tariffs on Canadian products. The two countries discussed tariffs, border security, and the trade deficit, among other topics. But according to two people involved in the conversation, President Trump, while friendly and welcoming during the talks, was very direct when it came to his demands on Canada. President Trump told Trudeau that Canada is failing on the U.S. border by allowing large numbers of drugs and illegal immigrants to cross the border, including those from more than 70 countries. President Trump became more agitated when the conversation turned to the U.S. trade deficit with Canada. President Trump said that the U.S. trade deficit with Canada is more than $100 billion. If Canada can't fix its border problems and trade deficit, he will impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian goods on his first day in office. Trudeau responded to President Trump by saying that he can't implement the tariff because it would completely destroy Canada's economy. Then President Trump asked, so your country can't survive unless it's ripping off the U.S. to the tune of $100 billion? Then he suggested to Trudeau that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States, which caused Trudeau and others to laugh nervously. But he continued, telling Trudeau that Prime Minister is a better title, though he could still be a governor of the 51st state. Someone on site interjected to remind President Trump that Canada would be a very liberal state, which prompted more laughter. President Trump then suggested that Canada could probably be split into two states, a conservative state and a liberal state. While sources say the conversation generated a lot of laughter, President Trump conveyed his clear message that he expects to see change by January 20th. A variety of other topics were discussed during the nearly three-hour meeting. After the meeting, Canadian participants described the dinner as very friendly and very positive, but they did not mention the talk of becoming the 51st state. Then today, just to keep the drama going, President Trump posted on True Social an image of himself standing on a mountain with the caption, Oh Canada. South Korean President Jung Suk-yol declared martial law on Tuesday. In an unannounced late-night TV talk, Yol said that the decision was made in order to remove pro-North Korean forces within the country and to protect national security. Yol mentioned that Congress had proposed the impeachment of 22 government officials from the current administration, and it is still pushing for the impeachment of 10 more. This is not only unprecedented in any country in the world, but also unprecedented since the founding of Korea. He had no choice but to resort to martial law. Tuesday's declaration is the first time that martial law has been invoked in South Korea since 1980. The announcement was issued by the Martial Law Command. It included six articles prohibiting the activities of the parliament, local councils and political parties, as well as political activities such as assemblies and demonstrations. However, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, the opposition party in South Korea, said that it was unconstitutional to declare martial law hours later. The South Korean parliament voted 190-0 to lift the declaration. The total number of seats in the National Assembly of Korea is 300.
